Every Touhou Incident EXPLAINED (th6-th19)

- Опубліковано 5 лип 2024
- After completing each mainline game as each character and shot type,
and reading all manga, books, manuals, CDs, and interviews that were available in multiple translations,
this video strives to be a complete, accurate, English compilation of the main relevant events in the Touhou Series
as close to confirmed canon as possible.
Additional information will be displayed on screen, but it is strictly supplementary,
so feel free to just listen to this video as a podcast and alter the speed if that’s more your thing
(there are a lot of names though, so it might get confusing.)
(Also, I apologize for any frequent pausing that may occur due to text on screen, I tried to make it manageable.
My audio and editing skills are a bit choppy at times, and I’m using essentially Windows Movie Maker,
so sorry for any sudden cuts/errors that occurred during rendering).
If any info is wrong, I will scream, as this took months of constant daily research.
I also do my best to avoid mentioning anything to do with game endings when I can, as to respect ZUN’s wishes.
They usually aren’t too plot relevant anyway.
If a notable incident occurs in between games, like in the manga for example, I tie them to the game that’s closest to it in the timeline.
I also assume “Normal” difficulty to be canon,
so if spell cards are only used in higher difficulties, I don’t consider them “spell card battles.”
If there are any lingering questions after all of this, then I encourage you to try and seek out the truth for yourself;
just remember the 1 true rule of the series -
you can’t let yourself be held back by common sense in Gensokyo...

I love how 95% of the incidents are saturday morning cartoon style misunderstandings that Reimu and Marisa solve by accident. It adds to the story book-like vibe.
And the other 5% are usually Gensokyo getting caught in the crossfire of a war that involves hell in one way or another.
Which of the 95% and the other 5% are SMC style misunderstandings and Gensokyo getting caught in the crossfire?
@@beniciobartice4530 The ones with Gensokyo getting caught in the crossfire are ULiL, LoLK, WBaWC, SFW (continuation of the previous one technically). Maybe IN if we count the Lunar War which technically hadn't fully started yet, but Hell is not involved in that one. Every other game can be considered SMC style misunderstanding or goofy cartoon villain shenanigans or characters spreading religious propaganda.
i feel like it's more
"i forgot"
"i didn't care"
"i was curious"
and ofcause
"i wanted to battle"
1:25:00
>step through the hakurei barrier
>immediately get mugged
Can't have shit in Gensokyo
Goddamnit Marisa
1:51:34 this is probably the funniest piece of Touhou lore there is, probably one of the most catastrophic things ANYONE could've done, but nothing happened since Sumireko is just that unpopular.
It's also funny that the person that almost destroyed gensokyo twice is just an outside world highschooler
I mean people would just assume its cgi and scuffed off for it's legitimacy
@@lebro4401 maybe? if she took hundreds or even thousands of pictures or just walked around with a hidden camera on her, that would be hard to defend, especially if you are using one that you CAN NOT ALTER AT ALL(which is pretty cheap, I found a pen one witch on one would expect)., more over all of the "voice actors she would have to pay and the building and that mountain she could take a ride on the ropeway, the events they hold in Gensokyou would be overwhelming especially give how young she is and how long is would take to edit it all, but yeah it would cause problems for Gensokyou, and where is this page from anyway?
funny how an abnormal human _doesn't_ cause two world-ending events by being too normal by societal standards
Once again
Unpopularity saved the day
So a random youtube channel comes out of nowhere and does a full on deep dive into the sea of Touhou lore and creates one of the best lore explaining videos to date.
All my praises to your efforts and hard work. This works as a great guide and refresher for all lore fans. Would be great to see more Touhou content in the future.
Canon conform lore videos are rare and almost non existent. Everyone always throws fannon nonsense into it. Your video is perfect! Thanks for making it.
As a newcomer trying to learn about Touhou canon before jumping into the fanon, this is a great video that explains a lot of stuff like the lore that I wasn't able to pick up during gameplay.
because 1: zun makes things vague to better allow fanon interpretations
2: people more know about the fanon than canon
3: poor meiling
@@DarkSymphony777what is the TouHou fannon lore?
1:20:59 note that the stories of renko and maribel are set in an undefined future, and sumireko is most likely long since dead once renko and maribel's adventures start. it's commonly believed that renko is related to sumireko in someform
Depending on the interpretation, Sumireko is Renko's older sister. Also there's apparently a really... really... weird connection between Yukari and Merry
at least we know sakuya will be around for a very long time lol
@@majoratwili7312 The problem with that, is that Renko is a college student and the things that were depicted would realistically take at least few decades to happen. It's probably like mid/late 21th century.
