Ran DeWalt for the last 7 years, last Xmas I bought m12 drill and impact and I honestly don't pick up my DeWalt drivers unless I'm running large fasteners or tapcons. I have since bought both m12 oscillating tools , the shop vac, and tire inflator. Couldn't be more pleased
I’d have to say the quantity of sandpaper wasn’t weird. 3 grits and 3 of each is how you get to 9. At least based off of what you said it comes with. If it came with 4 grits and they sent 9, yeah really weird. But to me not so much as it is now.
You got me again!! Lol I already purchased the home plate sander looks like I am about to order this one as well. I use the other one all the time so I am sure this will be good use for me in my shop.
Home plate and a 23g pin nailer. Two best tools Milwaukee has made. Minus maybe the cordless ratchets. I’m a hardcore dewalt boy. But I’ve been trying to convince the wife she needs the home plate sander for her paint department so I have a reason to add M12 batteries to the garage so I can get the 23g pin nailer instead of dewalts monster
What I love about Milwaukee, they include a hose adapter, unlike DeWalt. I bought a DeWalt sander and it would not connect to the various adapters I have. So there I was ordering a DeWalt specific adapter. So annoying.
I hear you. I used a 1.5 to 1.5 Fenco from the plumbing department to attach my DeWalt sander to my shop vac. Works really well, but it is annoying to have to bring a screw driver with me to attach and disconnect it.
@@DaDarkDragon I'm with you. Though, I don't find it annoying. I really enjoy grabbing my calipers measuring up the inlets and outlets of my stuff, Fusion360'in something up real quick and printing it. Brings me joy. I'm weird. lol.
Exactly why I'm not buying another DeWalt product. If anyone knows where to get the correct adapter for the 735x planer and the big shop vac from them I bought it would be appreciated. Lol
Great Video. I just got and used my combo 3-inch Random and Detail sander last week. You should definitely use the larger batteries for sanding objects on a workshop table or MFT and the 2.5 when sanding cabinets and molding at or above your head to reduce fatigue.
I love the other detail sander since it can reach into corner and i found another use for it. I put a white pad and use it to apply odies oil. Lack of air suction works in my favor for that. I was able to apply finish more evenly and without the elbow grease. Loved that!
Good morning 🌅, That looks like a great tool, if I was still working for my self I would definitely purchase one, now it would be just wall art 😂, along with my Mafell, Festool , great review,
Similar to the Festool RO 90 with 1 big difference... Looks like no Rotex mode, which is very awesome... If you have the money go with the Festool... I did pick up the "home plate" detail sander though and love it.
The new sander is random orbital and the older one is just "orbital" that means the pad doesn't also spin. The spinning action is intended to give you a less swirly finish and will remove material faster. If you don't need the pointy pad the new one is the way to go for all of the above reasons
I'm not a wood worker. But ... this was an incredible video. After watching this now I think I can make about anything. Seriously, good video and thank you for taking the time to show these. 👍
Good to see Milwaukee adding that vac hose connector. It's taken years and years for some tool companies to get onboard with dust collection connections on their tools. It's like none of the enginerds who designed their tools ever stepped on a work site or in a wood shop.
That light probably comes in handy to rack it on the piece to make sure You’re getting a good sand job 😮. I’m using your link to get one. I CANT WAIT to add this to my collection. Probably my 7th sander I use now
Good morning 🌅, 😂😂😂, quite a few years ago I purchased the Milwaukee heated jacket, which comes with that small little battery, it is quite amazing how long that will stay charged, plus I have at least three of the other batteries as I have two other lantern lights, plus I’ve got the big torch, I was helping out at the instant a few years ago, and the authorities were very impressed with the torch, from Milwaukee, as it can be operated as a floodlight a spotlight or combined spot and flood, and if you really want to go OTT, if you press the button button button in and hold it, it goes into strobe mode, 😂,
Matt!! Check the video at the beginning it has a back to back repeat clip at around 1:30. I thought it was my internet at first. Otherwise great video. Milwaukee fan here. I’d have to add them to my Christmas list. 😂😂
Nine is not a strange number of sheets, it would be far more strange if they had included 8 or 10. There's 3 grits. Nine is a multiple of 3. Eight is not. Ten is not. There could have been 12, I guess.
