Pixel 2 vs Pixel 5 vs Pixel 6 - Camera Comparison

- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- Hello everyone, thanks for checking out my video. In this video I took the three pixel phones that I own and pitted them together to see which one had the best camera performance. Surprisingly they all looked virtually identical in most daylight scenarios. Low light is where the pixel 6 truly shines yet the other two definitely held their own.
Please let me know what you think about this and if you had similar results or expectations. I think google kind of hyped the new camera too much and my expectations for the pixel 6 were too high. Albeit, google overtime can adjust and tune their software for the new cameras and I really think they will make it much better with updates.
I will make another video covering quality in RAW photos and that is where the gap between the pixels start to show the most. Pixel 6 has a lot of potential based on the quality of the RAW photos so if you have experience editing RAW then I would, for the time being always leave on the RAW+JPEG setting.
Thanks again. Please like the video if you found this helpful and subscribe to catch my future comparisons.

My Pixel 2 is my everyday point & shoot (no videos) and thanks to this video that'll be the case for a while. Thanks for the comparison
glad you enjoyed it, yeah i would still be rocking my pixel 2 if the battery would last more than an hour. it still takes amazing photos and in some cases beats the newer devices.

I still have a pixel 2 xl, was thinking about upgrading to pixel 6 for the camera. I don't see it being worth it now. Thanks for the comparison video!
Me too 🤣
I went from pixel 2xl to the 6pro the camera way better especially if you know how to use it .
Pixel 2 owner here so really appreciate the comparison. My battery seems to be holding up OK. The main reasons I have for getting a Pixel 6 would be for wireless charging (USB C connector's not very positive on my phone) and having the latest OS.
Yeah that is the main reason to upgrade. The pixel 6 camera is good but the Google camera software is powerful and can keep even older phones looking new.
I ordered pixel 2, and it will arrive by or before 4th Aug 2022. I loved the custom from support, its cheap for 180 USD/14k inr(brand new nor refurb), only phone that will give me OIS camera and best camera in smartphone at that price. Moreover, its waterproof for such a price it is a steal. Processor still holds up better than any midranger in that price segment.
According to many comments, the P2 still kicks! I have the P4 and the same color P6 seen in this video! The photos among the phones are all the same, except the P5 has a little bit more color. It would be interesting one day, to see the P6 compare against a future P9 and a P10, there will be plenty of P6 survivors by then.
yeah pixel 2 is still the Champ considering its age
Thanks for the video. I am an happy Pixel 2 since 2019 and it's still great as the first day in every department. Except for the battery. I need to charge it at least twice a day.
While the Pixel 6 does take better photos in most scenarios, I don't see a 4 generation difference between the Pixel 2 and Pixel 6.
I think I'm gonna use my Pixel 2 for another year now.
Pixel 2 supremacy! I loved pixel 2 dearly but my battery was getting very bad so i had to upgrade. I still have it as a nice collector item though :D
@@slyfox8900 my battery was down too, I was able to swap it myself with a DIY iFixit battery replacement kit. It costed me less than $35
@@youcancanyou did that happen to completely erase all your data? thats what prevented me from wanting to do a battery swap
@@slyfox8900 As a preventive measure I had taken a full backup, however the phone OS remained as it was, it was simply like restarting a phone. However, while the battery replacement is doable, I would like to warn you that it is difficult and there is risk of breaking the screen or damaging the oled underneath it. I watched ample videos of the process on youtube before hand and followed the iFixit tutorial very deligently. The screen adhesive was much stronger than I anticipated.
@@youcancanyou appreciate the advice!
Pixel 6 being sent back tomorrow after a week & back to my 4 year old Pixel 2, which even which is all still original, still has better battery life... I thought it was just me but this video has confirmed, it's a superior, more intuitive device.
yeah, it was prob the best pixel in my opinion. Thinking to get my battery replaced so i can still use it for photography.
Great video! Love to hear your thoughts on why you think the pixel 2 is the best pixel phone, because I agree!
I moved from pixel 2 to pixel 3 to pixel 4 , and I noticed pixel 4 comes out blurry when there is motion and there is a lot of auto white balance issue , pixel 2 didn't have both these issues. Also pixel 4 is sticky in terms of motion metering and auto focus , In terms of taking quick pictures of kids, cars , pet, pixel 2 is still a beast.
P2 has loads of issues with AWB. Images are often way colder than they should be, especially when the light is very warm, but it's not a landscape scene (like a detail interior shot during the golden hour). P2 was I believe the last one to use laser AF and I guess this is why it's so snappy... Unless you're trying to take a photo through a window ;)
My wife's phone broken so I gave her my Pixel 2XL and decided to buy a new phone for myself thinking: "hey, any phone will have a better camera than the phone made 5 years ago, right?" So I bought Samsung A52s and wow. This phone's camera seems like an Aliexpress toy for kids. So I decided to give the phone to my mom and buy a Pixel 6 instead. But after seeing this video I have mixed feelings again. Is there a phone with a better camera than Pixel 2?
From a pure software output to JPG I don't think so. Google has changed how they process their images so much that I stopped enjoying taking photos with my pixel 5 cuz of it.
My advice though. Get the pixel 6 and enjoy it for what it is. You can also shoot with raw capture on and the photos from the pixel 6 in raw, look absolutely amazing. It's a clear idea of how bad Google's processing has gotten cuz the raw shows the true capabilities of that camera with googles software.
There is. I was at the wedding last year, shooting virtually the same scenes with my Pixel 2, newest iPhones and Pixel 6 and 6 pro. My 'old phone' was giving them run for their money but it wasn't the case of it vs the iPhone 12 any more, when I wouldn't even consider the Apple one after shooting in the same conditions with both. Especially in the more demanding scenes like portraits in front of the sunset P2 was showing its age. And that's before mentioning additional features that you straight up don't have in P2.
Great video and comparison❤
Just had my Pixel 2's battery replaced and it feels like brand new. Battery, security and software updates are the only reasons why I'm considering an upgrade.
Yeah thats also a drawback of keeping an older device. Some apps even stop functioning if not updated and they can't be because they require android 12 which pixel 2 doesnt support I think.
How long are you getting sot on your pixel 2 now?
@@garrysutcliffe6254 Barely an hour if i recall. It dies very quickly these days. Im using my pixel 5 though, the pixel 2 is in retirement.
I would Like to keep using my Pixel 2. But No Security Updates are pushing me away. The Phone would be able to run A12 imo
Great comparison!! Well done. 👍
Thank you kind sir. Appreciate it!
Thats why i like my pixel 2xl
I went back and looked at some of my older pixel 2 photos and im still thoroughly impressed by how good that phone was.

