Fun fact: True charge partitioning (a la 3rd Strike Urien) is very rare. The only major games with it (afaik, let me know if I missed one) are 3rd Strike, Under Night... and Smash Ultimate.
@@fiammaorsmth9840 jmcrofts has a video on it, but it's not like a tutorial or anything. In Smash, it's pretty much only used by Terry for his up B iirc. It's so strange how she didn't return in SFV, the game has 2 empty slots on the character select screen that are just BEGGING to be filled and one of them should be Viper. Especially since the ONLY SFIV reps in that game are Juri (who makes sense she's the most popular SFIV newcomer after Viper) and Seth (who is the boss of SFIV and got a neat redesign), so having her would've balanced things a bit by having the 3 most essential characters. And the fact that she was kinda sorta teased in other characters's story modes, complete with a new Baroness/Black Widow-esque new design only makes it worse in retrospective.
I'm sad you left out what I think is her hardest (but not necessarily useful) technique - meterless FADC. Something like ... c.hp -> EX seismo -> sjc -> regular focus (not EX) dash cancel -> ultra. Maybe useful in the sense that it might make the midscreen combo into ultra more consistent provided you can execute well enough.
So not really a meterless FADC but more like a 1 meter FADC (as opposed to the normal 2 meter FADC). That’s really cool, I didn’t know she could do that.
@@ellis7622 Depends how you execute it. It can be completely metereless if done off a regular seismo. It's just even less practical that way. Technically the meterless part only describes the FADC part and not the other parts of the combo since it's people normally assume the regular 2 bar FADC when it's mentioned - or in the case of the combo above it'd be 3 total bars.
@@Sankantsu if you did it off a regular seismo you’d have to change up the combo cause I’m pretty sure c. HP doesn’t combo into regular seismo (except off a counter hit probably) but I see what you’re saying regarding the FADC itself being meterless. Regardless, it’s very cool tech.
Best combo for me was fierce feint fierce, ex seismic hammer, high jump cancel, fadc, to ultra. Ex hammer , high jump cancel into fadc was a great mixup tool. Instead of ultra finish go for a reset.
I used her as my primary character. SF4 was my first time really diving into a fighting game on the 360. I actually ended up getting pretty good with her. She was all mix ups and unpredictability.
I loved c viper i played her in sf 4 and marvel... i wasnt super good i could get cancels on a good day but i loved her design i hope she comes back for 6
I tried picking her up, but damn. She's way to difficult for ME. I do like watching others who know what they're doing with her. So much fun but I can't do it.
What? How come you "can't" do it? Unless you are mentally or physically disabled, then you should be able to do it with enough practice, you just don't want to.
The abusable invincibility looks like some hidden Shulk tech in Smash 4/Ult or alternatively Kazuya stuff in Smash. As long as you can recover fast enough to block or do a normal, that's plenty since SF4 has chip damage, ultras with some gaps and I don't think C. Viper got a parry with Omega... though maybe they messed with this tech in Omega.
Crimson Viper is one of my favorite characters of all tie. I used to play her in SF4. I sucked with her because she was so difficult to learn/play(however I suck with most all characters in fighting games), but she's just such a badass. Even getting my ass handed to me almost every match was still super fun. I also hope she returns in SF6.
I'm glad she wasn't in SFV. Because I just know they would have made the feint her vs 1 or vt 1 and vs2 would be to super jump. Hopefully she can make it to SF6 with most of her options intact
He didn't mention her most broken tool for pressure. Meterless FADC. Viper can seismo cancel into focus attack and dash forward for free to continue pressure. Also, I found doing heavy TN feignt is easier if you SJC the heavy attack first. So instead of HP qcb HP TN feignt, do HP down and circle to up (or up back) then feignt. The few extra frames of Viper starting her SJ give you a little leeway.
Damn I think I knew about negative edge back in the day but the way you explained it at the very least sounds so much easier to fadc into ultra by negative edging (ha) just hold all three buttons (360 controller obviously) instead of mashing for em and getting ex shoree instead. Watershed moment lol
When I started playing Street Fighter IV, the only fighting games I dedicated a long time were SoulCalibur 3, Tekken 5 and X-Men: Mutant Academy 2.
