@@03chapin31 In the beginning of Karate Kid 2(1986). He told his teacher/Sensai that he was sick after he broke his runner up trophy. That's when he actually realized his Sensai evil side.
The first scene truly shows how messed up emotionally Johnny was as a kid.he had no father figure in his life only a mean and cruel karate teacher who Manipulated his students into his way of thinking
Bobby is the voice of reason throughout the Karate kid movie and deserves alot more credit than he got. Bobby wasn't as wild as the others, his karate was controlled and smooth. He might have beaten Daniel if Kreese had let him fight his own match.
If he had beaten Daniel would Kreese have still been pissed at him? And guess what, if he had beaten Daniel then Daniel still would have made it to the semifinals (top 4) and even that would have been enough respect to end the bullying problem. This is especially true for when he was facing Johnny. had he lost to Johnny he would have made 2nd place and beaten all of the cobras other than johnny (to boot a very close 2nd place winning 2 of the 5 rounds had the crane kick failed). So in any case the bullying problem was over. Miyagi basically said that when he told Daniel that he did not need to keep fighting that he had nothing more to prove. He had already earned enough respect to solve the bully problem.
@@Zurround that's an excellent point. Clearly most of the cobras at this point were beaten and Daniel had proven himself to them. I think with Daniel it wasn't about winning the tournament but proving he wasn't going to run away from them no more
Bobby was also the runner-up in the previous tournament. I wonder if he represented a different dojo at the time, or if it was an all Cobra Kai finals.
I love that first scene here and wish it stayed in . . . Daniel starts off almost friendly over their issues, focused on the paper. He makes a great point and Johnny agrees deep down, but can't handle it emotionally. It makes his turnaround at the end where he hands him the trophy all the more understandable.
Plus the looks he gives kreese when he tells him to sweep the leg.. wish they kept Daniel calling out kreeses behaviour in. Adds to Johnny's trauma, and how he was just manipulated into behaving the way he did
Even though Karate Kid is a legendary movie by itself, Cobra Kai has truly made this already awesome movie even better. That first scene plays so well with what we've learned about Johnny in Cobra Kai's four seasons. Johnny's angry reaction to Daniel's questions shows Johnny's realizing Daniel's correct analysis. Johnny just couldn't handle the truth. The seeds of doubt for his sensei were already planted in this scene.
That last part when Bobby threw his belt down, I'm a Martial Artist, that is the ULTIMATE insult any student can do to their Sensei, that is saying "What you taught me is SHIT"! that spoke volumes to me.
Its almost a continuity error that Bobby is hanging out with Johnny and his buddies shortly before Kreese brutally abuses Johnny because he was not part of that "gang" anymore since he quit the dojo and you would think that he would never want to see Kreese again and being out in the parking lot that might happen.
@@Ipromiseyounobodyismadit's Cobra kai , people see only 1 season of Cb now they say Daniel was the real bully . Sure Cb pointed out Daniel's flaws like how he could have ignored Ali and Johnny's argument at the beach but he butted in anyways and how he sprayed the og Cobra kais with a hose , but that didn't give them a reason to bully Daniel
The first two deleted scenes certainly give us more of Johnnie's character. For the sake of the film, I can see why they weren't in the final cut, as they show Daniel fighting back more and trying to reason with Johnnie, but in order for the film to work, we need to see Daniel as the beaten down underdog. Also Zabka's performance is not up to par. In context to Cobra Kai, however, this is invaluable and I like how they used the lunch room clip in the recent season 4.
Johnny was NOT happy about Kreeses dishonorable actions. I think if Johnny had beaten Daniel he would still have shown good sportsmanship congratulating Daniel for a close 2nd place and the bullying problem would have been over. I also think Johnny would have quit the dojo due to the very sad circumstances that led to his closest friend quitting and being so unhappy about Kreese's dishonorable actions. I have a fantasy "alternate universe" ending where the crane kick fails in some way "maybe JOhnny blocks or dodges it or the referee declares it illegal as there was some controversy about the legality of that kick) Johnny is about to be declared the winner by the referee and Johnny silences the man before he can declare him the winner and he tells the ref about ordering Bobby to cripple Daniel and ordering him to sweep the leg which could have caused permanent damage as the leg was already broken and Johnny asks to be disqualified and the ref agrees and gives Daniel the win. And Kreese is so furious about that that he attacks Johnny immediately and not out in the parking lot and Miyagi is right there to restrain him then the security guards put him in handcuffs to await the police. Ally is so impressed with the honor and sportsmanship Johnny showed that she forgives him for all of his transgressions and runs up to him and plants a big kiss right on his lips then jumps into his arms and they end up getting married and having a family together.
I can see why some of these scenes were cut. The first one makes Johnny 10x more psycho sounding, than his normal anger at the heat of the moment. And Daniel's extended screaming about his leg at the end (even though that may be more reality of what would happen) makes his character look way less strong than what he was built up to be.