I love the "home plate" sander. The lack of dust collection is a sore spot. At least it's not kicking up a lot that I can see anyway but it would have been nice to have a way to attach a hose. The 3" disk sander is on my wish list. I think you need more than a couple seconds for a flash warning. That's not a lot of time to react to avoid it if you're sensitive to it or annoyed by it.
I have the home plate detail sander for the same reason (catch all trays) - it looks like I'm going to ask Santa for this new marvel... if I can hold off a few months! 😂
The thing I love about Milwaukee tools is the way they feel in the hand. Very sturdy and easy to handle. I love cheap tools for their purpose, but quality is mint. 🤌🤌🤌
Yes now I need the three inch orbital. Love the companion? Where can I get the guitar template? It's the perfect size for something I want to make. Sorry I'm new to woodworking at 53 and really like it.
The homeplate sander looks good. The flash light? Heeeh. Guess I like those Free Harbor Freight blue flash lights. There good for about 3 battery changes before the screws wear out in the plastic case. They have a magnetic back that will stick to metal and a swivel hook for hanging on shelf's or the buttons on your shirt.
I whole heartedly agree Matt has to be an even number. and also there are many cat, and DOG. lovers out there have you thought about making Paw print catch all tray's.
A (close) cordless version of the Festool Rotex 90 at a lower price! But I hate *investing* into yet another battery system when my workshop is full of yellow and black tools! It doesn’t have the RO 90’s triangular pad for corners and tight spots and the different sanding pattern optimized for it. So you’d still want the “home plate” shaped pad on the additional Milwaukee detail sander which doesn’t have dust collection. Also missing is no additional Rotex functionality on the round pads for rapid stock removal. There’s a question if the smaller diameter 3” round pad would start to dish a surface where you sand unevenly or vary the pressure. The Festool RO 90 is slightly larger by 1/2”. The smaller diameter pad is probably a limitation of the cordless motor that has less power to conserve batteries. Hmmmm. I like the new Milwaukee but it’s not as multifunctional as the Festool. The Festool has a cord, but you’re still tethered by the dust extraction hose and auto on/off with the dust extractor anyways. Since I don’t like compromising 0:30 I’m leaning towards the Festool RO 90 but am cringing at the $525 cost + around $250 for the pile of specialty sandpaper in (2) different shapes (Round and Triangular). “Buy once cry once”?
I love my Festool Ro 90. I have like 7 festool sanders and that is one of my favorites... I did get the little home plate sander though and like it a lot.
This is a nice addition. I just wish they have higher grits. I love my detail sander, but the lack of higher with the mesh sandpaper is the only downside.
99.9% of woodworkers will never understand the benefits of having a BIG compressor. I've had a 3M 3" random orbital sander for years and it's one of the most convenient tools I've got. There is no way to compare pneumatic sanders to electric. One thing I can PROMISE is if you ever try them you'll never buy a electric sander ever again.
They should of made a pad interface on the new one so it could accept both the triangle pad and the round pad... so you get the best of both worlds in one tool.
I wish it was powerful enough to strip peeling paint. Have to stick with my metabo 3" corded sander until someone makes a powerful enough battery operated 3" sander.
Not that I am aware of. I know that Mirka has a similar sander, but it's upwards of $700! Festool has a corded version that's about $525. Also Metabo has a small sander corded that's about the same price as this sander.
OCD? 3 sheets of 2 and 4 sheets of 1 would drive my OCD nuts! I'll gladly take 9 🤣 Thank you guys for the work that goes into this and your deal texts!
