In the 1960s/1970s I played in a family country-music family band. My sister was on drums, brothers were on lead and bass guitar, my mom and dad sang, and I was on the keyboards. We all sang together though and played at least every weekend in every honky tonk and bar in Alaska. This song was one the audience's favorite! My sister on drums sang as Gitarzan's girlfriend and each of us had our parts too. Another one we performed was 'Freddy Feel and His Funky Little Five-Piece Band." My buddy and I were concert promoters back in the 80's. We once booked Ray for a gig in Kissimmee at the Osceola rodeo arena, in Florida. We're both Black, but I took on the persona of "Buck Carson". Since my partner's name was on the paperwork, he could only play his role without the "country" name. But "Buck", was a University of Houston "Soil Science" major. We had the cowboy hats, heavy Texas, accents and everything, even rented two horses. When we went to sign the final deal with Ray, just before the concert, he and his band didn't know what to make of these two 20 something Black Cowboys who loved country music and rode around arena on horseback. I STILL have the visual of how Ray looked us up and down in our cowboy outfits. It was and still is hilarious.... When he took and break, I think he thought it would be funny to introduce us as the promoters of his "sold-out" concert. When we rode in on horses and the crowd saw us, they went SILENT!!!! It was drizzling rain and a little cool for Florida, but to his credit, Ray put on a helluva show and didn't flinch. I must say that he's a true professional, in every sense of the word and a consummate showman. Wonder does Ray remember ole' Buck Carson after all these years? LOL