Yeah, totally agree with this. It’s much better to see Johnny as a cool guy, but who can suddenly switch to being cold and mean - a guy you could actually imagine people being friends with, but they’re always a little scared of him. Better this than have him as a merciless psycho who derives joy from inflicting pain, rather than a guy using violence to try and maintain some sort of control on his out of control life. I’m glad they took this scene out. It’s too overdone and makes Johnny look weak.
I think it wasnt left because its not a good angle. There is a similar scene for Miguel in Cobra Kai and it was WAY better executed. In this deleted scene you can barely hear Daniel. The scene goes for too long, and you cant even see his face.
Daniel's feminine screaming should be no problem. Cutting off the sound and overdubbing it with less intense and more manly-sounding moaning, would fix it.
The funny part is, Johnny tells him that his mother has to sign the papers so Daniel can fight with the big boys, but the actor that played Daniel is older than the actor that played Johnny.
daniel was an italian american kid from friggen Newark that grew up in the 70's/80's. Those kids were tough, street smart and didn't take shit from anyone. It gets him in trouble in the film, but that's the way he was brought up. Glad he was able to kick some ass in the tournament.
I always love how he was tough and ready despite being weaker and unskilled (at least early on). Yeah he lost but every time he took them on and that always stuck with me.
Realistically, he wouldn't have made it far in the tournament. Those other kids were far more experienced, and Vidal, Bobby and Johnny were ex-champions.
I agree with you. It bothers me to no end how people spun the story to make Daniel the antagonistic one. And I'm reading this thinking to myself, "Have they never met anyone from New Jersey???"
@@Lucas-bv1ps Agreed, Why he did try and fight back in part 3 against Mike Barnes, his skills were nerfed so badly between the 2nd and 3rd film. He should have at least been able to get some hits in other than the one at the very end of the film.
That last scene shows even more how confident bobby was in his skills and having some form of compassion regardless of being Cobra Kai. He even says he can beat Daniel before Kreese tells him just to injury Daniel and get kicked out , and I'm sure that deleted scene would have made it more obvious And on top of that he's the one who kind of defends Daniel Halloween night when the others want Johnny to keep going. He's not a saint but he's not a psycho or violent without cause
I love that they used the deleted scenes in season 4. Wish there was a joke about that Johnny: The hell you talking about LaRusso I don’t remember any of that… 😂
I gotta give my respect to Daniel for not cowering and letting them push him around to an extent. like he actually fights back and almost beats their ass too, pretty impressive.
Fun to see these scenes. Shows you how critical an editor is to a film; has to be so selective in using scenes that define characters and their relationships while maintaining the pace of the film.
For real. I watched "Apocalypse Now Redux" which is Coppola's director's cut with an hour extra running time and it turns the movie into an excruciating endless bore compared to the theatrical cut.
that first scene should not have been cut. It shows Daniels maturity now that he has Miyagi. And it shows how karate lessons not only help him fight but better his mind as well.
Yeah but it doesn't really work because it makes Johnny look just too dark of a person and evil just for evil's sake and I bet it was cut not because how it makes Daniel look, but because how it makes Johnny look. Missed opportunity for sure to humanise Johnny a bit more and bring his side of the story and motivations to light. That could have brought even more depth to the whole story.
It's interesting how Johnny goes from flippant to furious the moment Daniel even suggests that Kreese might be a less than decent guy. Shows conflict in him, that he maybe already had the idea himself but didn't want to admit it.
It was also nice of Johnny to bring over his piece of blueberry pie as a gift for Daniel. You can't blame Johnny for being angry when Daniel disrespected him by sitting on the pie and smearing it on his shirt.
@@kaldemvor Yeah, that must've been why Johnny deliberately put the pie on Daniel's seat, laughed and mocked Daniel for ruining his only pair of pants and not apologizing to Daniel.
Its a great scene, because you can see that Johny is starting to doubt himself and gets angry because he does not want to admit it. And the locker kick is pretty hard to execute, they should have kept it.
The scene with the pie is disposable and unnecessary, but the scene in which Daniel asks Johnny about his motives, and the one in which Bobby throws his belt at Kreese, should absolutely not have been cut. They are hugely important scenes, because they show that their bullying behaviour is not who they really are, and they allow the audience to have a better understanding of the characters, as well as the hold Kreese has over them. Also, it further disproves this nonsense about Daniel being the bully, simply because he refuses to just sit and take it.
@@LuisAngel-mu4zv it would still exist that way they never said johnny was in the right in 1984 they're simply putting a grey area and fleshing out the bullies of cobra kai johnny isnt a bad person but misguided and had a horrible person as a father figure not to mention he grew up with an abusive stepfather
It's crazy how well Cobra Kai's fleshed out Johnny's character, he was such an archetypal 80s bully in this film. I suppose just like with real life, you never know what's happening behind closed curtains.
