  • On 24th July 1964, the British government designated Washington a new town.
    Ged Parker is Chair of Washington History Society and it's fair to say he has the inside story, as he was part of Washington Development Corporation in the 1980s. He outlines the development of the new town and the distinctive factors involved in this significant piece of urban planning.
    NB Ged has asked viewers to note the following correction - the controversial District Numbering system was finally scrapped in 2002, not 1986 as he suggested in the recording.
