Mate, you are one of the strongest guys I know. It takes a greater strength to know when to change the plan than to follow the crazy brain and get in to trouble. Congrats on making it that far. The mountains will still be there next year, for the next adventure. Keep up the great work!
Super video, and a brilliant attitude throughout. :-)) A small niggle / suggestion. In Scotland, as in many other wild places, you should 'leave absolutely no trace' of your presence. That means, for example, not lighting fires on grass - as that would leave a scorch mark (and damage the flora). Light your fire right beside the river on a load of stones and there'll be far less damage to anything. Keep camping though, and keep enjoying your super adventures.
Thank you! Agree re leave no trace! The firepit was already there and established so thought it would be best to use that instead of damage a new area.. in hindsight I could've done better
Totally the right decision! Midges are a nightmare… I can’t do Scotland in midge season as I react so badly to them. And the mountains will always be there! It’s a wise man that lives to fight another day. Your videos get better and better. It’s refreshing to see someone as honest, humble and strong as you making videos that aren’t “bought to you by this weeks sponsor (insert name of crap overpriced gear de jour!)” And I don’t think someone who’s canoed the Yukon can ever be accused of being weak!
Another great adventure Eze. Turning back when things turn to crap mentally, physically or due to conditions is not failure. It is the smartest choice. Keep up the adventures Eze, we really enjoy watching them.
Really enjoyed this video man. Stumbled upon your channel some time ago and kinda binged a lot of videos haha. What I really apreciate is that you are like the ‘normal hiker’ kinda man. No 1000 dollar tents, no crazy ass long distances. Just a normal man, enjoying some time off in nature, doing some adventures. Looking forward to next trips! All the best, Sam.

Another awesome adventure that’s well captured and documented! Something I always like is saying the word “pivot” (in the classic friends sofa scene voice of course) whenever an adventure doesn’t go to plan I remind myself to pivot and use what I have and go in the new direction with the same focus and intent as the original plan. Also great addition of the new mic set up, adds some nice voiceovers.
PIVOTTTT.... PIVOTTTT!!!! LOL!!! Gotta love Ross. Totally agree man!!! I was a little disheartened but once I embraced the situation it turned out beautifully! Glad you noticed the mic set up, it's a bit of a faff but definitely makes better audio.
Wow - what a stunning and wild place! We can feel your pain regarding hiking mountainous places and underestimating the effort required when simply looking at a map and planning. It can be humbling and almost demoralising, but you handled it so well by limiting your trip to what you could do safely. Lovely shots as always, and we just love your enthusiasm and respect for the natural world 🙏
One of the most comforting videos to watch on the bed or the couch even though you're literally working your ass off to survive in the wilderness. Please keep them coming. Love it.
Every adventure you share gives me more fuel and desire to get back out to my next adventure! Next week I'm hiking and climbing Seneca Rocks West Virginia USA! Epic my friend!!

Another great video. In addition to your excellent videography, you just exude calmness and aren't afraid to show your mistakes. That's how we all learn. Now my term to be envious of the Scottish Highlands - on my bucket list. We booked to travel there in 2020 and then COVID ended that plan....maybe someday.
I love this adventure! You started with an ambitious plan and you listened to your body and switched it up accordingly. No shame! To me, you have a healthy mindset which will serve you well in all that you do. You still put yourself out there into an extraordinary and wild place that you were able to share with all of us watching and came out with a smile. It is the love of what you do that resonates.
Eze - thanks for taking me along on your adventure! I am an old man who lives above the clouds on a mountain in Vermont. This may help with the flies on your next adventure. It’s called White Mountain deet free insect repellent. While it helps with the flies, you will need something stronger for the mosquitoes. Blessings from one who lives in the now…Scott
Eze it's "The Great Wilderness" - truly a special place & a backpacker's dream. Try it again in May and give yourself a week to enjoy the peaks, if that is possible. Really enjoyed watching your adventure. I took a 360 degree pano from same place as your lovely opening shot. Thanks and All the best.