It's interesting to watch the series and then go back and watch the first movie. Things like Johnny's anger makes more sense when you know how his home life was with his stepdad being a jerk. It adds depth to the first movie for sure.
0:35 That expression, right as Johnny closes in on Daniel - sadness, fear, disgust, anger, hurt, and ... loneliness (?) - all mixed together. It is true that there are no bad students, only bad teachers.
I find it funny how Johnny, after the whole pranking Daniel into sitting on some food, once he gets food smeared on his shirt, he takes like 3 short, quick breaths like he is about to cry lol
@@MiguelRodriguez-dk2ds Fits in with the retcon of his stepdad being a dick now that I think about it. Daniel doing that would've made him feel bad and disrespected like how his stepdad would dismiss him. It probably triggered him.
Yeah, all of those people saying Daniel was the bully are clearly trolling or tripping. Cobra Kai is awesome and it has made Johnny a great character, but to say that he was the victim is going too far.
@@user-is7xs1mr9y Well Johnny didn’t have the best upbringing either, and actually neither did Daniel, but Johnny had a rich daddy, so he was spoiled, and spoiled people usually act narcissistic.
These scenes are great! Especially the first one... you can tell Johnny Lawrence if a very troubled kid and takes it out on Daniel. His erratic behaviour isn't normal.
@@DrOrr No. Unless Hawk messes with Johnny. Johnny used to use what Kreese taught him, which was no mercy as his way of dealing with things. Yeah, he was a bully, but he did what he thought was the thing to do. He didn't have anyone else to teach him. He even shows a little regret. Just pay attention to how he tells Daniel. "Well maybe it's because I want to." Before all that, he didn't care about Daniel. Even with this, Daniel was worse. Typically, it would be Johnny in most cases who was the bully, but there are times in the movie where Daniel would harass Johnny for no reason. And Daniel wasn't taught that it was ok. He knew what he was doing.
@@AlexFeri9348 didn't Johnny push him off the hill shortly after seeing Daniel in his dojo. I was always under the impression that he regularly bullied Daniel.

@@Rrr_558 Yep. In the 80's there was a "Dojo" playset that was REALLY cool. It had spring loaded doors with tracks where ninjas would pop out of and stuff like that. I had it and it was a great playset. They made figures too and I had those as well.
2:16 they should have kept that maybe it could have been retaken but they should have kept it the raw emotion and pain in Daniel’s screams plus Bobby’s hurt face at 2:22
They did have the scene in the movie where he says I'm sorry Daniel I'm sorry. But yeah I agree that was a nice moment when he threw the belt down and quit they could have left it.
@@patrickkavanagh7371 hell even JOHNNY looked at Kreese like he was insane when he said "sweep the leg, do you have a problem with that??!". Then the reason Kreese got so angry in the parking lot was because Johnny grabbed the trophy and handed it to Daniel after the match and said "you're all right Larusso!". I think that seriously triggered Kreese. It was really nice seeing Bobby and Tommy and Johnny back together in season 2. They were all good men now and express great remorse for their dishonorable actions of before. The part where Tommy is at the campfire and tells Johnny he still has time left in life to go be a better man really got to me emotionally. Especially since Tommy does the next morning and Rob died in real life shortly after that.
That first one and the last one were two HUGE SCENES. The last one totally fit Bobby's character and struggle that I didn't get as a kid watching the first movie but DID as an adult. And the first with Daniel and Johnny actually would've given Daniel far more likeability though I get it being deleted because it was over the top with Johnny - but if they dialed it back for him, it really would've struck with the series. Can you imagine if they used that first scene as a flashback in season 1 of Cobra Kai? Every fan would've said: "I don't remember that" and debate it's authenticity because clearly, it's them when they were kids (relatively speaking).
I agree and clearly the more Daniel would stand up to him yet be respectful too, the more Johnny would embrace it. Had they simply smoked the number together instead of Danny spraying the hose on him, they'd have made peace much sooner.
Johnny was very hothead and didn’t know how to control his emotions but he wasn’t really a bad person deep down inside. It was really Kreese influence that was screwing him up.
@@StepUpMedia039 Sure, smoke a numbre with the guy that pushed you down the hill for no reason...And of course it's Daniel's fault for almost getting seriously injured over a bit of water. What are YOU smoking?

It’s such a great show, feel it is under appreciated.
I got to admit that couple of deleted scenes were so funny and messed up at the same time. Never thought I seen Johnny and Daniel talking to each other at school. Ali was trying stop Daniel but one of Johnny’s friends grabbed her and pushed her, kinda funny.
Wow. Really should’ve kept these in there. Daniel screaming shows how much pain he was really in and Bobby throwing down the belt explains quite a bit.