@@majoratwili7312 And if the future Renko is from is reaaally distant, Sumireko might just be Renko's ancestor
It’s pretty much guaranteed that Sumireko is Renko’s ancestor. In Renko’s time Kyoto’s considered modern compared to Tokyo being archaic, the earth needs terraforming, and there’s tours to the moon. Unless some real insane stuff happens in the next few years, since Touhou runs analogously with real life time, Sumireko is most definitely an ancestor.
As a non Touhou fan watching this for the hell of it, I can confirm that my mind is now a sludge after watching this not knowing anything that was said
It was very hard for me to watch as well. And I know the general gist of everything in touhou (played all the mainlines shmups) and even read some of the manga and books. Especially the last games are very confusing. I also put the video on 0.75 speed or it would have been too hard to understand. Go play the games, read some lore and then come back and you will get 70% of what was said in this video😂
All I could ever grasp was: "Hey, that's a Girl showing up in Bad Apple!".
But so many names, I still have no idea what was going on. Besides the fact that like 99% of those girls just do fights to the death out of boredom.
@@Xaiclun They never fight to the death, due to the spellcard rules. One must create beautiful patterns to send the adversary and all other lore I can't bother explain lol. Just read the books on the Touhou wiki
@@FCTouhouThe spell card battles are just to settle arguments with pretty patterns, which is why men don't battle with spell cards since 'men aren't pretty like gorls'
2:43 - I'm sorry, I just find it absolutely hilarious to think that the reason almost every named character in the entire Touhou series is female is because every man in Gensokyo is like "What's all this fruity spell card shit about? Fuck that, I'm gonna go cut lumber or something else badass. Call me when there's a _real_ fight."
asian men ☕
Meanwhile, at the Scarlet Devil Mansion...
Flandre: *causing many explosions*
Marisa: *firing off gigantic lasers*
Sakuya, tired of everyone's shit: *stopping time to curb stomp them both*
In the fighting games there are references to upcoming incidents
In Touhou 7.5 Patchouli tells Remilia that the moon is shaking and that someone (Lunarians of Eientei) may be plotting something
Touhou 10.5 Yukari asks Patchouli to watch the underground for a while (Patchouli is the first one to notice the spirits coming from there)
Touhou 13.5 Marisa tells Reimu that her mini-hakkero has been... She cuts herself off but its probably starting to freak out due to the events of Double Dealing Character
Touhou 14.5 Many people notice that one occult ball is from the Lunar Capital as they are trying to start the migration into Gensokyo
Touhou 15.5 Koishi tells the sage Yukari that her sister Satori had a premonition that things were going to get busy on the surface and Koishi wonders if the power struggles are going to get worse.
Satori's premonition ended up being true because the sage Okina appears in HSiFS
Anything for 17.5 foreshadowing 2hu 18? (I know its not a fighting game but it was planned to be one)
I could never do this kind of video simply because I'd have to contend with the fact that it will eventually be slightly out of date. Regardless, nice job.
You could create a video series to update the lore accurately
15:44 Bug Girl.
40:59 Bucket Girl.

its crazy how much work you've put into this video and how little views its getting, i hope this you blow up in popularly someday.
I agree
agreed
This is with every Touhou content.
31k views for a channel with 2 videos and 400 subs is pretty good i think.
50k
For 17.5 you forgot to mention how yuuma tryed to recruit joon and shion but okina advicied her that any thing that those 2 are involved in all ways ends in disaster and then they decide to turn a blind eye to what they where doing
Wait, I thought that Sanae didn't want the Shrine to close down, but rather suggested Reimu to close her business down, so the Hakurei Shrine can be taken under the influence of the Moriya Shrine.
That happened specifically because Sanae feared, that if Reimu doesn't take her job seriously, her Shrine loses values and turns itself into a dusty and useless house. It also supports the fact, that Sanae asks Reimu ,,If she has been thinking about it".
Also if Kanako Is true with Sanae being a good Girl, it would make sense that she just wanted to offer her with good intentions.
20:30 Actually, the manipulation of fire is one of her habilities, she has a lot of magical habilities, like a shaman.
Honestly, I'm quite amazed you actually put some aspects of the printworks to these. Not a lot of people realized how connected the mangas and the games are.
Oh thank god, finally a person who pronounces the names correctly and gives a brief summary of the characters too. Bless you
Not only pronounces them correctly, but also gives us an insight into their names and nicknames/titles.
You have my respect, you must have done so much research. This is a really good informative video! You even covered the fighting games!
he forgor PC-98, sadly
@@LavaCreeperPeople pc-98 isnt canon
I love how you don't even have an intro you go straight to the content bro
This video saved my ass as someone who was a big touhou fan back in the day wanting to get back into it. Hope you get the recognition you deserve!
