100%. I thankfully have a stand alone Genesis dealer within 15min of me so it wasn't a concern when I bought my G70. But that is the only good Genesis dealer I have been to, all the rest are sleazy and and very very Kia.

Mark is right. I've bought 3 products from Hyundai / Kia; and while I love the cars, the dealer buying experience is irritating. Basically you can still get a good deal at the end of the day, but it takes more work and tolerance. You have to play the dealerships against each other and stay at it. The brand really has to punish dealers that get negative reviews from customers.
@@rosgoncharuk2403 As a former Hyundai owner, you're not wrong. BUT this issue isn't exclusive to Hyundai. I've read plenty of complaints made by owners of cars of other brands who say similar things, including Honda and Toyota. Remember, dealerships are independently franchised.
I used to dismiss the dealer experience part untill I had to deal with Hyundai Genesis service at least 4 times a year for maintenance and warranty issues. This IS actually a huge part and DO NOT pass on that, even if you like the car so much. Once the car is broken - it's those morons you'll have to deal with, numerous times!

The only thing warranty helps you is the cost, but it doesn't prevent the headache of dealing with idiots and careless staff that just gets their hour in. Like Mark was saying about XC90 - what's the point of warranty when the car sits at the dealer for repairs more than it is actually driven? Now add a bad service and it doesn't matter how good the car is. When I was cleaning my car at dealer lot after the hail, there was another owner that came in to check his totalled car that was in repairs. Same g80, but top trim. He said that before this, he had the car back for a week. Previous it was at dealer for two months because they were replacing the sunroof and damaged other stuff they had to wait for. Here's the warranty for ya!

@@bradhaines3142 yep, that's the point. There are so many components & software glitches in cars now that "reliable" becomes more relative. I realized that warranty is just another marketing bait. If the car is reliable - you don't need one, but then why would you buy it new and pay for the warranty you don't need? If the car is not reliable you shouldn't buy it at all, regardless of what warranty BS is attached to it.
So, so right about the luxury vs price point. But i just had my 2023 GV-70 repurchased under lemon law due to transfer case issues. If the dealer experience wasn't horrific, I might have had more patience to let them sort it. I've been to 5 dealers within 70 miles and each was just as slimey as last. Shame as they have such potential.
I appreciate the video, as it was well done as usual. But I also appreciated what you mentioned about the dealership experience. I am in Florida and I can attest to being jerked around and being shown an astronomical market adjustment add on of thousands which, I was told, was not negotiable. The adjacent maintenance facility was overloaded and a mess, and the regular Hyundai and Genesis vehicles were all being sold off the same showroom. They also were offering a laughable trade in on my car, and running from me to talk to the Genesis shoppers (I was looking at the Palisade). I left there and went to Lexus, where the dealership experience is second to none. There were no markups, the price for my trade in was fair (not generous, but fair), and the car value is bulletproof (RX 450hl). I will not step foot in another Hyundai or Kia dealership, especially with how poorly those vehicles resell and hold up. By the way, the value of a Hyundai really gets washed away when they are jacking on a $7500 markup over MSRP.
I have the Advanced eGV70. It's what I wanted in a commuter. Quiet, fast, comfortable. No gas. Looks great. Carries kids and groceries but not too big. I don't care about range, I just commute to work. I'm not driving this at the limit. It understeers too much, too tall and heavy. I have an S2000 for my fun car. I agree, lease instead of buy. I've not had any issues with the dealership but it's still early.