Опередил свое время , мне камера pixel по-настоящему понравилась начиная с pixel 3. В pixel 2 присутствовал зеленый оттенок в ночных фото, особенно при слабом искусственном освещении
my p2 xl so far so good, I don't intend to change. feel good all time! very stable.
Reinforced my belief that I should not throw my pixel 2 for newer updated phones at this moment.
Yes you should simply for software update and security.
Trust me the pixel 6 blows all the other pixels out.
@@nicholasjames8576 if he's in the market for a new device for these reasons them yes
@@nicholasjames8576 overall yes but but photos alone the other pixels are more or less the same except for extreme low light.
@@nicholasjames8576 Agree, pixel 6 would be much better, but i am contented with pixel 2 performance for now and atleast for 1 year more. Technology being too short lived, would not go for upgrade until pixel 2 is really not able to cope up with my expectations. There is option of custom ROMs also that i am yet to explore.
I ordered pixel 2, and it will arrive soon. I loved the custom from support, its cheap for 180 USD/14k inr(got brand new, refurb would be way cheaper), only phone that will give me OIS camera and best camera in smartphone at that price. Pixel 2 is a small cute device. that fits perfectly in hand and gives that old nokia back + htc retro look with dual front firing speakers. Pixel 2xl is basically the same, smaller bezzel, idc
I agree, also pixel 2 had the best speakers I've ever used on any phone that I've owned.
I just got a google pixel 2 and cost me just 55$ dollars 4/128gb used like a new
Imagine having a amoled screen and great camera with sd 835 cpu 4gb ram 128gb rom
A big steal
Keeping it for my in instagram pictures
Brilliant, Andrew. I have a Pixel 3 and I am not in a rush to upgrade it. Pixel 2 is a fantastic camera. Any new pixels are same or marginally better. Shows no innovation on the part of Google. The camera team quit Google 3 years ago. So its all recycled software. Thanks
I was going to keep my Pixel 2 for one more year but then came that last sample. That green cast plaguing over the Pixel 2 (and Pixel 5) shot under low light is exactly why I hate taking photos at night time. It literally invents colours. The white balance is terribly messed up! The Pixel 6 shot looks better and I presume it gets rid of that bizarre white balance issue that all the prior Pixels had.
Walmart has the Pixel 2 for $100, that's insane
Right now? Lol is that a marketplace seller? Has to be
Watching on my Pixel 4 XL
Pixel 2 have better white balance and skin tone, looks like a classic camera
My 2xl pixel video shoots disgustingly, you can even forget that such a function exists. But the photos in most cases are excellent, after processing in Lightroom they turn into masterpieces and iPhone owners constantly ask why I take such beautiful pictures.
Very very cool! The differences are second to none in almost every shot. Now I get why Google took so long to upgrade de sensor: it doesn't make a lot of difference lol
That was quite surprising to see all of these side by side and anyone looking to upgrade because they thought the camera was going to be that much better, should probably look at other reasons why they should upgrade their phone
@@slyfox8900 exactly!
Oh wow. Watching this on P2. I'm looking for a replacement as my battery has started to deteriorate and I can't find any phone repair shop that would replace it for me :( The phone is still ok when I'm not out shooting for the whole day though and seeing this, I'm questioning myself even more.
I had the Google pixel 4xl now using the pixel 6 i love Google phones 👍🏾🔥
I do to, I love the features but personally I feel google needs to up their quality control on the newer devices seeing how a lot o reports are saying pixel 6 is having issues. I hope yours is running smooth.
@@slyfox8900 thanks. I've had no issues with my Pixel 6 my experience has been great
