Wish I had been listening to the Breeders in the 90s. My musical tastes were strictly Top 40 back then, but now as a 55 year-old I’m really digging them. Better late than never I guess!
I love how Kim rasps summer is rrreeeady like an unfiltered Marlborough being flicked recklessly out of a car window into the snow. Her voice is so real.
Summer is rreeeaaaddy - and then the whole world stopped. I don't mean, it relaxed...I do not mean, we all took a break. I mean - everything...stopped.
saw that tour in nyc at the ny coliseum-thought the breeders were even better live than nirvana-great double bill-still have the tee shirt-and its been worn alot
I don't remember where I saw it (maybe a t shirt or sticker), but it said "Pixies without Kim. No Deal". Listening to her away from Pixies you realize how important she was to their sound. Her post Pixies work is amazing.
Just pure rock. The mix is on point and the production is honest. This is how it works best. No gloss. Rough around the edges. No bullshit. Brings back great memories.
I agree! The Breeders do this- they cut many versions of the same song and their videos often use a different version than on the album. This version of saints can be found on an EP titled “All Virgos Are Mad”. It’s one of my go-to summer tunes.
Other bands cut different takes of the same songs, but the breeders seem to do it a lot. I’m fairly sure the video to “Divine Hammer” uses a different take than the one heard on the album.
@@mcusertonyes this is something that makes fans crazy. There are versions of things that have literally only been video or radio, promo cuts and that version decades later still can’t be had without eBay or digitally ripping it. We want a real version damn it. Or if it is released you’ll be chasing rare imports, singles or eps that can be like over $300 for one song. It’s really annoying.

I just realized that I am in love with Kim Deal. I always have been since the moment I first listened to "Surfer Rosa", but I forgot over the last 25 years. Seeing this video and remembering this song for the first time since it's heyday reminded me.
Looking through old CDs, I found the single of "Saints" includes demo versions of New Year and Cannonball, probably one of the rarest CDs in my collection
This version kicks ass! And that video!... I pretty much get palpitations at how fucking cool All 4 of them are in it. Oh Kim Deal. My crush level is almost a real life distraction sometimes 😮
I remember this period at the time I was younger and still had more contact with the Pixies (Especially the Surfer Rosa) and only afterwards I went to meet the Breeders and listened to the Last Splash (For me one of the best Breeders records). Those were good times and we were happy in our youth and we didn't know how good that time was, now we have the covid pandemic and we don't know what will happen. Good luck to the world that will need it and I don't know if the world will get out of this. Man has become a lethal virus for this world and now we suffer the consequences. Greetings from Brazil
I remember being grounded in the winter of 94 or something. Then getting my moms tapes cause I was tired of listening to my same ol stuff. Then I ran across this and glad I did. This album put on a warm blanket of daydreams. The youthful nostalgia comes back when I play it. Who would've know that being grounded would actually turn into a cherished moment to remember.
Love this video!!! Damn it takes me back to a time when rock radio was pumping out real and good, and real good stuff! I'mma have to get my copy of "Last Splash" out and listen to it, but I swear this version is a different mix than the one on the album. Kim's voice and Kelley's guitar sounds a lot different here...maybe my mind (and age) are playing tricks on me.
tyvek05 You realize people were saying the same thing at the nadir of the hair metal thing, right? In some time periods, better music is just more popular. Of course there's still good music. But good luck finding people to hang out with who actually like it.
I'm addicted to the whole CD. This is just one of the many amazing songs on this CD. It's timeless too. I bought this album in, I think, 1994, for Cannonball when I heard it on MTV. This is when MTV still played music.
The way she drags these vocals along...perfect
Exactly! Makes the song so much fun
Wish I had been listening to the Breeders in the 90s. My musical tastes were strictly Top 40 back then, but now as a 55 year-old I’m really digging them. Better late than never I guess!
Have you discovered the Pixies yet? Also, Belly was formed by Tanya Donelly from the Breeders. You should give them a spin as well.
They're still around - put out an album in 2018 that's nearly as good as "Last Splash" and hopefully will follow that up in the early 2020s.
If you stick to Top 40, only, you will always be missing out!
Never too late.
You never watched 120 Minutes/ Alternative Nation then?? Those were great times…when you could go to MTV to discover music!!
Forgot about this song, until I heard it played on the Hulu show “The Bear”. Her voice always brings back great teenage memories for me.
Just came here also after watching Episode 2 of “The Bear.”
Knew the song from way back when it first came out.
Was glad for the reminder. 👍🏽
❤

Lidia Aniela she says sober is ready when you are alternating with summer is ready when you are in the backing vocals

My ex made out with KD in Tijuana.... yea, I'm still jealous to this day. 😣😒
I LOVE Kim's delivery. The phrasing...
She's truly one of a kind 😊
Last Splash is a ridiculously brilliant record. This version of Saints is so bloody amazing :)
Saw them live with Nirvana in '93.best day of my entire life.

I really went to see Nirvana, but I love The Breeders too!
Kim Deal is or was soooo hot to me back then.
Sure was! Sigh....

Genius and somehow sums up the early 90’s..Which was the best part of the 90’s..
Underappreciated band. Kim Deal should make every Top 10 Best Female Rockers of All Time list.
She should be on there twice:
Once with The Breeders
Once with The Pixies
Should make any top ten rockers list… her consistency is unreal

Great fricking comment.
I love reading your description of her voice ! She is also very beautiful! Peace Christo 🛸👽🐕🎶☮️
Dude you just made my day so much better! See ya!
Kim for ever the most coolest woman on rock. Greatest and unique voice. Greatest albums. Om stage is so freaking cool.... ♥
I'm 59 and a drummer of 46 yrs. I loved when Cannonball came out 30 yrs ago. Then I found this gem and others. Ah, discovery!!
They are really superb!
The most underrated band of the 90's. I love them...
No. The Sundays and Saint Etienne more so.

check out the edge to the guitar riffs starting at 2:10. So powerful. Way better version than the album
@@rick5063 I had no idea they did that but it's pretty cool. Is that common? To cut significantly different versions of a song, I mean.

This album is one of the few from that era, that still gets major play in my house/car. So fucking good
Best song on one of the best albums of the 90s. Great stuff.
I’m still in love with the Deal sisters. 30 years later and I still get tingles watching this. So many good memories 😍
Damn it! Me to!!!
Wow, this hits WAY harder than the Last Splash version. Why didn't they put this on the 30th anniversary release!?!
Ready when you are...what a great song and vocal performance...
Looking through old CDs, I found the single of "Saints" includes demo versions of New Year and Cannonball, probably one of the rarest CDs in my collection
I knew Canonball like everyone growing up in the nineties, but today i've discovered an amazing band!!!!
Coolest band of the 90's.

Best version by a mile!
Produced by J Mascis - that explains why it's the best song on the album
This brings me back to my youth. I remember being 17 ,listening to them diehl sisters and riding the zipper!
Just realised that the first four notes of the guitar lick are "When the Saints Go Marching In".
i was thinking a hard days night
You may? be on to something there.
Yep, hence the song’s title.