Very nice car im sure, but disposable. Specially with Hyundai/Kias track record, worked as a tech there for 3 years. Also EV batteries lifespan of 10-20 years will total out these EV's from repair cost, or replacing and doubling emissions from production and sourcing materials like Lithium. People will harp on zero tailpipe emissions while charging from coal electric plants, out of sight out of mind. IMO hybrids are the most environmentally friendly new cars you can buy.
I know it feels like a broken record but thank you for mentioning the dealership experience again. I have a good friend who has a 2018 Hyundai SUV and it consumes about a quart every 500 miles but instead of the dealership telling her that it obviously needs a replacement. They just keep telling her it’s normal she’s not trying to do a warranty claim she understands she’s past the time and mileage but the dealership just flat out won’t give her any solutions. I told her to just go to another Hyundai dealership with a nice cheap Prius and trade it in and let them deal with it if they’re gonna be assholes about it.
I am the guy he is talking about, the dealership experience with 2 separate Hyundai/Genesis dealerships, 4 total horrible experiences. I gave one dealerships 3 tries and each time was a different excuse…it’s too bad because the cars are great. Once they iron out the issues and make more stand alone Genesis dealerships hopefully it fixes it
But until then they will keep loosing what could've been a loyal customers. When you realize that Hyundai doesn't care about Genesis experience outside of Korea -- there's no point going back, even if it looks good and shiny. In my case, the new dealership will be done next summer, but it would be all the same staff that I'm sick of from Hyundai barn. Never ever again. Should've bought ES.

@@theday2learnalso, keep in mind that majority of details/parts/panels are made in Korea, so when I had to replace hood and trunk -- I had to wait for over a month to get them through the dealership I despise. There's no aftermarket or salvaged parts, you'll struggle to find anything NATIONWIDE. I heard about that two years ago and dismissed it, like why would I need replacing body panels, right? And here I am, because of shit rear diff noise and garbage cheap dealer. Just don't. Get your wife a Lexus or Porsche - she will appreciate the experience and facilities more.
@@carltonr.7404 Because the charger handle plus cable sticks out a foot from the car. It’s not an issue on the side but on the front or rear, you are effectively making your car a foot longer if you want to plug it in at home. Modern cars are already really big for older homes and this makes it much worse.
I also couldn't park this in my garage and charge it. Some garages are shorter like in townhouses or condos. I have storage units in the garage that utilize every inch, pushing the vehicle right to the door.
Front grill eliminates any possibility that you’re blocked from charging at a public charger. Lots of them have short cables. This eliminates that as a possibility.
Hey guys. The thing is, no one is buying an SUV to drive 9 or 10 tenths. I own a GV70 ice. One of the absolute best cars I have ever had. And I am more than happy to pay $25K less for 90% of a BMW. Not sure I personally am ready for any full EV yet ( petrol head to the end) but honestly for 99% of buyers no one will have a clue. Love the videos and the honesty. Keep it up. Their dealers are among the worst. A couple of years ago I went to check the kia telluride and hyundai palisade. Both gave me attitude when I asked if I could see the vehicle first. This was around the end of 2020 so vehicles were still relatively cheap. They didn't want to sell me the car as they advertised $5k off + 3% interest. They said I had to choose 1 either the 5k off or 3%. But boy would you ever expect a 18% interest rate. I walked out and went to toyota and got 3.8% for xse highlander. Never again I would ever step foot in those dealership nor recommending that brand.
Fair review though went a bit far on the "disposable" point. No manufacturer would put a 10-year / 100K mile warranty on a battery if they assumed they would have to replace the pack at year 9. Yes, first gen Nissan Leafs were disposable, as were every "Compliance Car" EV made to around 2016. BMS and related technology has advanced a lot since then. Yeah, it's for sure a lease instead of a $75K buy But the math changes a lot at $40K when you'll be able to pick up a low-mileage year old used car. And the negative comments about Genesis service departments? This is an EV...no oil or fluid changes, with regen braking, you may never have to replace the pads, so exactly *what* service will this car need? Even Walmart can change a tire or a windshield wiper. This isn't a BMW M series track car, and it wasn't designed to be. Unless you're looking for attention, who really cares if you can't stomp on the accelerator without squealing the tires? So, I'll wait for my $40 GV70 electric and will gladly roll in quiet luxury.
I mostly agree with your review, and things you've pointed out about the Genesis vehicles. Only thing i can't agree about is all the "handling " nonsense. No one is buying a Luxury Branded Genesis to Turn Off all the electronic stability controls, and horse the vehicle around roads like race car drivers. Even mentioning this is strange. Did you have to dig that hard to find something you could pick on? For the driving purests, the suspention and feel you described is exactly what they want, to feel the road, to hear the tires in corners. The car didnt get weard, spin out, fishtail, or anything unusual for someone TRYING to drive past the limits of a car just to prove a point. Seriously... Having owned four Hyundai vehicals, of different types, i wouldn't hesitate to buy a Genesis. The only good point you make, and others have commented on here is the dealership experience. They Suck ! 98% of them , maybe more ! If i had the option to appoint a vehicle the way i wanted via the internet, directly from Hyundai or Genesis i would ! The sales experience is like a 1970s used car lot run by pawn brokers, in dire financial need, with the staff using every old line, and trick, including tacking on thousands for dealer add ons you don't want, and telling you they are mandatory and cant be removed, like they can't take a $35 first aid kit out, or $110 rubber car matt, or $350 roof cross rails ect... Then to, the dealership service is to be avoided at all cost! Even warranty work becomes a never ending runaround for simple things! Their "mechanic staff" are ASE certified dopes straight out of failing school, and have no idea how to service, fix or care for a $50k to $70k vehicle! Hyundai corporation needs to d-certify these dealerships and start over with a new model, and staffs !
I watched another You Tube channel. They stated it cost 60K Canadian dollars to replace a battery pack on an Hyundai EV! It cost more to replace the battery than buying the entire car! Lease not buy if someone wants an EV because the tech is new and ICE has been around more than a 100 years! Also insurance is more, repair cost is crazy sky high.
The genesis gv70 ev great and beautiful, I have driven it in the Canadian winter at -40 degrees and it gives me a range of 380 kilometers, super and super powerful, definitely an excellent EV SUV option worth what it costs, I recommend it
In regards to bad dealership/brand experience there have been two separate cases of Ioniq 5 models here in Canada where the dealerships have quoted over $55k for a 77kw/hr battery replacement put on the owner. They’ve claimed the battery protector panel under the car has been damaged and the battery must be replaced and not covered by warranty. Absolutely nobody in their right mind is going to buy these under those circumstances.
If they drove over road debris the replacement can be covered under insurance. That's an accident. I've seen a lot of cars totalled out by hitting curbs, rocks or things that fell off a truck. It's not the manufacturers fault when you hit something. That's what insurance is for.
This just shows a lack of knowledge and willingness to repair something that can be repaired. To be this sounds more like a broken dealer market then a problem with the cars themselves. Strangely I haven't heard of cases like this here in Europe especially Norway where the amount of EVs is way higher. And as a last point I have to say that a lot of dealers and people working there just don't care for EVs and the new products they have to sell. I went to my VW partner and a sales person started telling me that he hopes to be able to stop working before having to deal with EVs. It's also a question if how much they want to help you and want to learn.

