Green arrow was the best character in jlu imo, and jlu is why i still love his character the most. I think he ended up being what batman was supposed to be
This show was fundamental to my childhood and defined my view of what a hero and an adult should be. I believe it has the most definitive versions of the characters that have ever been produced.
Decades ago I had a debate with someone over Batman versus Green Arrow. I won't lie, Ollie being "an old lefty" was part of my bias against him, and that he'd rather (at times) earn the respect of the criminal element than just stomp them out like Batman would do made me see him as weak, or at least less effective. But in time, and in no small part because of JLU, I came to really respect him, his kind of compassion, his standing up for the little guy in light of the large interests that don't care for said little guy, and even his viewpoint that "the government must do for people what people can't do for themselves" kinda became a core value for me (even if I think people need to take more agency for themselves than sometimes they do, but that's a side rant). Now GA is one of my more respected DC heroes. And as was said, he is the guy in the middle that is needed to bring people together. God we need more like him today. And on your final point, Stephen Amell definitely got Ollie's chest muscle definition down pat even if his live action incarnation was more of a Batman in a Green Arrow costume but he kills rampantly for a season, and he just bangs everyone in sight. But he's still cool. Would love to see James Gunn use Amell as GA in his new DC universe.
Honestly, I am sure how much of the comics you have read but in the 90s before rebirth Green Arrow was ridiculous liberal so much so that he was often made fun of by himself and the writers for it. Secondly, Green Arrow has a different relationship with killing than Batman as that Green Arrow will kill but only if absolutely necessary whereas Batman is even more stringent with that. That was what Arrow tried to explore in the first season because there was a point in the comics where Green Arrow basically abandoned this moral position. In fact the difference that people often miss between Batman and Green Arrow is that you can argue that Bruce became Batman when he was 8 years old while Oliver did not become Green Arrow until he was stranded on that island so a large part of Oliver's character is trying to atone for his mistakes (which Arrow also explored).
I would’ve upvoted but I can’t stand narrow minded casting and clinging to previous actors. The characters are bigger than any single actor. And I’d rather see mask than pretty face incessantly. It’s vanity/career move over proper portrayal, just like the Rock as Black Adam. James Gunn will pick an inspired choice and you will be blown away, Amell paling in comparison.
@@henrypeters5291 regarding clinging to them as an actor or inappropriate portrayal of "Barry"? I hope you don't mean they (Ezra) continue in James Gunn universe.
@@indatube I was referring to when Miller was cast instead of Grant Gustin. Even if I were to ignore all the shit Miller has pulled, Gustin is still the superior Flash and Barry Allen by miles. Look, I am all for giving actors a fair shot. And I do not agree with being pessimistic for the sake of being pessimistic. But I also do not agree with being optimistic for the sake of being optimistic. I agree with the original poster that Amell would do a great job, and he definitely deserves a chance, but if he is replaced it is either going to be good or bad. There is no guarantee either way. Also, quick side note. James Gunn is a great storyteller and he understands DC better than any executive has in a long time, but the fact that he called the Flash the greatest superhero movie ever seriously concerns me (I did not even think it was that bad, but damn did he contribute to the hype). Also, there is just something about how he is running things that sends a red flag up the pole.

As off topic as it might sound, I really appreciated how this show didn't shy away from Ollie's politics. The show has episodes with political themes, but Green Arrow is the only character in the entire show who straight up identifies as a "leftie". I myself am not a leftie, I'm not really sure what I would classify myself as, but Green Arrow is one of the very, very few characters in comics who's political leanings are integral to who he is as a character, and I really appreciate that JLU didn't try to dumb it down or sweep it under the rug because it was a kids show. Dwayne McDuffy looked at a bunch of kids and said "Here's your staunchly liberal POV character, have fun" and we fucking did.
The thing is, it’s the flash that keeps them honest. He’s the heart and soul of the team so they’ve already got that covered and don’t really need green arrow but he’s nice to have around what green arrow doesn’t understand is that the justice league saves the world which means they save the little guys.

@@indatube You know they said the same thing about Ezra Miller and the Flash.
Always wondered how Bruce Waynes accountants cooks his books for him to buy all his stuff
I just found this channel and wow your essays are incredible, brb gonna study you like theres no tomorrow loll
Is always cool see a video talking about my boy Ollie
The one fault this video has is not showing GA singing his theme song while sliding into battle.
This Green Arrow was great. I loved it everytime he is on screen.
When he was calling out Supes, I was 100 percent there. Y'all get mind controlled on the regular, so yeah having some kryptonite around is a good thing.
thanks for making this video! smiled alot throughout the whole vid
Man, I gotta tell you, this was a video!
great video essay. green arrow has always interested me more then hawkeye because he exists in a world where the most popular and apparently not superhuman character (batman) also exists. this video shows that ollie is a way to give a human perspective to those that are the gods amongst men. thank you
That speech was hard ASF
As off topic as it might sound, I really appreciated how this show didn't shy away from Ollie's politics. The show has episodes with political themes, but Green Arrow is the only character in the entire show who straight up identifies as a "leftie".
I myself am not a leftie, I'm not really sure what I would classify myself as, but Green Arrow is one of the very, very few characters in comics who's political leanings are integral to who he is as a character, and I really appreciate that JLU didn't try to dumb it down or sweep it under the rug because it was a kids show. Dwayne McDuffy looked at a bunch of kids and said "Here's your staunchly liberal POV character, have fun" and we fucking did.
now guys, i think this might just be a video. Jokes aside, I always love listening to your video essays while I'm playing video games.
Wow this video is so well made!!
Green Arrow was definitely one of my favorites in JLU
Lmfao! The old switch and...bate 😏
Thanks for the video.
Thank you for that spit take
yea can we get more hot guy talks
i watched one episode of the justice leage and Green Arrow was already my favorite character
Waited till the end for the real reason. But the video was informative as well
The fatal five
And then he shoots a man with a boxing glove arrow, coolest shit I've ever seen.
the ending caught me off guard haha
Its so crazy how i was watching this last night 😭😂❤️ its a great show
The thing is, it’s the flash that keeps them honest. He’s the heart and soul of the team so they’ve already got that covered and don’t really need green arrow but he’s nice to have around what green arrow doesn’t understand is that the justice league saves the world which means they save the little guys.
I love this version of ollie
Best version of Green Arrow.
(goodtimeswithscar voice) hotguy!
I understood that reference
5 Years in hell forged me to become what this city needs, I have to become SOMEONE ELSE, I HAVE TO BECOME SOMETHING ELSE 💚 🎯🔰
I’m glad someone put respect on my favorite comic book character. People talk way too much crap about my dawg Oliver Queen
an archer of that calibre has to have pecks and back muscles off the charts.
