- I am all about improving my golf game with new technologies. So, when I saw a chance to do that with my putting I purchased the new Wristlock putter grip from SuperStroke. I love the idea and concept, but I had my questions like, "So do I need a longer putter shaft?", "Does the shaft go all the way to the top of the grip?". I answer these questions that I had and many more in this video.
Exactly what I was looking for. They should make this clear on the site. Appreciate your efforts.
Always glad to help!
So glad I found this video. Going to extend my putter shaft using this tutorial. Thanks!
So glad it was helpful!
Great video. Tubing cutters work great for cutting shafts down too.
Yeah! I was too lazy to go to the store but I did read and see that online. Highly recommend anyone doing this get the pipe cutter.
This is EXACTLY the info I was looking for on this grip. Thanks! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I was in the same boat! That’s why I made the video. 🤘🏻 Glad you found it useful!
Soon to be thirty years ago I fixed my own invented armlock putters this way, since there were no other putters available!
Thank you so much. This is exactly the answer I needed.
Thanks for making the most perfect video that I was looking for 😂
Absolutely! I knew many would!
I was looking for a vid to show what direction the wrist lock bump faced before installing mine. I was also concerned about the putter basically becoming shorter with that long grip. The extension idea had floated around my head so when you said it was a .580 extension I just jumped to Amazon and ordered it. Came back to finish watching the vid and was kind of relieved to see that your putter is the exact same one I am regriping, lol.
That's awesome! haha
Great tweak, thanks für sharing!
You’re absolutely welcome! Thanks for watching!
great video as I was wondering the same. How does this work with a countercore weight installed?
That I don’t know. I never had the counter weight but should be perfectly fine. Still the standard shaft end on the putter so shouldn’t create any issues.
Great video - thanks for sharing. I've been looking into armlock putters --- my understanding is that the face angle is slightly different when getting these longer putters. Any thoughts?
That is correct. When you armlock putt you naturally force the shaft of the putter forward causing you to “deloft” the putter face. To adjust for this, all I have done is moved the ball slightly forward in my stance. Works great!
@@gortmanmade7277 same, also gets you hitting on the upswing and gets ur eyes down line leading to better launch conditions and optical alignment
Ahhh, good to know because didn’t want to start bending hosels. Great video!
Big problem, you need to increase the loft on the putter to compensate for the forward shaft lean created by the the arm lock grip. I am not aware of a way to increase the loft in a putter.
Not necessarily. I started putting the ball further forward in my stance to account for the wrist lock angle. Worked just fine but could be an issue for some if you keep the ball in the middle of your stance while putting.
Thanks for doing this video.
Absolutely! It wasn’t there when I needed it so I figured let’s help the people!
This comes 2 weeks late for me… need to bend over a little more than usual now. First round was uncomfortable, but then I was rolling it on a putting matt to learn how to grip it the right way. Feeling good, but I wonder if putting with an extension would be more natural for me? 🤔
Haha that’s unfortunate! It probably would help a little but there isn’t really an exact science. Many tall people like short putters. Many short people like long putters. Just find that happy medium for you!
Did you have to remove the counter balance weight in your shaft? I have a stroke lab and I have the weight in the shaft end. Still trying to figure out if I need .580 or .600 for my stroke lab.
I did not have a counterbalance weight in my putter so no issue there.
The exact question I had, thanks very much
Absolutely glad I could help!
I stand corrected. I was thinking arm lock. Hope it's working for you.
No worries at all. It really is the identical concept and purpose. It worked pretty decent but I haven’t seen any improvement. But I am also a 20 handicap currently, so not the greatest player either.
Thanks for sharing, I was wondering the same thing!
Exactly why I made the video! Thanks for watching!
Very important points
Year later, are you still using this grip. Did it help lower your "putting scores". Thanks for making the video. (Just bought the grips, didn't come with instructions)
So I sold the putter after a few months, not because I wasn’t good with it, just changing things up to a mallet. I think it helped keep wobble out of my backstroke while putting. I now go speith style and do left hand low and it’s helped me dramatically. But the wrist lock was a good help too.
Pipe cutter works great trimming a steel golf shaft.
I started just using my miter saw but you are correct, would be a much better solution to not dull down my blade!
isnt the loft of arm lock putters higher than normal putters?
Sorry if I am mistaken or confused ?
Best Wishes
I am not certain if it is or not. It may be for some brands but many people convert non-armlock putters to armlock. What I did was move the ball forward in my stand to ensure the delivery of the putter head to the ball with some loft.
Hey great video, thinking about doing the same. Saw some of your comments saying your using it higher onto your forearm area. Where in your stance is the ball placement? And how far up on your arm are you placing it? Was looking at the evnroll midlock putter but then saw the price. Thanks great job.
So I put the ball in what I would call the front middle of my stance. That enables me to maintain the natural Putter loft and make contact with the ball on the rise of the putter head. Seems to work pretty great. I started anchoring it to my arm because I just felt a little more comfortable and I actually enjoyed having my hands at the bottom of the grip with the top of the grip midway up my forearm. It may not have hurt to have 37 or 38 inches for the shaft, but 36 was not too bad for me and I am 5’11”.
Thanks for the info dude, definitely gonna try it out. If you said the ball position was at your lead foot i would have been hesitant. I to am 5'11 and have my putters shaft length at 35 , think I'll take your word and add another 3 in to make it 38.