The dealership was not good. I bought a 2024 GV70 gas model. My first service they didn’t see I had pre scheduled around 1 month ahead. I had to find the message. They were supposed to give me a Genesis loaner. I ended up with Hyundai Santa Fe after arguing for 20 minutes. They forgot to put my tire air caps back on, which I didn’t notice until I left. I love the car! But dread the dealership. My Mercedes was opposite. The entire maintenance experience was always exceptional. Granted they normally threw in some additional charges though.
Honest review however I drive a 2012 Nissan Leaf just under 100 thousand miles miles. Never had a problem with the battery pack. If you are buying a Ev would not worry about the battery most manufacturers offer 8 year warranty. The car structure will collapse before the battery. 👍
@@pnouranithe BMW starts at 72k... I'm pretty sure to have to same options you'll be looking at well over 80k on the BMW. And let's be real, the straight line performance will be better in this then the BMW for sure. EVs are just better in the regard and don't have to mess with transmissions and gears and all wheel drive systems and so on

@@pnourani I think the video made clear that handling is just not the thing everybody, even at this price point, is necessarily worried about. Over here in Germany I see a lot of women driving all kinds of EVs and I'd bet they just enjoy the benefits of an electric drivetrain and don't care about the typical dude stuff about cars. So this would perfectly fit as the family car the wife drives in a good income household. Handling doesn't matter when you do your family chores.
we have a '22 gv70 and the service experience is a huge factor for getting rid of it. in socal no loaners, but they'll pay for a rental, but you the customer have to make the reservation, pay for the reservation, and arrange for reimbursement from genesis....yeah no thanks. so far its a good car, too bad the experience is so poor