貴方は日本人から見ても完璧な説明をしています!!!今すぐ公式動画にすべきだと思います😂
its funny how yuuma was just chilling down in the blood pools when okina was like "nuh uh"
This is genuinely incredibly well done, thank you
Incredible video. Respect for all the canon research done.
I've been waiting for a video like this for years. Always been curious about touhou but too lazy to go through all the media. Very grateful.
GOD YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS THANK YOU SO MUCH 😭😭
what the hell...?
this just made SENSE to all the stuff thats happening in touhou games now.
i was having a crusade trying to make sense of touhou ingame lore and you combines both main games, spinoff, manga, and the novel ALL in one cohesive list and timeline.
why only 80k views? this is like the "OG GO TO" video when it comes to main touhou canon lore!
Researching all the trivia and the name’s meanings gotta be so much work, respect man
Now that's just what i was looking for, very good and precise, thanks for uploading this
And a hidden gem was discovered today
Absolutely amazing and in-depth video. Thank you so much for explaining each other these incidents in so much depth and humor. I really enjoyed this video and hope that more people watch this.
Hope this blows up! Absolutely fantastic work and research. Helps me as an older touhou fan connect everything and catch up with the newer games and characters!
Phenomenal video, I’ve always wanted to watch a video that roughly explains the events of Touhou from EoSD and onwards since I’ve never had the time to do so myself. You deserve so many more views for all the work you’ve done to create this masterpiece
your video came out of nowhere, giving the best explanation I've ever seen, good job man
I was wishing for a vid covering all the incidents and you did a real good job!
You have no idea how helpful this is
Thanks to this video, I am now going to be giving a Presentation on all of the Touhou lore and your video greatly helped me with my journey of presenting this to my friends. Thank you so much
:)
Touhou in a nutshell
Marisa: Reimu, there's clearly a problem here! You should get off your ass and investigate this incident!
Reimu: Naaah, don't feel like it.
Marisa: REIMU
I guess UFO and UM are times where she chooses not to deal with Reimu and does it herself.
Bro great video!
Thanks for all your hard work making it!
Wanted something like this for a long time. Thank you.
this is NOT what i think it is! i'm so excited to watch this video because it, as someone who just got into touhou from kkhta, seems to be exactly what i was looking for, and i've been for ages!
ok imma just say this
Goddamn my guy. 2 hours (and a little less than 30 minutes). I haven't even started the vid yet, but I'm already interested.
edit: man's completed every game and has read a ton of Touhou literature. The amount of dedication to play all the games (including the fighting games) and go through all physical Touhou material is astounding. This man has done the thing I have wanted to do for so long: dive deep into Touhou. And for that, you have my utmost respect.
This is a really good video man! I focused on trying to piece th1-5 to 6 more than the recent ones so this really helped me learn more about the recent parts of the big narrative
th1-5 arent canon btw ++ theyre from the pc-98 era !!
nice, a 2+-hour Touhou video to watch after i'm done with all of the games (currently on 9.5) :OOO!
yooo my illustrations made appearance twice!!!
great video, didn't know this game has some lores (lie) and not just girls shooting at each others~👀
Love this video you really explain it very well and interesting!!
This is the best video ever. There was no video that summerized all of the touhou lore and now here it is. I thank you so much. I wish there was a video that summarize the pc98 era and how it changes from the canon lore
i watched all 2 hours of this video. and as a new atleast 9 month of being a touhou fans this brings me great understanding on every incident in touhou
Thanks man, you saved me researching touhou, now touhou has taken me and now I'm showing my friend. Thank you man
Great job man, keep up the good work, I loved this video and it teached me a lot, thank you
Thank you soooooo much for this video. Admittedly, I'm into roleplay and I've been wanting to add some aspects and characters from Touhou but have been struggling to find a way to do so due to my lack of proper knowledge on the series. The wiki works fine but I needed aomething more comprehensive to get the events down correctly. Much love. ❤
Amazing work done on this deep dive into touhou cannon lore.
Aesome video for lore! Ive always been curious about the story in this series amd have been hoping for a way to have it summarized in one place.
Great lore, i especially liked all the illustrations/fan art
This is awesome! I was just reading up on Legacy of lunatic kingdom when this popped up. Can’t wait to watch the whole thing when I get the chance, since I’ve never played most of these game. Appreciate the video!!
Amazing job!
azing work in covering not just all the mainline games but also the sub games!
To think that this is "just" the summary..
