For a second/third look where you use v-flat, you can set two v-flats with narrow gap between, and shoot throught the gap. That way wou will not be visible in her eyes and also you will avoid extensive flaring of the lens.
Great learning, nicely paced explanation and very approachable - I've got a ways to go before I get to studio set up territory, but it's so nice to have Emily showing these principles, they feel more within reach.
Amazing job. What a great a talent. The one with lighting from the side and make a good reflection on the model shoulder and hair is my favourite. Even without any editing process, the raw photo is absolutely georgeous.
So many photo videos only show us the retouched images. Really appreciate Emily Teague showing us the unretouched images to compare and to really see the quality of the light in each set up.
I love how Emily really explains things she preferred more and less when constructively criticising her stills. In a way, it widens my eyes to see areas in which I can improve and venture... Thnk you Emily!
Wonderful! I really appreciate not only the way you have explained the setup but also the way each affect the catch light/lights in the eyes. IHG Tommy
This video is exceedingly helpful. Love the tutorial. And, the model...OMG...she should be an actress. She exudes mystique and a playful smile that's awesome. My goodness! Thank you both for this video.
I'm a little late to the game in seeing this video, but a couple of comments: 1). You referred to the Elinchrome umbrella as 'cheap' whereas I (and probably Elinchrome) would refer to it as 'inexpensive'. In my mind there is a difference. 2). Lots of portrait photographers are caught up in the catchlights. Is that really that important? Perhaps that shows someone who is more of a technician vs an artist. Hmmm, I'll have to think about that... 3). The shot @17:25 was killer! 4) Gorgeous model, gorgeous model, great walk-thru explanation. Thanks for sharing!
Good point on using the word inexpensive instead of cheap. I will throw out I actually worked at Elinchrom as their Global Community Manager for years, so I'll have to slap my own wrist for that one ;) For catch lights- some of my favorite images in my portfolio don't show catch lights, so no- you don't always need them. A lot of what I'm teaching is general "rules" / suggestions. And of course all rules can be broken. Your subject will usually appear to have more life in their eyes with catch lights than without thought. Thanks for the kind words & comment!!
That's great. Adorama you encourage women photographers by brining them to this channel. Great initiative. We already have Lindsey, Vanessa and now Emily. Would like to see Dixie Dixon, Lara Jade and many more.
I gotta say Adorama knocks it out of the park with these videos!
So happy to hear that! :)

I agree with you, she is very beautiful. I really love her eyes.

another great video... my favorite shots are those with lights reflected off her hair and shoulder with back lighting!
That's great to hear, thanks! :)
Fantastic!!!
Thanks Allison!
Great job showing a nice variety of shots with an umbrella.
Good refresher courses with umbrellas, will take pictures this week and next week. Great work Emily and team.
This was fantastic. Gotta save this video. I learned a lot. Thanks.

Love the simplicity of the lighting, yet beautiful results. Having a beautiful model helps too.
Definitely doesnt hurt having a gorgeous model on set ;)
Having a 600€ strobe, too.
One light setup. Nice
:)
Having a single colour makes things to look more beautiful.
I really like monochromatic scenes :)
Beauty in subtleness. It's close to having black and white where we eliminate the colours.
Can you please do a black and white session ?
As always, you walked through each setup perfectly! Thank you!
Thanks for always putting a smile on my face, Alex! ^_^
Awesome video, thanks for the tips