I'm an old man now but I've been into that area twice when I was younger and it is truly magnificent its also a very easy place to make a bad judgement but as you found its tough country to walk through. I think you made the right call.
Loved this...I live and guide in this area...and you really captured the beautiful landscape, and the hardship and slog that is off trail hiking. I thought this was a really honest account and all the better for it... I have turned back or amended many of my hikes...I am 60 years old...perhaps that's the reason I made it to this age😊 You are a good cinematographer, great story teller...and a guy who loves the outdoors... More power to you, keep on rolling...
Be in the now, very wise words. I think you are plenty strong. I have done some brutal backpacking trips in my day but over a longer period than some people. I didn't view myself as not strong, I just didn't want to be rushed through them. I went on these trips for a few reasons. A challenge is one but it didn't have to be on a timeline because I am also there to enjoy my surroundings and just be in my happy place. No shame in not being able to complete your route. It takes more strength to turn around than to keep going and risk injury. It was a very demanding route and just may take more time than you first planned. Thanks for sharing. As always, looking forward to your next adventure. :) :)
Beautiful Scotland, man I have to take a trip over there one day. Great adventure in the highlands wilderness, and an ambitious route. Sometimes you gotta make choices wich are for the better, and no shame in that. Rather do the right things than get into trouble. Great hike and thx for sharing. See you on the next Eze 😊
I call this adapting to the situation and give you big kudos 👏 👏! I have always been much better in my life when I adapt to my situation. Many people I know and love have remained in their comfort zone their whole life. I have travelled and lived in many places in the world and experienced things I would never have if I remained in that zone. I think 2 of my biggest gifts are from my parents, adaptability and perseverance! The scenery was spectacular and this video show your vulnerability, which made it special!!!!
Looks absolutely fantastic. I seriously admire your efforts, especially with such little food packed (maybe I over pack mine😆 ). Thank you for taking the time to get the extra shots and editing. The quadruple river crossing was most certainly worth it!! Thank you.
Thanks so much man!! Yeah I think it's so easy to overpack food!! I've never really ran out of food on any adventure yet, so even by my standards seems like I pack enough! Lol yeah well noticed on the river crossings, was there back and forth for a while lol

Geeze ! That was one hard challenge ! Those midges got you real bad , they know how to kill a party those nasty bugs 😠 . Glad you still kept your spirit high after the trip and learned from it . Go go go Eze !
What astunning adventure Eze. Definitely 'take the now'. Gotta live in the moment. You had some amazing weather up there. The midges can definitely be pretty ruthless up there and it looked like they were on form for ya 🙂👍. Cheers Eze, atb Rick n Billydog
well done for putting this out, don't feel bad, Scottish terrain has changed many of my planned routes in the past, you look like you beautiful weather. the new more natural narration was refreshing too.

Hope you give it a try and it helps!
If it always went smooth or to plan or you knew exactly what you were going to do and see. It wouldn't be a real adventure. It would mainly be a routine outing. These adventures takes courage to do , to go outside of your comfort zone and sometimes your ability is tested to the max. It's how we adapt and overcome the situation that makes the person an adventurer rather than a tourist. If it was easy .everyone would be doing it but they don't. So it takes the strong willed to take such tasks on and a even stronger willed person when to call it. Great video always bud .
That terrain is tougher than the Lake District, similar elevations but no real tracks/paths, muddy and soft ground, kills the legs very quickly. You’ll complete it next time around!
Eze,like you , I’ve learned through bitter experience that you ignore your gut feelings at your peril! You can’t always get the planning right and having the balls to realise that you got it wrong and need a rethink is a very important quality. Well done mate. The last thing any of us want is to get rescued by the SAR helicopter guys!!
I could have done that in a day 😁😁I don't think so. Would have taken me a week lol... Great video buddy with beautiful views and footage. That bog looked a challenge, but at least you got to spend some quality time with the Midges Hehe Well done mate you did great.
