Here's the summary of major themes which I feel in this song&video:
Exploitation (Floor) - using your children for attention with disregard for their well-being, playground on the background screen being denied to her. Little girl jailed in the specifically designed skirt, literally trapped under her mother's influence.
Hypocrisy (Tuomas) - the obvious clue one is the 2-sided sign he's carrying, nuclear power plants have indeed been targeted by environmentalists, despite being statistically one of the most efficient options we have right now for power generation iirc. And of course the oil - we surround (bathe) ourselves in it everyday in the form of fossil fuels as well as plastics.
Tribalism (Emppu & Kai) - differing views will be attacked, and these attacks get even more attention within the tribe, creating a vicious cycle
Consumerism (Marco) - targeting our insecurities or impulses to make profit, several types of pills make an appearance (weight loss, "man power", "X inch"). The dichotomy between his high energy while marketing/selling the miracle solution, and when the pills are piling up in boxes his demeanor changes to disgust "ugh, what are we going to do with all this crap if it doesn't sell"
Corruption of power (Troy) - I haven't seen or read this yet (altough certainly someone thought of this already?), to me this is a representation of Trump, given the golden toilet and the image of Capitol Hill in Washington on the screen behind him at one point. There have been two stories in Trump's past which involved gold toilets, although he doesn't actually seem to use one in reality, and criticizing him for "toilet tweeting" is also a thing.
Vanity (the model) - easy one to pick up, fame for looks is hollow etc., couldn't detect any more complex or deeper meaning behind it, except I did notice that the girl with the curlers & getting her lips pumped, had the same type of hooded people around her who were the mindless tribe/gang in Emppu's part

Funny how people look at all the details but fail to see the whole story. Here is what I see:
The baby with the masked screen represents us, who are looking at the world through our cellphones, ingesting all the nice stories that are being broadcasted to us every day. All these stories look nice and feel good, hence the heart in the screen of the hood. Like. The child likes what he sees under the hood. What he sees is shown immediately when the song starts. We see Floor the perfect mom, Marco with his great supplements, King Troy, who represents the industry and his status with his oil-rigged crown and his throne and gold platform shoes. And we see Tuomas the environmentalist and the beauty queen representing the beauty ideal. They all are telling these nice stories and they look exceptionally good. I also see that the colors are weird, partly black and white, grey and partly colors. It feels unnatural. They all have one thing in common. The stories that they are telling aren’t true.
When the bridge in the song starts, the whole picture changes. We see reality a.k.a. truth. Floor isn’t the perfect mom and her child isn’t happy. Tuomas baths in oil and doesn’t mind that he pollutes his environment. The beauty model uses the curlers and needs lip fillers and isn’t that perfect after all. And king Troy turns out to be an ordinary man sitting on a toilet.
In the end the child has become an old man and dies. Then we see the colorful sunrize in the sky. The color in all its variations, represent truth. Truth is never black or white, it has all kinds of colors. But the child never sees it because he is blinded by all the fake stories that he likes so much.
I also see emppu’s face light up in color which means that he sees the truth. His fellow group members don’t accept that and defend their fake story as the one and only truth. They even attack him for it. The one and only truth... where have I heard that before? Ah, yes. In religion. That’s why they are dressed as monks. They have a monopoly on truth, just like religion has.
The point in this story is that large groups of people are indoctrinated by fake stories that are being told by individuals, companies and politicians. Fake stories look good, feel great and people love to hear them. True stories on the other hand, don’t look good, and don’t feel good either. The truth is often ugly. That’s why most people don’t want to hear those. They prefer the fake stories.
Good, except for the Trump thing. That was a bit off the wall.
The girl in the beauty parlor and getting the lip injections is the same vain model showing what she goes through to present her image.
No one is commenting on the repeated use of hexagons (flooring, the table arrangement). It's the shape of the honeycomb and a metaphor for the hive mind. The hexagon is also the distribution pattern for cell phone towers.

