Dont think they'd abandon their own device since it made so much money i still feel like there's a market for it but it does need to have the hardware to back it up
They arent abandoning the steam deck. They are in a position where they can have their own and still expand. It's the same thing Microsoft is doing with xbox and gamepass.
I wouldn't be surprised if they do a 7-10 year release gap between Steam Deck releases (with generational upgrades to the hardware akin to going from PS4 to PS5). Valve has been clear that they don't see a need to release incremental hardware improvements, and now SteamOS on other PC handhelds means that people can get the most advanced hardware available at any time while still getting the full Steam experience. There's no pressure for Valve to put out a product in order to keep SteamOS relevant in this space. So i don't see Valve releasing a new Steam Deck until after PS6 gets released.
Agreed but 4-5 that would put deck 2 at 2026-2027 which lines up for a next generation leap especially when we get a 256bit bus for lower end devices it won't be strix Halo low power that's still 128 but but it's successor if I had to guess will be the fat 256 bit bus we need to overcome bandwidth issues
The problem is that people can get the most advanced hardware (performance-wise), but for some "magical" reason, they're not getting the most comfortable hardware (ergonomically-wise), they're not getting the all-around polished design-wise hardware. Can I please get the Steam Deck with 1080p screen (preferably OLED) and Z1 Extreme? I can actually even simplify the request to just a "more performant Deck" and the response will be the same. Ally Extreme doesn't have track pads, and it's not comfortable to be held (grip cases only add weight and don't solve the problem completely). Ally X still doesn't have track pads, and it's still not comfortable to be held, though it's slightly better (same story with grips). LeGo also doesn't have track pads (the tiny one on the right is a joke), it's noticeably heavier and slightly bigger, image is noticeably but not drastically more sharp (saying this considering playable fps -- 1600p 8.8" is super sharp, of course, but Z1 Extreme can't handle it in AAA), and it shoots the sound somewhere up into the ceiling. New LeGo 2 (minor) may be comfortable, but it still doesn't have track pads and is less performant. New LeGo 2 (major) is all the same LeGo, just OLED and slightly/noticeably more performant (what might allow me to increase the resolution to get back to 1080p 7"-8" level of image sharpness). Zotac Zone is also not comfortable to be held, plus it shoots the sound down into the floor. Software is poor, but probably that can be somehow solved with the help of Steam OS. Just probably. MSI doesn't fit too for the similar reasons as the Ally (Claw 7) / Ally X (Claw 8). So, again, where can I get the more performant Deck? Why would I be interested in the most advanced hardware, if its every variant is a compromise? I want a more performant Steam Deck with 1080p screen. P.S. I own Steam Deck OLED, Ally Extreme (not X) and LeGo. CC: @SteamDeckGaming Update: And the answer is that everything we have (or are about to get) is an alternative to the Deck. Nothing released, announced or leaked is a Deck replacement. Nothing, unfortunately. Those are only alternatives. But I'm interested in the Deck replacement. The answer is primitive, I know, but this is the best one I have.
@@adravil_sunderland steam deck OLED is great I can still play most triple AAA games even Indiana Jones runs surprisingly okay. I don't want a steam deck 1.5 and I'm glad they're waiting for an actual next gen bump.
@@Spencerwalker21I'm sincerely happy for you, but that doesn't change anything for me. I've tried an 1080p 7" screen on the Ally Extreme and I want such a sharp image on the Deck (with the improved performance of the Z1 Extreme as well, of course; to run that 1080p resolution).
Should be a very interesting year for Valve next year with a new Index, the return of Steam Machines, and a new Steam Controller. There's also an outside chance of Steam Deck 2, although I'd say that's more likely for 2026.
Recently left my Steam Deck LCD for a legion go, I love the better screen and better processing power, But definitely look forward to seeing what Steam does with Linux since I'm running bazzite!
Don’t see a point with Value continuing with their own hardware if they’re just going to give it out to everyone. Really kind of a huge let down considering I just purchased the Oled version. Love the system but if Asus and Lenovo are going to have Steam with more powerful systems what’s the point of a deck 2.0?
Don't think valve will be end steam deck anytime soon or the future, just look at vr something many companies just end up giving up on, and valve have not even gave up on even if meta have market hold on it. It's always a need a valve hardware to keep the market in check with companies after pure profit even if they know they're going to hurting the market.
New valve index? They might no have given up on VR but they might have given up on VR hardware, I would like to be wrong and hope the same doesn’t happen with the steam deck.

It would be typical of Steam to let down their current user base. Let's face it, for the last few years we've been Guinea pigs. Accepting update/fix/beta/endless proton versions for stability, etc. So once they feel they've mastered everything they'll allow other manufacturers the OS. Then dump the SD like a lump of poo. Looking back on things and having mentioned what I already have, I would NEVER have bothered paying the price for one. Ffs! The fact it's constantly dropping in price should be a warning sign..
Will valve abandon the Deck or Is Competion with Steam OS a good thing?

A steam deck 2 would be cool but only when it's truly ready. Like Valve said, they want a bigger leap in computing
They just need a modem or sim compatible for real portable gaming

Indiana Jones , gave me a reason for upgrading from a SD to Rog Ally X
Totally with you on that! Really shows how poor the hardware performs. Loads of games I've purchased have turned out to be equally as shit too.
How well does ROG X run new games? The deck is really starting to struggle on some new releases and im thinking about replacing it next year.

A Nintendo Switch that had a Steam app would be gaming perfection.
If steam os goes to other handhelds, theres no reason to get a steamdeck anymore cos its the weakest handheld.
Might be the weakest but its the most well known, still runs most games well and is the cheapest.
