It was written in the novelization, Godzilla did see him but did not attack Shikishima because he did not view him as a threat. He reacted to the unexpected spotlight and gunfire with hostility for obvious reasons.

Probably the first reaction video I've seen where the reactors acknowledged that Noriko didn't run in the Giza attack because she was in shock, instead of just complaining about why she's not running.
Also. "This will not be able to become news, you people will become news" has to be the best comment I've heard on the reporters standing on the top of the building.
It honestly drives me up the wall whenever reactors complain when a character clearly in shock isn't running (I've stopped watching some reaction vids especially when the reactors go on and _on_ about it too). This also applies to when the crowd in Ginza were watching Godzilla charge up and when Noriko pushes Shikishima into the alley:
1) I mean, come on, there's this giant dinosaur-like creature that starts glowing blue and they weren't expecting basically a nuke attack so of course a lot of them would be watching in wonder like it's a _god_
2) I admit, I too was thinking she could've shoved herself into Shikishima into the alley, saving the both of them, but in that split second, she probably could only act out of her instinct to protect the person she loves. She's not some quick-thinking superhero.

Minus one is a love letter to the 1954 original. 2014 was the first in a series that is a love letter to Godzilla's later adaptations in Japan. Both are faithful and amazing and totally different. This one is more of an allegory for nuclear war and legendary is more for the unpredictability and uncontrollability of nature.

Thank You for your support for the film. it only got 50M Revenue for the entirety of its runtime in US. We loose fighting in this culture war Grace Randolf label this film as a FLOP her metric is arguably is based on fact it did not even pass 100m for its entirety of its runtime. It seems that US Audience supports mediocre films. T US will kept having shiity or mediocre film AND will at least generate 300M

It was great seeing the contrast for their reaction, the American movie where G was a benevolent creature for restoring balance, then the Japanese one where it is a creature forged by atomic weapons and is driven by destruction and hatred. This is the only Godzilla movie where I’ve cared more for the human characters.
It’s nice having the different types of godzillas on modern screens, like you said minus one is just a badass, human vs zilla type thing, then we have the American version where he’s super intelligent and protects earth, both are great in their own ways

I was born in 1964 (not that that really has anything to do with anything), and I grew up with all the Godzilla movies and loved them all. the scariest one I ever saw at the theater was Godzilla vs. The Smog Monster (a.k.a. Hedora). In the mid 1980's I served in the Navy and visited Japan a few times, and of course, knowing the history between the U.S. and Japan since WWII. and considering the relationship America has had with Japan since then, I was always struck with the Godzilla movies; how Japan used Godzilla as a metaphor for Atomic/Nuclear weapons at the beginning, and how Godzilla eventually became an ally with Man as he fought against other Kaiju (especially Hedora; as a metaphor for pollution) in later movies. and since the first ever Godzilla movie, Americans not only love the movie(s), but also cheer for Japan's victory against any kaiju that attacks them. Only those geniuses at ToHo could think of the idea of using such a destructive force as atomic weapons, and turn it into a "monster" for them to deal with!
And something else: this Godzilla's atomic breath was such an unexpected surprise! not just his breath melting whatever he uses it against, but CAUSING an atomic explosion with it himself! Fantastically done!
Totally agree and this Godzilla gives a whole new meaning to the term ATOMIC breath! As far as I'm concerned, having watched all the Godzilla movies as you have (born in 1961) this is the only version of Godzilla that seems to have ACTUAL atomic breath.
I'll say it for the record.. 15million$ budget this..... 160$million Godzilla 2014... how ?
Please allow me to correct one incorrect comment you made. Godzilla is the world's first original KAIJU movie, produced and released by Japan's Toho in 1954.
Did you see the bruise on her neck at 39:32? Those are Godzilla cells. She may have been exposed to the atomic bomb and infected with Godzilla cells. Godzilla cells saved her body from falling apart, but we still don't know if it was a good thing.
Also, she's not the real Noriko because the girl isn't happy about it.

Saved her, but not by not letting her body fall apart, but by regenerating her injuries, lost limbs. She was blown to pieces.
I'm thinking instead it is going to be a short happiness, as the exposure to radiation in the blast gives Noriko cancer that we see spreading up her neck.
This is the real terror at surviving the weapons of the atomic age the Godzilla film legacy was always about.

Were our friends briefed about WW2 and the lore of Kamikaze? I believe it helps a great deal in understanding the main character's mindset and feelings. Plus a knowledge of Japan's military philosophy and war atrocities helps explain the mindset of the Japanese citizenry, which continues to this day. There are several direct connections between 'Minus 1' and the original 'Godzilla.' (1954) Much of the music is either taken directly or adapted from the original, which also featured a very similar attack on a commuter train. The reporters on the roof of the building are a callback to a group of reporters who were broadcasting from the top of a radio tower and were also killed in the first film. Judging by the rate at which Godzilla is visibly regenerating down there, he could be back by the end of the week. I guess the hope is that he goes dormant.

2:49 - Would you shoot a giant God Dinosaur if it was right in front of you when its both not attacking and without certainty your weapon would do anything?
4:05 - Nah, he was right not to shoot, there not certainty it would work and Godzilla only attacked when it was provoked first. it was even noted the novel of the movie that Godzilla saw him in the plane but left him alone cause he wasn't attacking.
4:25 - Nope, the fault lie wholly with the idiot who shot Godzilla first provoking it, Godzilla would have just left them alone if they simply hid and waited for it the leave.
4:29 - The amount that got themselves killed.
10:29 - He does, he's just hesitating due to being insecure.
12:04 - There on a wooden boat, not exactly a lot of option.
12:39 - Oh they did hit, the blast only annoyed it though.
12:49 - PTSD.
15:15 - Because it needed to heal after using its beam, if you look at its face before it leaves it has burn marks.
18:42 - And this is one of the smaller Godzilla's.
36:55 - Awesomw shot right there, like a raging sea god about to deliver judgement.
39:46 - Despite this the director of the movie says theres no plan for a sequel, at the moment anyways.
I mean the plane would have hurt it a lot because it's the dinosaur form
Also, I hope Godzilla Minus One will get at least one sequel because unlike Shin Godzilla, they can do anything to this one. I suggest that they can make sequel like Godzilla took ten years later or something to fully healed and come back to Japan.

The woman at the hospital is not the same Noriko as before. Akiko is not happy to see Noriko again. The Noriko she met before died in the blast. The woman at the hospital is a fake Noriko, regenerated from Godzilla's regenerative cells. The bruise on her neck is proof. Akiko notices, but he does not.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in America so America bombed Japan. It's why we entered WWII. We stayed out of it until we were attacked. Lines of young men enlisting went for blocks everywhere. My grandfather, a first generation American, fought in the Battle of Midway. I still have his dress blues with his medals.
