So theory suggests foreigners thought the whole city was called Bangkok when in fact it was just a district. And I guess we just rolled with it. The real name of Bangkok among Thais is Krung Thaep etc. Etc, because Bangkok/Krung Thaep holds the Guinness book of records for the longest name of a capital city in the world. Yeah, look that up.