Glad you gave yourself a break, Eze. Imo, the natural world is and will always be more powerful than we are (saying this from Florida, where Hurricane Helene is humbling me right now). There's a certain peace for me that comes with this realization. (It also might make our life as humans on this planet more sustainable.)
I'm okay. Thanks. Humbled and safe. My house flooded. I love the water and also know of its power, so I left even before the evacuation orders. I appreciate your approach to risk. I've learned quite a bit from you.
@@sess845 Nature has a way of humbling us... I'm convinced that this experience will shape you for the MUCH better. Stronger, more resilient, more present. In the short term, I hope you recover your home asap and sending you much strength
you did great. if you get tired enough to worry about decisions and focus, head for home. doing anything in this terrain without a path, is about fifty times harder. i once spent 90 minutes crossing some land about 500m..... just outside glasgow, the cliffs at kilpatrick, an ancient boulder field covered with voids and long grass and brambles, felt lucky to get out alive.
Great decision to call it mucker.......takes alot of balls to not listen to your pride 💪 Having done the Fisher field a number of times they dont call it the last wilderness of the UK for nothing. There will always be another time and place ......its not going anywhere 🙂 Kit choice is a must for this area as a small mistake can lead to a big one.......If your every keen to do it again give me a shout.....I will join you for another wee adventure. I love my land that is Scotland and following your Scottish adventures fills me with great pride be a scot. 🥰
Well said my man!! Congrats on completing this circuit! couldn't agree more, a small kit mistake could be very big out there. I just imagined that area in adverse weather... damn, would be a hostile place to be for sure! Thanks so much for the message, definitely feeling like I want to give it another crack, with a day pack perhaps and base camp at the bottom.
That’s a serious route and with all due respect I’m not sure you were best prepared, breaking in new boots and food and kit wise. Respect for recognising and aborting, that’s a great skill to have and those fabulous hills will be there for your next attempt. God speed.
G'day from Melbourne Australia Eza watched your latest as usual scenery was fantastic only one criticism, as a seasoned adventurer you need to employ the 6 Ps I make reference to you sleeping bag on the adventure, no good trying to anticipate weather conditions even here im aware the Scotish mountain districts, spent a good time in and around Fort William while on exchange with the British Army all bases must be covered.... Regards Philip.
@EzeAdventurer yes balance is critical on any adventure where weight is an issue in this instance there's nothing wrong with over compensation, I think if you had bought a far better sleeping bag the adventure may have had a far different outcome, I do agree 👍 the ground covered was challenging and physically demanding, it's never straight forward best of luck to you and the channel for future success 🙌 I'll be looking to another adventure soon...... Philip.
I am amazed you were so resilient to the midges. I have seen grown men run and scream with less chasing them! I have always thought a cruel torture would be to strip your assailant naked and tie him to a tree, in a midge infested woods! If you haven't expierenced them, you have no idea how bad the little blood sucking insects can be. Maybe we didn't defeat the romans from invading, it could have been the Midges! Brave and sensible decision you made. You now know what to expect, you will be more expienced to conquer this hike next time.
Hi eze respect mate it’s a beautiful place but defo not easy going by any means even for the fittest, don’t feel you let yourself down your mind was telling you to back off and you made the right decision plus the midges would have eaten you alive anyways lol 😂 they are brutal man ,yeah hats off to you buddy respect your feelings always as although beautiful can be deadly also but glad you enjoyed it take care and all the very best to you and the family awesome video as always ❤️👌👍⛺️⛺️
Thanks is much Peter, really thoughtful and caring message, I appreciate it! Agree, beautiful but can be deadly... that's the undertone I was feeling !
I loved the scenery as always in your videos of Scotland, but did from the start worry about the size of your trip and time allowed. Unlike you I would not have walked around barefoot in the caca at the first campsite and I would have expected and prepared better for the midges. Note - they are smaller than mesh of most tents which are likely designed for mosquitoes. Well done for your honesty in admitting defeat and taking a safe route out. Your trip was still wonderful to watch even though shorter than planned.
