The Sky Was Flashing Like Lightning - Northern Lights - April 23, 2023

Last night's Northern Lights display was like no other. For about 20 minutes the sky was flashing like a high-intensity lightning storm.
This video is in 2 parts. Part 1 shows the Northern Lights as seen through time lapse photography. Long exposure time lapse is great for bringing out the colors in a Northern Light Display but doesn't project the rapid pulses and flashes that sometimes can occur. Part 2 shows the flashes that were occurring during last night's display by showing them in real time video. Simply an amazing night!

Looks like a nebula. I've never seen them pulse like that before. I've seen the ribbons. Camera does a great job. Thanks Alan.

I saw northern lights flash. It was like brightest green light covering the whole sky. Experienced that in rural Ontario (highway towards Montreal). It happened twice. Both times, the sky was all green which remained like that for upto 5 seconds.

Beautiful footage! Welcome to solar max. (OK, the peak isn't until 2025-ish, but the activity is pretty high right now.) I'm hoping to see some of this the next trip up to MN.
