And thank you, Jonathan, for introducing Sara to this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). May I suggest that you continue with performances from this 2103 Wacken concert… it is perhaps the most amazing concerts I’ve ever seen (not in person unfortunately). A decade ago I thought I would never hear a great band again. And then I discovered Nightwish! What a revelation. Best band of the 21st Century. Great reaction, and I will be waiting for more!

My all-time favorite singer and band. Floor's vocals are at another level, and we all love the antics of Emppu (lead guitar) who has once in a while pranked Floor onstage, such as turning off her in-ear monitor as he walks by or giving a little tug on her hair. She was with the band for 10 months at this stage and refers to the members as her brothers. 😄🤘
Great reaction to a great band. I am also proud of our Dutch Floor Jansen, who is married to the drummer of the band Sabaton. She now lives in Sweden and has just had her second child. She had her education at the Rock Academy in Tilburg in the Netherlands and she also had a short classical education. She also used to be a singing teacher. Next year (2025) she will start a theater tour in the Netherlands which is almost completely sold out. I'm glad I was able to get a ticket for her show in Eindhoven. I still have to wait a year (October 23, 2025) but it's definitely worth it.

And to perhaps wet your appetite a bit more.. allow this Dutchie to add a quasi-spoiler, i.e. that an amazingly talented Aussie multi-instrumentalist is starring in that video. Starring as in trvly shining. He's also in Ayreon's legendary live shows, like Ayreon Universe Live 2017 --> e.g. the cheerfully titled: "Ayreon - Everybody Dies (Ayreon Universe)". Enjoy! This is one of many songs at this Wacken concert that was performed better than the original studio version just because Floor sang it. Her range, diction, versatility and empathy puts so many singers to shame. The operatic middle section here was not sung in the studio or live by the previous singer Anette Olzon as she couldn't.
You're not wrong that this could be part of a film soundtrack. They actually made a movie called "Imaginaerum," based on the album of the same name, where "Storytime" came from.
The drummer, after several years had to move to an office job because he is literally hurting himself with his head movements. When studied, it was found that he was incurring the equivalent of a car accident every concert. Still, we loved his time in the sun. There is a lyric video of a brand new song called "An Ocean of Strange Islands". The recording of this song for the album was done six *weeks* after her second daughter Lucy was born. She was given another six weeks for recording her vocals at her home studio. She completed it in six DAYS, shocking the band and producers. The nice thing about the video is that the instrumentalist are each given a chance to shine when she isn't singing, and you can hear her vocal gymnastics in the song as well. NW also has much longer concert songs, used typically to end the concert. Usually around 20m long. Imagine doing an almost two-hour concert and finishing with a long song.

Great reaction, you have a new subscriber. Yes, there is something special about Nightwish and Floor Jansen; I have never been moved so much before by the music of a band or a voice like Floor's. She is an empath and able to communicate the feelings in a song to the audience. Gabriel has already sent you a list of songs he recommends; you cannot go wrong with this list. From the new album (released in September 2024) Yesterwynde I would recommend the songs "An ocean of strange islands" (lyric video) and "Lanternlight" (music video); for the latter have your tissues ready, this song is sheer beauty. Tuomas the songwriter said that this is a lovesong to his father who died in 2021 and all other beloved people who passed away to celebrate their lives.

Great reaction! L/S for you. It would be awesome if you could do every song from this performance. I am 66 years old and have seen many concerts in my day, this is far and away the best I have seen. Floor was born to be the vocalist for Nightwish, she is other worldly. This iteration of the band is my favorite, I think they lost part of their soul when Marko and Juka left 🙁. So great seeing you both react to Nightwish. Each band members are state of the art. Yes Tuomas uses a real Orchestra over in U.K. he gets his recordings from he writes and creates his ideas and they help bring it to life. Jukka works for Nightwish in the background now as he suffered from Insomnia and massive migraines but i do miss him he's a very animated drummer. His friend Kai is the new drummer for Nightwish and has been for some years now. Marko sadly had left the band due to personal reasons there is a You Tube interview which he explains this no it's not so much the band but it's other reasons you'll just have to watch the interview. New Bass player is also called Jukka both him and kai are ex Wintersun members

Floor brought a more edgy metal vibe to Nightwish in addition to Tarja’s operatic and Annete’s more pop vocal styles. IMO this is what allowed Nightwish to realize its fullest potential and effectively rise above any genre. Her presence , in turn, freed Thomas to write whatever he was hearing in his head without worrying about whether or not the singer was up to the challenge. It also let Marko completely off the leash and allowed his inner vocal ‘beauty and the beast’ to soar untethered. Floor was the missing ingredient that completed the band. Add to that her charisma, statuesque appearance, sweet personality, and work ethic, and you have the perfect person to front this band.

May I suggest that you continue with performances from this 2103 Wacken concert… it is perhaps the most amazing concerts I’ve ever seen (not in person unfortunately). A decade ago I thought I would never hear a great band again. And then I discovered Nightwish! What a revelation. Best band of the 21st Century. Great reaction, and I will be waiting for more!