I think the hours I've spent actually playing / reading all forms of official and doujin Touhou content go in the thousands and the whole journey is still mindboggling to me. And I learned Japanese somewhere along the way. Truely the franchise that formed a major part of my life. Now it's already nostalgically dear to me. Thanks for compiling this, so I don't have to :D
This must've take ages. Much respect for making this. The editing only 😮 omg, good god man. Finding all those pictures too. And everything else 🤔 i was shocked
I really like touhou lore, so this video was a joy to watch and even brought me information I didn't know yet
Blud NEEDS more subs. Great vid.
Thank you!!! I needed this
Amazing work I wish to see more of this and ty for making this love the vid❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I randomly got hooked onto touhou again and was too lazy to play the games, this is very well explained and actually kept me entertained!
The dedication is truly unreal
This is video is good! You deserve more views!
Outstanding!
Gah damn 2 hours but this is an amazing work.Thank you
omg thank you sooo much for this!!!
日本語のオリジナルのタイトルネームとキャクターの名前に付加されている言葉の意味も紹介してくれてありがとうございます。
海外の人たちにも日本文化の理解を広めることにつながると思います。
Thanks for all the information
This was an amazing video, thank you for doing it. I now understand the Touhou games I don't want to play.
I loved this you were so on point
Awesome video
Ahh Thank you brother! I've been waiting for this video ever since 2007. Tohou lore always seemed so charming to me, but I can't read moonrunes and I could never find sufficient resources in languages I know. Amazing work!
just wanna say THANK YOU for this video its rlly well made and i appreciate all the time and effort put into it
Kanako lecturing the Yorigami sisters abour the power of clean energy is my favorite piece of dialogue in the entire series
1:21:00 I haven't watched the full video, so idk if you go over this, but Sumireko are not clubmates with Renko and Merry! This is evident from how the latter two are described as being from the future, them also being college students while Sumireko is a high schooler, and the Secret Sealing Club being reportedly created in their college by Renko.
This is the most complete Touhou lore dive I've seen so far.
You sir have earned a new SUBSCRIBER 💯
awesome vid
This video is a treasure.
great content
Thanks for putting time stamps
1:09:35 - may be getting something mixed up here, Ichirin is Byakuren's follower? She would be fighting for Buddhism in that case.
I haven't really played 13.5, is that like, a whole thing?
edit: 1:21:04 - could have worded this better, i think! Renko and Maribel don't work alongside Sumireko. Renko and Maribel exist in the far flung future of the touhou universe, and are university students where as Sumireko is a highschooler.
This is an awesone job
bro just comes and drops whole touhou story, insane
i wonder how long it took him to make this
This is where the fun begins.
Holy moly, you've done a fantastic job on this. Instant subscribe from me
this is a nice summary of all the games so far. told exactly how it is too. thank you. now how to get others to watch a two hour video?
thanks for the video
what a blast video
amazing video
Very detailed and comprehensible.
15:35 Doesn't matter how many times I see this image, I will always laugh. What a work of art
i like how Eiki will just shows up, air out everyone's dirty laundry infront of others.
2hu 20 - The Return of Mima, maybe. At this point, Zun could accidentally drink a beer with a stronger kick and pull Mima from his ass somehow from the Old World into modern Gensokyo considering Hell is slowly getting closer and closer.
I fear I am going to have to come back to this video a lot just to keep track of all the names lol
That sounds like a lot of work, Nice job
In most video game series, you can just look up a full playthrough/all cutscenes video of a game. You can not do that with Touhou. Lunatic 1cc's are the closest thing to a full playthrough and they are uploaded EXCLUSIVELY for the purpose of showing off skill. They will skip through cutscenes so quick as to make them unreadable as they are not the focus of the video, and that's assuming they're even playing in English, which they usually aren't. There is a wiki and it is very good having written translated transcripts of every single cutscene in every single official game and a surprising amount of fangames, along with links to download the English patches, but many people may not be aware of the existence/usefulness of the wiki. Their are some English videos explaining Touhou lore but they're usually just that, lore, not the plotlines of these games. Basically, there is no way to know the story of an individual Touhou game without playing it yourself and downloading an obscure link unless you go to a site you may not even know exist because there are very few English speaking lore fans on the Internet. This video takes every window era game, including spinoffs and manga, and functionally summarizes what their stories leaving little to no ambiguity on what is or isn't cannon by not even mentioning the choices that aren't Cannon. This comes with some problems, like without the context of the choice between legacy and pointdevice in lolk the fact that they are offered a potion of what is affectively immortality but better and they just deny it and it never gets brought up again is... odd, but other than minor things like that this is an amazing comprehensive video that allows you to experience the underrated narratives of Touhou project in a very accessible way.
PS: PCB is my personal favorite with IN being a close second. I wouldn't have been able to experience either of them without this video. Thank you :)