@xjimtayx That's if the holes line up on the pad. There is A. Company that makes sandpaper for festool that is cheaper i prefer the granat though. Festool makes the best paper imo. Just used 47 pieces of 40 grit on a porch
Milwaukee is killing it with these sanders, especially the Homeplate version. The major problem these brands have is that once you've purchased one of their cordless tools, you're committed to that brand (unless you have money to burn, or a VERY unique need for a specific tool). When some genius creates a universal high-quality batter that fits any of these brands, or an adapter that allows it, then we'll have reached the pinnacle of woodworking. Till then, I'll settle for a straight 2X4, which apparently is equally hard to find.
Hello @phillamoore157, there companies that make adapters for all the major tool brands so you could technically use one battery platform for multiple branded tools. Not sure if their performance is less when using an adapter, but it is possible to run.
@@chadfallon3378 Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I’ve seen some of those. So, far they’re the cheap Chinese adapters, that can’t be relied on, or worse yet, hurt the batteries themselves. You won’t find a quality adapter due to all the patents. Just too many hoops for a legitimate product to jump through, unfortunately. I can’t whine about DeWalt…their tools have treated me well. But, it’s also disappointing that their R&D seems WAY behind Milwaukee’s, at least on some levels. And, the problems I’ve had with their batteries failing, apparently have happened to all the companies. With Lithium, you have to use them, they can’t just sit on a shelf, or they’ll stop holding their charge. I had that problem with two $120 batteries early on. Thankfully, I haven’t had that issue in quite a while. So, for now I’m stuck with the ol’ yellow and black. 👍
In a couple of clips it looked like the sander was tough to balance. Like at 5:58 you’re only sanding on the back half of the sander - guessing due to the weight on the back end, making it hard to balance perfectly. Thoughts?
I just don't get why you would want some tools like a sander cordless? You've got dust extraction hose connected to it, so it might as well be corded, with no batteries to go flat, etc 🇦🇺
I have a Makita 18x2 tracksaw, which is quite reliant on dust extraction and it doesn’t even fit my Makita 18v cordless vacuum 🤦🏻. Neither came with an adapter either. How can we expect a universal vacuum size when a large company can’t even work it out, not only with their own tools but on the same platform (18v)?
Milwaukee is trying with this sander but fails. 3'' pad with vertical space needed off the chart with huge handle hanging off it. I see no place for it for me maybe if I sanded walls or something the handle and overall design would work but so would a 5 inch of any sort beat it. Idea hang the battery on a belt make the unit turning the tiny pad as small and simple form as possible. Then you will have a tool that sees a place doing work in tight areas always the worst to sand.
I have been waiting for them to release a 3" random orbital for the longest time, I hate needing an air supply to use my 3" pneumatic sander. I do not care about dust collection and wish the sander was the same compact size of their 3" orbital sander, this one looks too large and bulky.
It's actually not... For getting into small spaces Milwaukee 2531 > Festool DX93 (discontinued but still very good) > RO90. The Rotex function on the RO90 is also very versatile for polishing applications.
Not seeing what's so game changing here. Including some sanding discs should not be considered an extra mile - that should be expected with the price of these tools. The fact people have accepted not getting them is the sad thing - people need to expect more in products from companies.
Howdy Mr. 731... Another cool video. You have definitely found your Nitche in tool reviews. I think it's cool that some of these companies are making smaller sanders for "Detail" work. That being said...They are still Bulky for what they are and the "Micro" battery for whatever reason costs just as much as a regular battery. What's up with that? And let's not forget the weight of it all. So, all in all, it's still a bit clunky IMHO. Now, you know I've been watching you for years now, even met ya and The Mrs. and had both of you Autograph my Dewalt sander....Now...all that being said.....I've noticed that you haven't done any Tool reviews (at least none I can think of atm) about DREMEL TOOLS. Why is that? I highly recommend you look into a tool by DREMEL called The Dremel VERSA. It's a tool that fits in the palm of your hand, literally. Orbital disc. Multiple applications but typically designed to be used with a scrubbing pad of various grits AND, it's USB chargeable. NO BATTERIES. No cords and the charge lasts a fairly good time. I haven't charged mine in months and still has power (I just checked). Though this tool is designed for, say, scrubbing dishes or the sink or bathtub.....The pads....with an inventive mind (me), you can toss on some sandpaper OR, while keeping the pads attached, you can wrap a soft cloth around those pads, add a rubber band to hold in place and now ya got a MICRO BUFFER. Add a bit of bees wax and Viola... I know that you aren't much into the micro tools too much...Don't even know if you own a Dremel....But I do believe that you are leaving alot on the plate by not diving into the Dremel line of tools. After all, you are always asking for "Tool Review" ideas. You could make LOTS of videos discussing Dremel tools and accessories. Anyways....Go get yourself The Versa at very least. Try it out.