I can see why the first two scenes were cut, they make Johnny look less intimidating, and they didn’t really add to the story. But I will say, it’s great to see more Johnny and Daniel screen time, and I always wondered where the stock photos of the first scene came from. I wish the last one was left in though.
It's so weird to see the two of them alone, just talking for a moment. I know Johnny is still being his usual aggressive self, but they're just having a conversation and you don't feel intimidated by him.
Johnny’s taller than Daniel and whenever he’s bullying him he calls him “Runt” and “Little twerp” and “Worm” and other demeaning shortie names. But the funny and weird thing is in real life Ralph Macchio is 4 years older than William Zabka 😂 so technically Johnny is the _real_ “Little twerp”
Well you are confusing size with age. If you go by the age of the CHARACTERS as opposed to the ACTORS then Daniel is almost 2 years younger than Johnny because he had his 16th birthday just a few days before the tournament so he was barely sixteen years old when he beat Johnny but Johnny was pushing 18 and this was his last chance to defend his title for the under 18 division. Daniel was a year plus several months (not sure the exact number) younger than Johnnny. Almost 2 years is so much growth and development time for a teen that even if Daniel had been a black belt himself at the beach scene Johnny would have had the advantage (but would not have won AS easily).
@@Zurround At the higher end of the teenage years it is very possible to beat someone two years older than you, if you match them in skill. If you are higher than them in skill the chances increase alot, the main issue is in reality, the weightclass. You can be 16, 5'9 and still weigh 170 pounds, while the 18 year old is 6'0, and also 170 pounds, now while this is not probable, its very possible.

Could you blame Bobby though? It may be the ultimate insult, but Kreese didn't give a damn about the tournament.

"Also Zabka's performance is not up to par" what do you mean?
@@Guamparrapo83 It's a bit exaggerated and phony. Think Terry Silver. Just my thoughts.

@@EvilDick1995 or as good as in cobra kai
@@Pazuzu82 oh his acting in Cobra Kai is on a whole other level than in The Karate Kid.
The scene of Bobby quitting would have been a nice tie-in to Johnny beginning to see the light, too.
I have a fantasy "alternate universe" ending where the crane kick fails in some way "maybe JOhnny blocks or dodges it or the referee declares it illegal as there was some controversy about the legality of that kick)
Johnny is about to be declared the winner by the referee and Johnny silences the man before he can declare him the winner and he tells the ref about ordering Bobby to cripple Daniel and ordering him to sweep the leg which could have caused permanent damage as the leg was already broken and Johnny asks to be disqualified and the ref agrees and gives Daniel the win.
I´m totally agree, but still Jhonny wouldn't have quit anyway because of the resentment he had with Daniel over Ali.
And now perhaps it's Kreese's turn to see the light, as "friend" Terry Silver betrays him
I can see why some of these scenes were cut.
Director for leg scene: he's supposed to be a fighter, not a soccer player!
I think it wasnt left because its not a good angle. There is a similar scene for Miguel in Cobra Kai and it was WAY better executed. In this deleted scene you can barely hear Daniel. The scene goes for too long, and you cant even see his face.
I think that first scene was cut because it's super gay. "Maybe because I like to" yeah just admit how obsessed you are with Daniel, Johnny.
Daniel's feminine screaming should be no problem. Cutting off the sound and overdubbing it with less intense and more manly-sounding moaning, would fix it.
0:04 this is the most they ever talked without killing each other
The funny part is, Johnny tells him that his mother has to sign the papers so Daniel can fight with the big boys, but the actor that played Daniel is older than the actor that played Johnny.

Finally the deleted scene from the classic franchise is posted. I’ve been hearing a lot about this deleted scene and been searching for this for a long time
johnnys voice is so high LMAO
It was likely cracking.Billy's voice is a bit deeper when he briefly cameos as Jack the boyfriend of Audrey Grizwold in European Vacation
0:55 Johnny Lawrence hates disorder and closes the locker for everyone's safety. What a model student.
1:24 that laugh caught me off guard 😂😂😂
RIP Tommy that laugh was fucking gold 😂😂😂
Like woah hey who invited the Joker
"só deus sabe como tá a cabeça do paiaço"
Boy, I watched this movie as a kid back in 2010 and I gotta say, I sure would have loved to see that part in the movie as a little kid. WTF why the hell was it deleted?!? This movie legit helped me stand up to whoever would fuck with me as a 4th grader.
JOHNNY: You gotta get your Mommy to sign the application for the under 18 Karate Tournament
DANIEL: Yeah, but you're under 18 too, so you had to have your Mom sign yours
JOHNNY: ..........You win this round, LaRusso
🤣🤣🤣
Funny thing is ralph macchio was in his 20s during this scene lol.
It's crazy to think Ralph Maccio is four years older than William Zabka in real life.