there you can see that the cameras of the Pixel devices were perfect from the start. I would still be happy with a Pixel 2XL if I had one. eg. the Pixel 2XL still has a much nicer screen and clearly better main camera than e.g. the xiaomi 12
Gotta pixel2 and I'm sticking with it
Oh I still have my green pixel 2 in a drawer . Still works , although its battery isn't brilliant!
Pixel 2 und Pixel 6 sind am ausgeglichensten.Das Pixel 5 hat bei Nachtaufnahmen einen Grünstich!
1:50 Me watching the video at 720p.
lol
Cstark group - Pixel 6 takes better photos than 2 and 5. Especially at night plus low noise, and definitely more detail during day.
Definitely true. In some cases the pixel 2 focused better and produced a sharper photo but overall the 6 has the chops to be a truly great camera once google spends time tuning the software for the new sensors.
The Pixel 6 Pro uses far too aggressive luminance noise reduction and color noise reduction. A Pixel 3a in HDR+ enhanced mode + high brightness setting can deliver much better colors than the Pixel 6 Pro without Night Sight + high brightness setting due to the aggressive color noise reduction. Even the selfie camera of my Nexus 5x in HDR+ On mode can outperform the Pixel 6 Pro selfie camera in low light conditions (Night Sight turned off) due to the aggressive color noise reduction. In perfect light conditions I prefer the Nexus 5x main camera (HDR+ On mode) as it doesn't suffer from aggressive luminance noise reduction. In some cases, the raw files of the Pixel 6 Pro seem to have many more artifacts than a Pixel 3a.
The angular resolution of the Pixel 6 Pro main camera is slightly worse than the angular resolution of the Nexus 5x HDR+ On mode main camera in perfect light conditions and this is also what one would expect.
In low-light conditions without Night Sight, the Pixel 6 Pro occasionally doesn't seem to combine frames anymore. There is simply no time to combine a lot of frames, if the exposure time per frame is 1/3s. The noise performance of a Pixel 6 Pro HDR+ raw file isn't necessarily better than the noise performance of a 3rd party app single frame raw file with the same exposure time.
Just stop it man the pixel 6 is the best pixel phone period, and the best phone of all.
Lol I never said it was bad
Nice video AF
Thank you!
you saved me a lot of money by this video. will hold on to my pixel 2xl a while longer.
Camera alone would not be the reason to upgrade. It should be for the increased amount of ram, the 5g, wireless charging, battery life and security updates. If you can snag one on sale or used for close to what you paid in 2017/2018, I'd do it.
Yeah i agree. I just wanted to debunk the belief for some people that the newer hardware doesnt mean better photos. Pixel 2 is still one of the best smartphone cameras of all time in my opinion. Google's Visual Core ISP did wonders for that phone.
i didnt feel much of upgrade
Yeah the software is really doing wonders for those older devices
I don't like pixel 6 light ..pixel 2 camera is very nice natural light. Pixel 6 is whitish light
Pixel 6 is very inconsistent right now with its images I find that i get some images that blow me away and some that make me want to return the device.
Really very similar
Great 👍
Thanks!
I want google pixl 6 vs 3xl comparison vedio
I don't have a 3xl on hand or I would. However I can say with confidence it'll look very close to how the pixel 5 looks. Especially if you install a modded google camera app. Thanks for watching
Literally 0 difference with my eyes, just that one has better software than the ladder

My pixel 2 camera died. Maybe I will get the pixel 5 for unlimited photos. Active Edge will be missed

Yes I agree. There's no denying the pixel 6 shoots sharper photos in most cases, however it's very inconsistent. I had the moments lens for my pixel 2 and it too shot amazing photos. I will prob buy a moment case for my pixel 5.
How did you get that. I also want one for pixel 3
All look the same to me
