I work a 9-5, have a toddler and preteen and marathon training. With everything going on I never think to myself how hard it is to get through the week, but hearing someone say it blows my mind lol I run while I wait for my son to get out of speech therapy, while my daughter is at gymnastics, on my lunch break, and 5 am some days so I can make it home before everybody wakes up. When you love what you do you figure out a way to keep going. Good job to you too sir!
I’m a mom w/ a full time job and prior to that, ran 15 marathons. I’m planning to do my first one in a decade in March. Watching videos like this to increase my morale because the training is supposed to start in less than a month.
Mad respect man. I’m training for a marathon as well, and I have a wife/infant daughter as well, so every day is just absolutely packed. Just gotta do what you gotta do
Wow thank you for making this video. I’ve had a hard time feeling motivated to get my runs in before/after work, refreshing to see someone who’s not just a running-content creator getting it done. Respect
Wholesome af. I have no intention of doing this but run regularly and this is nice to see how you can make it work and be happy. Nothing but the best for you mate, hope you and the girl work out, she seems very caring, also love the double beds.
im a high school runner hoping to run in college next year. after college this is the kind of life i would like. keep up the good work and you definitely earned a subscriber!
This video is actually sick. Inspiring and funny at the same time. I just graduated college and I'm trying to adjust my running to the 9-5 life. Loved the long format and minimal editing. Felt real. Subscribed, looking forward to more of your content
17:45 You hit the nail on the head. I ran a sub 4hr marathon a number of years ago and the race was awesome, but the training schedule is what pushed me away from doing another. I was simply away from the family too much on the weekends.
Really enjoyed this video, very realistic, well edited and kind of refreshing 🔥 Can definitely relate to running after a long day, having to run after having had classes from 8 am till 4 pm, is the worst 😅 Would love to see a video with more on your nutrition 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Nothing like finishing a long day of labor and then rippin 10 miles, am I right. Think I will do something on nutrition at some point
Oh shit! Youre a neighbor! Clevelander here, nice to have found you. I wish i could put miles in like that, but i'm too big. I run 3 miles at the gym and i'm soaked and drained. You make it look so easy.
thanks from netherlands. 9-5 job is for me a 8-6 job. but i work from home and my lunch breaks are often my running routines thanks for the video. enjoy your day en keep it up the good work!!
First time viewer here. I love your straight honesty in this video. No sugarcoating what a typical week looks like - just taking us along for the ride. I have a lot of respect for your commitment to your 9-5, training, and this channel. Keep pushing Shane! (I subscribed!)
Work from home was probably the best thing to ever happen to a 9-5 grind. I work three twelve hour shifts in a hospital and having 4 days of a week to be home with family or by yourself is so amazing for mental health
I used to also take pretty high dosage (5-10mg) melatonin every night but that can really mess you up in the long-term, I've switched to taking 300mcg (microgram, not gram -- so .3g) and have been much better off since DYOR but the actual studies that have shown melatonin to promote sleep have been with low dosages like 300mcg
I also highly recommend 500mg of magnesium (preferably magnesium glycinate) 1-2hrs before bed -- that plus the 300mcg melatonin have been game changers for recovery for me
dude this is great motivation to not give, for me personally my job it 3h drive per day so I end up running at night since it's not safe for me to run in the morning first attempt was tonight and I gave up after 4k my lungs couldn't take the cold which motivating me to push more in the next couple of weeks
This came up in my suggested and half way through I assumed you had 100k++ subs. I have a 9 to 5, am also an engineer and have 2 half and 2 marathons that I am training for at the moment. Good luck with your training.
Really useful this, im hitting 100km 62 mile weeks at the moment with a full time job, feels easier to get the rest in as winter and on the odd occasion will use the treadmill if too cold/dark for my liking.
I have a wife and one kid, I'm in school, and have a job, but the most I've ever run in a week is 40 miles. I'm not going to run a marathon. I run half-marathons and plan to graduate, so to speak, to triathlons.
That’s a very good question.. a lot of runs in the dark to be honest. Also multiple treadmill runs when there is snow (which is quite often in northeast Ohio). Definitely not ideal but gotta stay in shape during the off season
btw don't take ashwaganda all the time some people can have liver issues and it can make you feel a bit emotionless, I just take it when im feeling a bit anxious or when Im going to sleep rarely. glycine has no side afffects and melatonin just use to reset your sleep habits but stop once you sort it.
I have a full time job and building a business that I’m soon to be opening. All while training for my first half next week. 30 plus miles on top of 10+ hours of weights weekly isn’t for the weak 🤣
Working night shift but after work I like to run on the trail, just started 3 weeks ago.. every run my knee hurts less and less and I can go alittle bit further I’m nowhere near ready for a half marathon and still pacing pretty slow but hoping to improve on my distance and speed
I did around 80 per week... it wasn't that bad. Had a lot of time on my hands. Now trying to balance 8-4 job and some skateboarding, it's a little harder. But I will keep on keeping on
Thank you! I currently do very little strength training (which may or may not be a good thing). I personally think it’s overrated in a lot of ways.. I’d rather run more miles then spend time strength training, but I’m planning to incorporate a bit in the future to experiment more with it.
It’s really not that hard with kids. I have 2 kids and both my wife and I have full time jobs. I do half marathons, half ironmans, and currently training for a full ironman. Kids sleep 10-11 hours AND they nap 1-3 hours, so if you go to bed at the same time as them or shortly after them, you should have 1-3 hours you can train in the morning before they wake up and doubles on the weekends when they nap. I also train mostly at home on the trainer and treadmill. My trainer is also in the kids playroom haha. Just have to get creative!
Glad you enjoyed! When I double, I prefer to do it on easy days. A lot of people will double on their workout days, whether that be a short shakeout in the morning with the workout in the afternoon/evening, or a morning workout with a shakeout in the afternoon/evening. I think it’s really up to personal preference. For me right now - I like to go into my workouts fully rested without a double on my legs (and I don’t prefer working out in the morning). That’s what works for me, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best option for everyone!
I typically don’t, unless if the runs are upwards of 2 hours or if I’m running in the heat. I wouldn’t typically recommend that, but everyone is different and fueling strategies may vary a little person by person. I’ll try to make a fueling video at some point!
Beginner here, what do you mean when you say Rep, do you walk between reps or completely stop, and also do you stop your strava or tracking app between reps, for me I do walk and jog reps and that kind of ruins my Avg Pace on strava
So for reps, that means each individual portion of a workout. For instance, if I’m going 5xmile, each mile would be one rep (repetition). In between reps, I typically jog. I don’t pause on my watch typically, although it really doesn’t matter in my opinion. Depends on how you want strava to look (but don’t care about strava pace lol).
I thought i was feeling a good vibe from you, then I found out that not only do you run, but youre and engineer and youre from Ohio??? 😵💫 I wish we could go for a run together dude! Im from Youngstown. I used to do engineering in Twinsburg, but I ended up moving to a job closer to Pittsburgh. Maybe one day I can meet you at a race around Cle. We can discuss in detail all of the 2016 era rap (the best era)
Build up your mileage! You got plenty of time being that your race is in April. Slowly build your weekly mileage up and add some intensity as your fitness continues to improve. I know that’s really vague but I’d encourage you to find a training plan (perhaps online somewhere), stick to it, and see how your body responds. Good luck!
I respect this. This is normal life. It's not glamorous, but it's goodness.
