Omg. I thought I was the only writer/reader who felt that way about settings. 😂 “It’s a park, I get it. I don’t need to know how many trees there are!” Lol. Beta feedback is definitely overwhelming, but you’ve got this! Good luck with your revisions!
Printing only the relevant feedback is such a good idea! I got so overwhelmed printing all my beta feedback (including emojis) and it took me MONTHS to get through it all. Your way is better
We are the exact same when it comes to opinions on setting description!! I love fantasy but sometimes I wish I didn't have to trawl through paragraphs and paragraphs about what the castle looks like, or what people are wearing in every scene!
Totally understand that feeling of being overwhelmed by feedback - I've definitely felt that before. I got this developmental edit in March 2022 and am honestly still going back to her comments to make sure I haven't missed anything 😅I am also a "it's a park, it's a park" person so when something like the Night Circus comes out and I'm thrilled to read about setting - it's feels like this luxurious experience :) My beta readers got access to the book this week....ahhh!!
I always tell my creative writing students if multiple people comment on the same thing, then it needs to be addressed (usually), but if there are opposing bits of feedback, air on the side of your vision.
Appreciate your transparency about how you are working your way through this beta process! I guess it is different for each writer, but I thought your organizational method (yes, print it!!) and reflections on the input you received were both interesting and instructive. Keep going, it sounds like it's all going so well, Meredith. 🤩
This came at exactly the right time. I just sent my story to betas today so i know how to organize the feedback now, thank you for sharing. that does sound overwhelming, 50 pages.
You had me laughing at the truthful admission of regardless how well a ballroom is described, it’s the same ballroom in every story in my head 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ cause same girl, SAME 😂 I’m into some Dean Koontz rn and his descriptors are eloquent to a fault 😭I love and hate to work to hard to read/appreciate the writing 😂
Enjoying your journey to this book. 😊
Ahh thanks!
I have occasionally fallen into the try and please everyone trap but I generally get myself out of it quick!

😂 I'm glad I'm not alone!!
I'm the same lol!

We'll see how it works out I guess! It is a lot to wade through, but I'm glad I have all the different viewpoints and opinions to think through.

It's going...haha Sometimes it feels slow, but I'm definitely moving forward with things.