@@jonathanprice3024 Yeah! That’s a safe bet. I think you will like it. You can also have the putter loft adjust but that’s just too much for me haha.
@@gortmanmade7277 Thank you so much for your great video. I'm looking to achieve Xander Schauffele's way. Anchoring on my forearm instead of on my wrist. ua-cam.com/video/jOrUFIU2-Qg/v-deo.html
Any recommendation? thanks
@@TPM188 What Xander does is actually what I started doing as well. Felt more comfortable and natural. I think it’s always worth a try, though Xander is already back to a regular grip this weekend for the open haha
A lot easier to glue the extension in, then chop off excess shaft length. 😉👍
Wisdom beyound your years! haha Thanks for the tip. Too true.
You are delofting your putter, although not as much as with arm lock, the wrist lock will still do this. Locking the putter on the forearm means that the face angle needs to be adjusted to compensate. For example, arm lock putters have approx. 7 degrees of loft.
For sure, or you can do what I did and move the ball forward in the stance (about drive alignment) and hit up on the ball just fine.) Still get the loft and hit it on the up stroke. 👍🏻
How is this grip working out so far?
It works great! I am loving it. I do use it slightly different than how it is marketed. It is a “wrist lock” grip but I use it further up my forearm which is much more comfortable for my wrists. Same idea and influence on the putter, just slightly different execution.
@@gortmanmade7277 Thanks for the update!
Legend thanks
Now your putter loft will effectively be 0-1 deg because of the wrist lock grip and you won’t be able to roll the ball properly. If you apply this grip you also need to add ~2-3 degrees of loft.
Indeed. Which is why I moved my ball position a few inches further forward. It obviously works because a handful of tour pros use this grip. Not sure if they are fitting their putter with more loft, moving the ball forward or what, but lots of ways to roll the rock. Not terribly complicated!
Didn’t see you try it......... :(
Nope! Plenty of videos of people trying out the grip on UA-cam. I just wanted to answer some questions I had and show the extension/install process I did. 👍🏻
Evnroll midlock putters are 6" longer than standard when using a wristlock grip
Good to know! They must use longer shafts in that model then! The extension definitely doesn’t come from the grip as I learned.
Farther not further (unless you're from the UK).
Nice video, report back how you like it.
Absolutely! I have one round under my belt with it and I have to say, it's different, but I like it. I like that my mind is out of my swing technique and more in reading the line and aligning the club face. Also, this is a new putter for me too, so I left quite a few short with the softer feel compared to my old White Hot putter. Definitely a fan so far!
Reporting back 5 rounds into using it. I love it. I do use it as an armlock now rather than wrist lock. The wrist lock just wasn’t as comfortable to me, but the concept is one in the same. It’s great!
@@gortmanmade7277 I actually bought 1 for myself, I liked it but wasnt 100% on it, I ended up picking up a flatcat with the metal weight on it and liked that alot better. wrist lock seems awesome in theory, but putting is something you really have to feel what's comfortable and the wrist lock wasn't 100% there for me
@@EasternNCSportbikes Exactly. It is such an art and to each their own. No one size fits all!
@@gortmanmade7277 haha im back again thinking about trying the wrist lock grip again but using it as an arm lock, I keep switching putters I have scotty camerons, bettinardi, new spider EX, pings, ect ect I just cant find my groove. Are you still using yours?
I made the mistake of not watching this video before buying the grip wish I had of watched it as I wasted money like he says to get the wrist part of the grip to actually touch wrist or forearm you have to grip right down on it or forward press it quite a bit delofting the putter
Yep, I resolved the issue by moving the ball forward in my putting stance. Worked like a charm with no issue.
They're called armlock putter grips and they're designed to rest against your forearm with the top slightly of just below your elbow, not against your wrist. They effectively make your left arm and your putter shaft a one piece unit. Just adding length to your existing putter and installing an armlock grip is not the end of the story. When you set up with this method of gripping the putter, the putter rests parallel to your left arm and delofts the putter face. This will cause a descending blow to the ball driving the ball down into the green causing the ball to bounce or hop right off of the putter face. You will need to have the loft on your putter adjusted to compensate for this new putter face position. You may also have to adjust the lie angle. I suggest that if your wanting to try this method be fit by a competent club fitter so that all of the specs are correct for you. If you don't take these points into consideration you may not get the results you were hoping for and may actually putt worse.
Thanks for your comment! While I get what you are saying, this is in no way an arm lock putter grip. It is wrist lock. It’s quite literally called the wrist lock putter grip. What I ended up doing to make an adjustment for my mew forward shaft lean was move the ball forward in my putting stance. Have me that loft on my putter face back enabling me to be slightly coming up in my stroke at contact. Worked great. Love it!
Wrist lock putters has higher loft than conventional putter head you are using. Good luck in squirting offline.
No issues here my friend. Moved the ball forward in my stance while putting and still deliver the putter with proper loft. You are correct, that if you don't adjust your stance at all with a standard putter you will deliver less loft on contact. You fail to acknowledge that the only time the loft matters is at delivery which is an adjust able place in your stand, just like with driver, just like with irons. It's no different putting. Move the ball forward, get more loft. Move it back, get less loft.