What a pleasant surprise. As with most of their albums, Nightwish's 1st single from an album is the most mainstream & radio friendly track. There's so much going on in this music video that it's hard to concentrate properly on the music & lyrics during one's 1st listen. It takes several repeats to really appreciate how this music video merges Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" with the TV-series "Black Mirror" laced with some Matrix & GoT vibes to paint a dark/critical picture of the world we live in. It's also like the display of the seven deadly sins: lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy & pride.
Anyway, for me this is what true art sounds & looks like. Although the lyrics are not that easy to sing, Floor is pitch perfect with flawless timing and consistency throughout the song. According to Tuomas, they ditched the symphonic orchestra & rely more on vocal harmonies of the three vocalists Floor, Marko & Troy on CD1 of their new double album. However, CD2 is just one instrumental track with the orchestra & it's divided into 8 chapters totaling over 30 minutes.

Why would anyone be interested in her? that's what I don't get! That's exactly what is being pointed out in the video, so called social media stars who are more important than the people with real talent in the world!
I believe there will be vocals on the 2nd disc track as well just not lyrics. I imagine that it may be more along the lines of The Eyes of Sharbat Gula where there are vocals but no discernible lyrics being sung if that makes sense?? All will be revealed in due course but that is my interpretation of what I have seen and read.

Ok, here is my take then. The video is not about social media or cell phones per se. Those are just the communication channels. The video is about the messages that are being sent to us through these communication channels. The video is roughly devided in two parts. In the first part you see everybody looking beautiful and presenting all these great stories. In the second half of the video we get to see reality. When you see the reality then you must realize that the stories which are being told and shared in the first part are all fake. The first part shows all the fake stories that we take in every day, the second part shows the actual truth, which is largely different than all the nice stories. The child that grows up under the helmet represents us, accepting all the fake stories without criticism, hence the heart shows that the child likes what he sees. The helmet represents the fact that we are blinded from the truth and we eventually die unknowing of the truth. The last shot shows the colorful sky which is a metaphor for truth. The images of the helmet boy are dark and grey, without color, which resembles the fact that he does not see the truth. Emppu and the people around him represent group norm and group behavior. The group embraces the fake stories and the monks garments are a reference to how the group treats their ‘truth’ as a religion. It’s what they believe, and they defend it when Emppu’s face lights up in a colorful way. Remember, truth. Emppu is literally enlighted. He sees truth and his fellow group members attack him for betraying their beliefs in the fake stories.
This video is not about social media at all. It is about how modern communication channels are being used to indoctrinate us with fake stories. This is not a new problem, indoctrination and propaganda have been going on for centuries. Social media has only worsened the situation.
Also man, it kinda sucks that you judge this song on a first listen. Just go back and listen to all of the singles of Nightwish. I'd say this is the bast one yet. Topic is not nothing new, but the way Nightwish did it is pretty damn good. But what is a original topic now days? What topic would you chose? Cliche you broke my heart? LOL
This is pretty complicated song on the inside, but now days people scratch a surface of the song, and they've covered everything that there is about it. Or so they think!
Also what's with the crazy expectations? Not every song on a album can be like Ghost love score, Poet and the pendulum or Greatest show on earth! It's a radio friendly single.

I dunno, I felt like the scene with Empuu was a perfect depiction of cancel culture, and how we're all expected to live up to these unattainable levels and fall in line, and I thought the red light was the sudden onslaught of the internet mob. And then they proceed to stab him in the stomach and kick the shit out of him in mob-like behaviour just because the screen said go. It's very much about fitting into molds, but also doing everything for the approval and observation of others. Like how Tuomas was doing all kinds of shit to get praise and recognition as an environmentalist because we're slaves to society and manipulated through it to fall in line.
I think the video is less about the messages that are being sent to us, and more about how we feel about ourselves in response to them, and how far we're willing to go to appease those feelings. I think it's more about our insecurities and the fucked up way it's got all of society in the same rut, but also about how society has been manufactured to create these circumstances. They need to have some element of control if they're going to be able to cover some of their more shady shit that's going on when our heads are turned.

