Watching this fight and we get a knock on the door from Spokane police. We were truly privileged to have Ali. He certainly was The Greatest. He took the biggest and toughest and dismantled them but he was far more than just the most amazing heavyweight ever. We will never see the like of him again. A compassionate man in a brutal sport should never have stood a chance - he was a beautiful human being who gave us all so much and he will never be forgotten.
Ron Lyle started his actual boxing career much later than most professionals do. If Ron could have started earlier I have little doubt he would have been a heavy weight champ, greatest generation of heavy weight boxers.
I am glad they show some of the pre-fight here. For me personally, this was a very exciting fight to anticipate because this was the first time in many years that they showed a live Heavyweight Championship fight on free TV. Don’t get me wrong, looking back, I loved the closed-circuit telecasts, but I remember just the feeling I had for this fight, 44 years later.
Ali was not only a very well trained and committed athlete , he happened to be a very smart fighter,, Not many boxers can have that, That sharp Intelligence is a gift from God.

You are right - Foreman just wasn't the same after Ali, but he still had devastating power, and may have had more heart than when he fought Ali. The Foreman who fought Ali hadn't really been tested, and might not have gotten back up after being knocked down. It was a back and forth slugfest, and both fighters showed incredible heart as they were both throwing and getting hit by some major bombs. I'm still amazed whenever I watch it. Lyle and Foreman both deserve credit for that fight.
Ali always promoted that ref's should stop fights earlier, because when a fighter takes 20 shots in a row, that's sufficient evidence that the fighter can't defend himself, and another 10 or 20 can do permanent damage or even kill him. When I think of the best part of human nature, this aspect of Ali always comes to my mind.
Lyle had the uncanny ability to remain standing when he was out cold almost. Foreman hit him with some bombs, but he just stood in the corner. Finally, Foreman stepped back and let him fall. This was a good stoppage.
Nonsense. If that's the case, then you could make the same arguments during the second and third Frazier-Ali battles, when Joe had Ali all but dead on his feet. Joe had the reputation of being able to fight back while VERY hurt. Why didn't the ref stop those bouts and give the title back to Joe?

Ali is unbelievably smart in the ring. After watching Foreman and Lyles war and how Ali took him out in about a minute is pretty unreal. Big respect aswell for the way he backed off waiting for the ref to wave it off wen he knew Lyle was done. That's a really decent thing to do. Legend
Ali and Howard had a special relationship and they obviously liked each other a lot. When Howard goes into his phony speech about Ali being utterly shaken before this fight Ali's eyes light up with humor and Howard is laughing as the interview ends. You are right - Foreman just wasn't the same after Ali, but he still had devastating power, and may have had more heart than when he fought Ali. The Foreman who fought Ali hadn't really been tested, and might not have gotten back up after being knocked down. It was a back and forth slugfest, and both fighters showed incredible heart as they were both throwing and getting hit by some major bombs. I'm still amazed whenever I watch it. Lyle and Foreman both deserve credit for that fight.

Kyle was damn near as Tough as Foreman. Ali was great but took a lot of hits. Ali was 4 sure a champ.
Ali always promoted that ref's should stop fights earlier, because when a fighter takes 20 shots in a row, that's sufficient evidence that the fighter can't defend himself, and another 10 or 20 can do permanent damage or even kill him. When I think of the best part of human nature, this aspect of Ali always comes to my mind.
Lyle had the uncanny ability to remain standing when he was out cold almost. Foreman hit him with some bombs, but he just stood in the corner. Finally, Foreman stepped back and let him fall. This was a good stoppage.
Nonsense. If that's the case, then you could make the same arguments during the second and third Frazier-Ali battles, when Joe had Ali all but dead on his feet. Joe had the reputation of being able to fight back while VERY hurt. Why didn't the ref stop those bouts and give the title back to Joe?

He was a genius. First he tired the monster Lyle then he stood in front of him and exchanged strikes moved faster and connected, Lyle was vulnerable then, and so he got the TKO, definitely Ali's condition and intelligence place him as one of the best boxers in history.

I can't comprehend Howard Cosell ever saying that a fight with Ali in the ring could or would be "boring" or "dull". @@ppuh6tfrz646 Yes, several times Cosell interviewed fighters while rounds were in progress. Usually he kept those interviews to before round 5, as the fighters often found it hard to answer questions after 5 rounds of being battered. I enjoyed Cosell getting insight during fights.
I hope Lyle worked with young offenders because when you consider his background and listening to him speak, you just know that he could have had an enormous influence in turning people's lives around.

Ali is unbelievably smart in the ring. After watching Foreman and Lyles war and how Ali took him out in about a minute is pretty unreal.

Ali and Howard had a special relationship and they obviously liked each other a lot. When Howard goes into his phony speech about Ali being utterly shaken before this fight Ali's eyes light up with humor and Howard is laughing as the interview ends.
Not enough has ever been said about the power of Ali to take punches and not get knocked out. Ali was special for many reasons but his ability to take punches from the hardest punchers of his day and just keep fighting is mind boggling.