Thanks so much!! Yeah was little bit of a stretch, especially when filming, things take a lot longer, packs are heavier, and more energy is expensed. The mesh in the tent stops the midges 100% :-)
"last wilderness" is a bit of a questionable title, given that you will hear that exact title also given to Knoydart, a peninsula further south on the west coast. In fact, neither of them are true wildernesses, as both were deforested at some point in their history and were more populated before the clearances. It is still a beautiful area nonetheless.
Yeah it's known as the "Last" or more accurately "The Great Wilderness". It's a little sad, but this is close to the wildest land we have left in the UK..
Haven't tried.. I think not worth it to carry for me. A simple headset and you're good to go. Perhaps on canoe trips it makes more sense where weight isn't so sensitive.?
There's a word to describe walking up hills and mountains in Scotland without paths and making your own way. It's called sprackling, and the verb is to sprackle. Sprackling in Scotland is very tough, the terrain is very tough. Your speed and the amount of distance you could cover is not a surprise to me, and is not an indication that you are not as tough or as strong as you thought you were. The Scottish terrain is far tougher than you thought it was, not you. Well done for a great adventure and making good decisions.

To do what you do is a sin. To be in such places "in a hurry ". Your time is the only thing you take with you when you leave earth. Slow down and take more in. Great video by the way.
You said if you couldn't get the fire going you would be out 500 calories... Can't you just mix could water rather than skipping the meal? I also can't believe you went in the woods...or wilderness... without a knife. Love the videos though, glad I came across then. I enjoy your way of doing stuff
Thanks so much! yeah I guess you could soak it cold if in a pinch. I'm ok without a knife in certain situations, but understand the rationale for always having one too
Hikers should know proper foot care: wear liner socks to prevent blisters - two pair of socks reduces the friction 100%. Use moleskin on hot spots. Always carry a dry pair of socks!
Hikers know blisters happen and arent always preventable I've not heard anyone that puts in serious miles suggest two pairs of socks, rather one quality pair. Interesting idea. I'll have to look into that..

Hope you give it a try and it helps!
Awesome gotta try that one day! Thanks!
Well said my man! Appreciate it and couldn't agree more!
Never let the destination dictate the journey, enjoy the experience and wonderful wilderness surroundings. Looked like you succeeded to me. 😀
Thanks so much Andrew for the positivity !!! Couldn't agree more :-) sending the same vibes back brother!
That terrain is tougher than the Lake District, similar elevations but no real tracks/paths, muddy and soft ground, kills the legs very quickly. You’ll complete it next time around!
Exactly!!! Thanks and yes, will have to have another crack!!
Agree thanks so much brother !!
Stunning as always, buddy
Thanks so much!!
I could have done that in a day 😁😁I don't think so. Would have taken me a week lol...
Great video buddy with beautiful views and footage. That bog looked a challenge, but at least you got to spend some quality time with the Midges Hehe
Well done mate you did great.
hahaha the midges were doing a good job of protecting the land! thanks for your support as always brother !
Hope you're safe from Helene... the sat images looked gnarly... and the damage.. stay safe
I'm okay.
In the short term, I hope you recover your home asap and sending you much strength
you did great. if you get tired enough to worry about decisions and focus, head for home. doing anything in this terrain without a path, is about fifty times harder. i once spent 90 minutes crossing some land about 500m..... just outside glasgow, the cliffs at kilpatrick, an ancient boulder field covered with voids and long grass and brambles, felt lucky to get out alive.
yeah 100% pathless terrain just makes it so much harder
Thanks so much for the message, definitely feeling like I want to give it another crack, with a day pack perhaps and base camp at the bottom.
good call eze , respect man
Thanks so much!
You are a true explorer my friend, btw what’s the soundtrack?
Thanks so much!! Most of the tracks on this video are by Bonnie Grace !
