- Tutorial Description
This is a tutorial for Ableton Live 11. It is presented by Lorne Bregitzer, an Associate Professor for the University of Colorado Denver and an Ableton Certified Trainer.
This is designed for musicians just starting with Ableton Live. It is created to get people up and running and making music as quickly as possible. This is an alternative to books that are poorly written or do not present a logical workflow.
In this video, you will learn how to use your computer’s keyboard (alphanumeric) as a MIDI input device. This will allow you to play your own chords and melodies without having to use an external MIDI controller. You can also use this to program drum beats.
These videos include a Tour of Ableton Live, Clips & Scenes and many other topics. This series is free and developed to supplement my university electronic music courses.
Self Note: For anyone struggling with no sound using the key board, he forgot to mention to arm the track. When its armed and you still have no sound, use the x or z key to correct the the octave until you have sound.
im trying to put midi drums into a track and i am getting a midi response when i hit the keys i get no sound still :(
@@Kutomaru1 make sure the track is armed. Once it’s armed and it still doesn’t work, the drum track is probably in a different octave. So go to the screen where it shows the drums grid view (not the midi view where it shows the piano keys) There’s a column of grids next to the individual drum sounds. When you press the keys you should see an orange blinking light in one of those grids. press z or c until you hear drums. X= octave up C= octave down . I ran into the same problem and that seemed to work for me.
@@jfunky8721 yeah that worked thankyou. I was trying that earlier but I kept going pass the sweet spot lol.
@@jfunky8721 ty so much
thanks mate!!!
So helpful. Great tutorial. Thanks!
Very helpful and iformative! Thank you very much
This was really helpful! Thanks!
Thanks man! Really helped me
this fiture is amazing
Finallylylylyly Best tutorialss!!!
Great video but why can’t Ableton have it to theres a graphic representation of a keyboard like they do in logic
Exactly! I thought from his video and the images in some articles that there was an on screen keyboard, so you can simply play the keys like a piano. A good reason for Apple to launch a touch screen Mac or iPad with MacOS. Garage Brand solves this problem of course, but us not quite Ableton Live in functionality!
It’s indicating that it working but I can’t hear any sound
i need this. thank you
great explained by audio professsor
Best tutorial ever.

Great. Thank you.

good explanation, thanks... Is there a way to use a computer keyboard or a mouse button at the ground as a sustain pedal ? My music keyboard does not allow pedals, so I want to use ableton to make the trick... thanks

Does anyone know how to record with the midi keyboard? I've got it all set up like this but when i hit record it just stops picking it up.
@TheRealAudioProfessor hi sir, i was looking to see about how to control the drum rack through the keyboard as a midi controller. 3:52 Im a newbie, and i was looking through your channel but i wasnt sure. Any advice would be grateful appreciated.
Is there a way to set it up as a midi control surface inside ableton? I was testing some iOS synths i came here for that reason as I didn't wanted to go grab and setup my dedicated midi kb haha
question: what does it mean when in the top right hand corner - only one of the boxes is blinking?
context: my korg kaoss pad is connected korg midi out -to-> midi-in on a midi interface, i can assign dials to ableton but i want to use it to trigger notes.
Where is the video he said would show you how to use the keyboard to make drum tracks? I can't find it anywhere.
Please help, my beats won't work this way but synth and other instruments do. I see it sending midi signal, but not in main fader.
hey! Is it possible to change the note up or down in the midi keyboard. I know you can change the octave by pressing x or c but can you do that with just notes. For example, if the L key is the D note, can you make it the C note?
use midi effect "pitch"
Even tho im chaning the octave, no change can be heard when i play on my midi keyboard???? Help please
Hii could you please do mastering and mixing in Ableton
I have a great popular mastering video. A mixing video will be out in the next month or so. ua-cam.com/video/HnQ8qEk4910/v-deo.html
my biggest issue is trying to record a sequence because of the latency (regardless of what buffer size or sample rate I use)
That depends entirely on hardware and how it is configured. On Windows or Mac, you're stabbing in the dark until something works. On Linux you know exactly that you're doing it wrong. Any platform you use, work out the bugs especially latency. The clicking will go away when you dialed it all in correctly.
im getting signals but no sound someone help
me too, did you figure it out?
@@julien2196 nope
having the same problem, arrghhh why cant i just be an expert already
probably you figured it out, but for others watching - need to engage the red button that says that the instrument can be played basically - is next to the S (turns blue when sollo engaged)
being honest keyboard piano keys of FL studio is far better that we get whole 45keys of computer's keyboard to use as piano. Unlike ableton where we get far lesser keys to use as piano keys.
totally agree, and no need to change any settings, everything works just fine right from the beginning
Whenever I hit a key it plays like a C8 note, super annoying. plz help
z/x keys will help
;)
Can we just say that why do we need the massive bloke taking up all the screen yeah. Im tryna do my ableton god damn.
lmao