My all-time favorite singer and band. Floor's vocals are at another level, and we all love the antics of Emppu (lead guitar) who has once in a while pranked Floor onstage, such as turning off her in-ear monitor as he walks by or giving a little tug on her hair. She was with the band for 10 months at this stage and refers to the members as her brothers. 😄🤘

Great reaction to a great band. I am also proud of our Dutch Floor Jansen, who is married to the drummer of the band Sabaton. She now lives in Sweden and has just had her second child. She had her education at the Rock Academy in Tilburg in the Netherlands and she also had a short classical education. She also used to be a singing teacher. Next year (2025) she will start a theater tour in the Netherlands which is almost completely sold out. I'm glad I was able to get a ticket for her show in Eindhoven. I still have to wait a year (October 23, 2025) but it's definitely worth it.

This is one of many songs at this Wacken concert that was performed better than the original studio version just because Floor sang it. Her range, diction, versatility and empathy puts so many singers to shame. The operatic middle section here was not sung in the studio or live by the previous singer Anette Olzon as she couldn't.
I agree! Anette is very gifted in her own way but Floor manages to up level this tune in a way that others couldn't. Thanks so much for being here! 😊

The drummer, after several years had to move to an office job because he is literally hurting himself with his head movements. When studied, it was found that he was incurring the equivalent of a car accident every concert. Still, we loved his time in the sun. There is a lyric video of a brand new song called "An Ocean of Strange Islands". The recording of this song for the album was done six *weeks* after her second daughter Lucy was born. She was given another six weeks for recording her vocals at her home studio. She completed it in six DAYS, shocking the band and producers. The nice thing about the video is that the instrumentalist are each given a chance to shine when she isn't singing, and you can hear her vocal gymnastics in the song as well. NW also has much longer concert songs, used typically to end the concert. Usually around 20m long. Imagine doing an almost two-hour concert and finishing with a long song.

Great reaction, you have a new subscriber. Yes, there is something special about Nightwish and Floor Jansen; I have never been moved so much before by the music of a band or a voice like Floor's. She is an empath and able to communicate the feelings in a song to the audience. Gabriel has already sent you a list of songs he recommends; you cannot go wrong with this list. From the new album (released in September 2024) Yesterwynde I would recommend the songs "An ocean of strange islands" (lyric video) and "Lanternlight" (music video); for the latter have your tissues ready, this song is sheer beauty. Tuomas the songwriter said that this is a lovesong to his father who died in 2021 and all other beloved people who passed away to celebrate their lives.

Mes amis vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin ( je le dit surtout pour Sara ). Je vous souhaite de bons floorgasmes et continuez vos réactions nous serons toujours derrière vous pour vous soutenir pour notre groupe...... Encore plus d'écoutes s'il vous plait...... Merci. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Vous venez d'écouter la 6ème chanson du set, ensuite faites le Ever Dream qui commence comme une douce ballade voix piano et sur un signe de Marko ( le bassiste ) continue d'accélérer pour finir comme un train à grande vitesse et en même temps de faire la connaissance de la voix de Mark , mais en règle générale les nouveaux réacteurs commence par le Ghost Love Score qui reste un incontournable à écouter en priorité, ( et ainsi appréhender l'immense étendu de la voie de Floor ) puis du plus lourd avec Ghost River pour entendre le mélange magnifique des voix de Floor avec Marko ( merveilleuse harmonie ) ou encore plus lourd avec Romanticide ..... OK i have to Confess, first 20 Seconds, i saw some Gent trying to find his Words, and an very good looking, very distiguished styled Lady just smiling into the Camera. Okok, give it an Run most of my Comrades did already comment- Boy have i to excuse to You two:) Gent geeked out with professional Knowledge the whole Time. Floor was born to be the vocalist for Nightwish, she is other worldly. This iteration of the band is my favorite, I think they lost part of their soul when Marko and Juka left 🙁. So great seeing you both react to Nightwish. Each band members are state of the art. Yes Tuomas uses a real Orchestra over in U.K. he gets his recordings from he writes and creates his ideas and they help bring it to life. Jukka works for Nightwish in the background now as he suffered from Insomnia and massive migraines but i do miss him he's a very animated drummer. His friend Kai is the new drummer for Nightwish and has been for some years now. Marko sadly had left the band due to personal reasons there is a You Tube interview which he explains this no it's not so much the band but it's other reasons you'll just have to watch the interview. New Bass player is also called Jukka both him and kai are ex Wintersun members

Tuomas the keyboard player is the writer of most of their music and he uses the London Philharmonic Orchestra for the Symphonic part and he writes the orchestral and the chorus music as well. Small city there that night - 82,000 people.

Nightwish have had three lead singers and their all schooled sopranos.
Although Floor was reasonably new to the band, they knew each other well. Tuomas wanted Floor already in the band after Tarja left, but she was busy with other projects. Floor played some gigs together with Marco already roughly ten years before she entered Nightwish, so they knew each other well, really well, and of course Floor knew Nightwish and the songs... (small world, symphonic metall, with After Forever she was the supporting band for Nightwish already in 2002 where she did duets with Marco). Floor brought a more edgy metal vibe to Nightwish in addition to Tarja’s operatic and Annete’s more pop vocal styles. IMO this is what allowed Nightwish to realize its fullest potential and effectively rise above any genre. Her presence , in turn, freed Thomas to write whatever he was hearing in his head without worrying about whether or not the singer was up to the challenge. It also let Marko completely off the leash and allowed his inner vocal ‘beauty and the beast’ to soar untethered. Floor was the missing ingredient that completed the band. Add to that her charisma, statuesque appearance, sweet personality, and work ethic, and you have the perfect person to front this band.