When’s the next one coming Eze?!
In the pipeline... editing with new software taking a long time!
Win some loose some 😎 i say its still a win mate 👍 back with the old Scottish midge lol 😆
definitely still a win !! Thanks man!
That’s a serious route and with all due respect I’m not sure you were best prepared, breaking in new boots and food and kit wise. Respect for recognising and aborting, that’s a great skill to have and those fabulous hills will be there for your next attempt. God speed.
I agree, I'm moving to the USA so had shipped my usual boots
G'day from Melbourne Australia Eza watched your latest as usual scenery was fantastic only one criticism, as a seasoned adventurer you need to employ the 6 Ps I make reference to you sleeping bag on the adventure, no good trying to anticipate weather conditions even here im aware the Scotish mountain districts, spent a good time in and around Fort William while on exchange with the British Army all bases must be covered....
Regards
Philip.
Thanks matey, I know you're right. It's just that with weight being so sensitive to the adventure, it was hard to find the balance
Philip.
I enjoy your videos, some how this one squeaked past me when it dropped. What were your thoughts prior this trip? Was lack of prep a factor?
I think I just underestimated the physical aspect of it and I packed too heavy... the filming gear doesn't help lol.
@@EzeAdventurer Ha, I bet. Was probably half of your weight.
Come back friend. 🏴
Amazig Eze!!!
eeeew Massimo thanks my man!!! Pizza would have made me feel better :-)
Maybe we didn't defeat the romans from invading, it could have been the
Midges!
Brave and sensible decision you made. You now know what to expect, you will be more expienced to conquer this hike next time.
Good synopsis of midges lol!! Thanks for the support!
Great video! Where are you from? I hear a bit of Spanish speaker in your accent
Yes I'm from the land of Messi - Argentina! Thank you!
@@EzeAdventurer yo tambien soy de argentina! Abrazo!
@@ian_menendez Abrazo che!!!
❤
Pick yourself up and go again eze, thanks for a great watch
Yes sir! Would love to give it another crack
Does the Thermacell product work for midges like it does for mosquitoes?
Not sure never tried !
You should try and get together with Good bloke outdoors he hikes all over , he's in France at the minute , good luck !!
Thanks he seems like a great bloke (no pun intended :-))!
Have you tried using a Thermacell for bugs?
Thanks so much!! Super insightful and appreciate the encouragement!!

Thanks but I don't believe in SEO for UA-cam. The algorithm is way smarter than that. Old techniques, obsolete.
Wow amazing trip. Really miss Scotland after i watch your beautiful video 😊😊😊
Thanks a lot! Scotland is so beautiful!
Just read your description , you have been through hell hey ? 😊 See you back in this section after the movie 🍿🍺
Lol wasn't that bad! just bit off more than I could chew perhaps
a day in the hills is never a bad day..... plans change
Well said, agreed!
To do what you do is a sin. To be in such places "in a hurry ". Your time is the only thing you take with you when you leave earth. Slow down and take more in. Great video by the way.
Agreed... but challenges sometimes get in the way lol
Kind of miss the bushcraft way of starting fires. Bugs are just as scary as bears in the bush if not more.
Next time will be ferrorod ! :-). Bugs way worse than bears agreed
Failure is not trying, there was no failure.
100%!!!
@@projectknifehand of course - that's why they make liner socks. It's an old school trick to prevent blisters.
This guy deserves more exposure. Dont forget to like and subscribe to nudge the YT algorithm.
Thanks os much!!!
The lesson is fight the hill not the bag.
yessir
Zzzzzzz you get it😮
lol
I would never go into the wild without a knife or an axe. Respect tho.
I understand that! Thanks !
I think you were not well prepared for this trip, better luck next time
Agreed
U did the right thing.so meny dont do the right thing and get cort out.
Mam made me stand out side and then hosed the literal shit off my whole body. Because it used to be up to my waste.
lol. good memory and story to tell at least