Oh, idk. Doing window trim all day and that little guy is sweet for getting into tons of 90 degree corners. It's paid for itself a lot of times over and made me swear less.

Is the paper three or each grit?
yes it is
In a couple of clips it looked like the sander was tough to balance. Like at 5:58 you’re only sanding on the back half of the sander - guessing due to the weight on the back end, making it hard to balance perfectly. Thoughts?
he was showing the dust extraction and lifting the front on purpose
I have both Dewalt and Milwaukee this kinda sounded like a "as seen on tv" with how extra it was in segments. But wait there's more...
So Milwaukee made a cordeless Rotex 90 wiithout geared mode?
They should have made the pad smaller!
I just don't get why you would want some tools like a sander cordless? You've got dust extraction hose connected to it, so it might as well be corded, with no batteries to go flat, etc 🇦🇺
Milwaukee is clearly been watching festool
Yup. Looks exactly like the 90mm Rotex.
@@JWill6969 They forgot the bumper, though. And the small Rotex is a Delta sander too...
Theyre both TTI subsidiaries, so...
@@Smokeyr67 No it is not. Festool is completely different and owned by TTS. The same company that owns SawStop.
I just wish they made it able to swap pads for the triangle shape.
They need to make a battery powered RO 90.
Welp all ima do is pray that dewalt dosent disappoint with the next thing since i got ten of there batteries 😂
Sandpaper--3 each of 3 grits=9
Have you seen the Makita verstion of it thats 18v
I haven't seen that one.
@@731Woodworks its DVP300 lxt
9 pieces probably for ease of cutting them out from bigger pieces - 3 x 3 rows
Milwaukee is trying with this sander but fails. 3'' pad with vertical space needed off the chart with huge handle hanging off it. I see no place for it for me maybe if I sanded walls or something the handle and overall design would work but so would a 5 inch of any sort beat it. Idea hang the battery on a belt make the unit turning the tiny pad as small and simple form as possible. Then you will have a tool that sees a place doing work in tight areas always the worst to sand.
Adding the word home plate sander to my dictionary.
My work here is done. 🤣
Why such a small sanding surface?
It's a fine detail sander. It's not meant for sanding large surfaces. It's basically a festool 90mm Rotex
Small or tight spaces.

I have been waiting for them to release a 3" random orbital for the longest time, I hate needing an air supply to use my 3" pneumatic sander. I do not care about dust collection and wish the sander was the same compact size of their 3" orbital sander, this one looks too large and bulky.
It’s like a Rotex 90, but not as versatile. The Rotex is basically both of those sanders. But costs more than both.
It's actually not... For getting into small spaces Milwaukee 2531 > Festool DX93 (discontinued but still very good) > RO90. The Rotex function on the RO90 is also very versatile for polishing applications.
This video was very interesting and there is actually a specific reason for that but…. We will talk about that later….
Try it out.
Those detail sanders are so sweet. On the other hand, they are priced 3X their worth.
Oh, idk. Doing window trim all day and that little guy is sweet for getting into tons of 90 degree corners. It's paid for itself a lot of times over and made me swear less.
3 x 3 = 9
UA-cam will not allow me to open the links?? Is it cuz I'm Canadian?😢 lol
not sure why that is happening
It is not OCD..it's CDO. It must be alphabetical 😂
9 letters in Milwaukee
3x3grits=9
9 --1 for every letter in their name “Milwaukee”
I'm so sick of Milwaukee and the high prices, Festool Jr.
Can I use this for car detailing?😂
yeah, probably so