I get the vibe she’s like a SNK/KoF character considering how they really like their short hops and super jumps
Regardless, it’s very cool tech.
sonyono was insane with C viper and Ibuki
Best combo for me was fierce feint fierce, ex seismic hammer, high jump cancel, fadc, to ultra.
Ex hammer , high jump cancel into fadc was a great mixup tool.
Instead of ultra finish go for a reset.
C viper effects would look so good in sf6
Great vid!
The feint cancels look sick, gives me big Johnny vibes
I played this game on controller while it was popular, but I ended up getting a stick just to complete her, Ibuki, Gen, and Fuertes trials 😅
I used her as my primary character. SF4 was my first time really diving into a fighting game on the 360. I actually ended up getting pretty good with her. She was all mix ups and unpredictability.
I loved c viper i played her in sf 4 and marvel... i wasnt super good i could get cancels on a good day but i loved her design i hope she comes back for 6
She would be a demon with the drive rush and drive gauge system for her pressure style.
Train harder and you'll look back at this with a smile
The abusable invincibility looks like some hidden Shulk tech in Smash 4/Ult or alternatively Kazuya stuff in Smash. As long as you can recover fast enough to block or do a normal, that's plenty since SF4 has chip damage, ultras with some gaps and I don't think C. Viper got a parry with Omega... though maybe they messed with this tech in Omega.
...I now,for some reason, want to play SF4 on my 3DS
I played a bit of Viper back in the days, ton of fun but extremely hard to get good with.
And yeah I totally agree, C.Viper needs to return in SF6!
I remember playing her back then, very casually but it was fun.
C.Viper was a great new character with a cool design and pretty unique style. She should definitely come back.
Damn I think I knew about negative edge back in the day but the way you explained it at the very least sounds so much easier to fadc into ultra by negative edging (ha) just hold all three buttons (360 controller obviously) instead of mashing for em and getting ex shoree instead. Watershed moment lol
C. Viper is so hard to play without a stick. I play mostly controller and shes tough as nails on a pad.
This. I play pad too and the thunder knuckle cancels feel so awkward to pull off in combos
For reals. Thats why i mained Guy. His bnb are easy and hes got easy confirms. Too bad hes low tier lmao
When I started playing Street Fighter IV, the only fighting games I dedicated a long time were SoulCalibur 3, Tekken 5 and X-Men: Mutant Academy 2. I thought Crimson Viper was kinda cool, so she was the first character I played on that game.
My fingers essentially died, and my brain was fried. It wasn't until much later that I realized starting with C. Viper was like going up in a very steep and snowy mountain for the first time, with no prior hiking experience.
I played her in MvC3 and she was my favorite! Looking back after this video I realized why I sucked so bad with her though lol
I really really love C Viper, tried to play her. Even got her BnB somewhat down to the point where I can do it pretty much on command, but she is exhausting to play. So I hope capcom brings her back and makes her less stressful to play. For example they could simply make the light versions of her special moves the feints.
I am planning on playing JP in the meantime as he also seems to be a very technical character, although an entirely different archetype
C. Viper was designed after Angelina Jolie of the time it came out, right?
I never learned how to do FnF consistently for all the years I played IV. I can do it in training but in a match, hell nah. I want her to come back so bad!
I would buy an entire season pass for this character unless they somehow ruin her design. She's so fucking cool! I mean just look at her!
I’d have to say Seth, he’s also the coolest. Sucks he wasn’t in sf5 or 6 so far. Sf6 looking like a L until he returns
Really hope Viper comes back for SF6. I wasn’t into fighting games when SF4 was around and she’s one character I regret never playing.
I'm not a fan of needing so many things for a character, but I do hope they bring her back for 6 in some way
Joe's c viper at the start of sf4 was amazing
she neeeeds to come back in SF6, such a cool character and so many cool things you can do with her kit
Unbelievably hard. I can't even do links properly in sf4
