- A video looking at some of the places we have lost over the years in Chester le Street this is only a tiny fraction. But hopefully it will jog a few memories. I know it has jogged my memory.
Great videos of chesta, so many memories, strong family connections, me granda was copper early doors on the main street then lter in a police house at pelton, uncle bill was a bus driver, dad worked at the old garage next to the northern bus depot now bp filling station later a heavy goods driver, the old picture of the market, could guarantee me motha probably in the picture somewhere she never missed it whether she wanted owt or not ,bought me first motorbike from Hamilton's then later aquired one of their own unique yamahas, apptly named a hamyam, all seems like yesterday , cheers, thanx for the memories 👍

Sad Colin only memories left of a lot of places
The Arcade was destroyed by fire in 1969, but I have clear memories of it being open in the 70s and looking pretty identical to how it was beforehand. I used to spend a lot of time in the Toy Shop at the back of the Arcade. I can only assume it was rebuilt.
As for Picktree bridge, wasn't that still there in the 70s? I seem to recall something about a trainee bus driver taking off the top of a double decker because he didn't estimate the height correctly.

Yes Dad took me down to watch the Fire in 69. They did re-build it I remember Robinsons after it was re built. Thanks again for the comment

As someone who moved to the town in 2000 (wife's family have been her since 1974), I can still remember some of these places.
Should blame the local councillors for ripping the heart out of what was once a town people travelled to for the market and a night out.
The town is dying unfortunately.
As usual a lovely video. i was looking through your videos colin and came across your dog Tina who passed away and honestly she is the spitting image of our dog Cassie who also passed away. Wish i could get a photo to show you. We got her from Brysons. Thanks for your channel. Mal
Thank you Pat. We got Tina from Brysons as well 2004. Still cant get over her not been here it was 2 years last November we lost her. Best friend ever for me

What happened to that war memorial??
Hi Peter it was getting used for the wrong things mainly a toilet. So sadly it was demolished the name boards still survive they are at the back of St Marys and St Cuthberts Church Yard