What I have understand, new album continue that path what last album was. But Tuomas has done several changes. Less orchestra (mainly just strings and a choir), letting Floor use full capacity, giving little more space to Emppu and he released Kai Hahto. Like "do your drumming like you do, not like Jukka Nevalainen". So, we are waiting something special to drumming also. You remember what he did in Wintersun... And those three vocalist will do more vocal harmonies, in a way they haven´t yet done earlier. So, something old, something new. And that was disc 1. Disc 2 is just instrumental, where London Philharmonic Orchestra plays mainly!

Watching all "Noise" reactions since now, yours is in the upper spectrum of observing / interpreting the metaphors, I've seen worse, much worse in last days, even hours.. It's so odd, here and there I see people saying this is on the nose and hesvy handed, and on the other side people still don't get what they're saying. You're a wise, thoughtful person who has thought about these issues, so it's not new to you. So many others seem to be willfully blind, they refuse to think about the deeper message, and that's the real problem. Good thing we have corona to distract ourselves!
There’s great irony in the vid as Tuomas the hypocrite green activist is holding his rubber duck. Tuomas is known of his love towards Scrooge McDuck comics, he has even composed an album to fit comic book ”Life and Time of Scrooge” and his wife Johanna Kurkela sings in the album. I feel it's heavier than their typical singles. I'm hoping it means the rest of the album is even heavier.

This song and video is a representation of this generations Brave New World/Matrix. From the beginning, in today's society, little ones are 'plugged in' when their parents hand them a phone to keep them pacified, out of their hair, and quiet. From that point it's a vicious circle of being bombarded by the falseness of what to think, feel, and how to behave, "Slave To A Brave New World". There is a real genuine immoral hypocrisy and virtue signaling that is going on; In the video they portray the environmentalist proudly protesting, who in reality is actually submerged happily bathing in the filth that he's protesting. The happy get quick-result pill pusher, who is really a depressed addict. The 'current' image driven ideal of beauty of being a lover of thy self, who 's beauty in reality is all artificially created. The 'child- conscious' mother posing with her 'doll-like' child, when in reality she's verbally abusing said child, caging it with indifference (also an acknowledgment of child trafficking). The 'woke' people sitting as if on pews scrolling religiously through their phones, in reality when one actually 'wakes' or steps differently from the 'crowd- thought' they are viciously attacked by said crowd... those onlooking instead of doing the ethically moral thing and helping the one being attacked uses the opportunity as a photo opp. The king that sits on a 'throne of power' that people present themselves to, in actuality that 'throne' is a golden toilet, a false position of power. Throughout the video, we are visualizing the age progression of that little baby from the beginning that was 'plugged in' until it's an old man who's video feed has just ended, when he passed... next to him is another 'plugged in' baby. A destructive image of the serpent eating it's own tail. The kicker to this video is two things. 1) The dark driving power of evil that is seen throughout the video in the form of the big black ever moving square screen behind the 'kings throne'. 2) All this immoral falsity represented, is taking place in the middle of the true natural beauty of God's creation... yet no one sees or feels that true reality because they are 'plugged in' and made blind to it. So very sad, yet a true representation of today's society.

One thing I love about recorded videos is I can fast forward through all the pauses most people seem to need... Less than 1 minute into the video he pauses it for 3 1/2 minutes to discuss the first 1 minute of the video. He talks for over 3 times the length of the video. Video is just over 5m long and the entire reaction is almost 17m... You are supposed to be reacting to the video not stopping it every 30 seconds to analyze it for 3-4 minutes... Reaction != Analyze
Wow, I didn't think he stopped that much and I really enjoy his commentary he gives for his perspective of the lyrics. I appreciate him digging deeper than watching, saying oh that was good see you next time, just to get views.
I would imagine doing all that timing throughout the video you missed most of it anyway. If you don't like the way he does it just move on. If you want it done a certain way then start your own channel. "Think right and then write" :-)