Love what Genesis is doing. Picked up a used G70 3.3T AWD a few months ago and love it. Thankfully my dealership experience has been good so far. The car had a few things needing addressed and every one of them was covered under warranty. Couldn't believe it as my other vehicles would never have been covered under same circumstances. My only gripe is they never gave me a loaner, only Uber rides. Regardless, many others haven't been so lucky w/ dealers as I have. Fix that and they have legit alternatives to the Germans.
They talk alot here about how it still isn’t a viable competitor for a discerning customer. The driving dynamics are trash. But maybe it can compete against lexis which doesn’t sweat that stuff as much either
Agree with the mixed experience at Genesis dealerships, considering most of them are still Genesis/Hyundai dealerships. FWIW in the SF bay area I've had good experiences at San Bruno, and mid to bad experiences at Dublin and Capitol. I actually leased my G80 all the way down in the Santa Monica dealership because they had the exact configuration I wanted, and they were pretty decent as well.
Hyundai is no longer going to allow Hyundai dealers to sell Genesis cars. They will all be standalone dealerships soon, and very few of them. Hyundai only wants 1-2 Genesis dealers per state

There would a be Hyundai Santa Fe or even a gv80 in my house hold had mama bear not been through such a bad experience at a Hyundai dealer buying a car. Now with her experienceling a Audi dealer I don't think genesis or Hyundai will ever make her a conquest customer. That's despite her liking their products subjectively.
I have one of these. Got it lightly used, fully loaded. '23 model. I share some of the concern about "Gen 1 EV", but feel that I got a pretty good deal. It was about 4K more than a Tesla Y. At that price, I think it was an exceptional deal.
Oh. BTW, not sure what is happening in the US but my dealer experience with Genesis in Quebec Canada is great. Zero complaints. Too bad they screwed up in the US.
Loved the video as always. I would just like to add that if you are close to DC, Genesis of Alexandria was a very fair dealership to deal with during the purchasing process and the service department has been constantly improving.
Glad you also mention the i5, are going to make a video? I was basically debating between BMW i5 and Genesis Electrified G80 and at the end it was 100% the dealership experience made me walk away from Genesis.😢
These guys are some of the best and definitely bring up some great points to consider. My dealer has been great no issues, but some of the other dealers in the city were pretty bad. My in-laws wanted a GV80 and their dealership experience was horrible.(Purchased a MDX Type-S instead) On average Hyundai and Genesis dealers seem to still be pretty poor. In terms of EV's, we all still seem to be early adopters/beta testers; with battery tech still evolving most EV's are in the same boat as 1st gen products. Definitely proceed with caution.
I ride my fathers GV70 and I would never expect the car to handle better. You really have to be a race car driver or something to think the car needs better handling. It is super fast, seems to handle well. It has loads of power but I'm only going to use it in straight lines. I floor the car all the time and never had issues with traction. If you are racing the car around turns, flooring it, stuff like that, maybe a different story but who is doing that?
Are you guys going to give your take on those Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners had there cars written off because of damage to the under carriage where the battery sits. From what I understand they totaled the cars because of potential battery damage (one of them had a dent in the battery casing) through the shield and replacement batteries are more than cars worth (60k Canadian labor fees included). I wouldn’t touch a current Gen EV for these reasons.
I've never damaged the undercarriage of a car in 40 years of driving. If I do, insurance will take care of it. Sorry, for not seeing a problem here. Also, the OEMs will begin to offer remanufactured batteries in the near future. Crisis averted.
Wow, That was an excellent honest review. Very refreshing to see I mean where do you see reviewers on here admit their biases (allergic to the car). I find the styling of the Genesis GV 60-70-80 extremely satisfying, sleek and modern. I purchased a 2018 Bolt EV Primer for $30k and with discounts, tax breaks and trade-in (2015 Cherokee Trailhawk), it was out the door cost to me of $11,000k. (MSRP $44,680) and really was a great car (for what it was) for my needs, and I never had a single issue. GM did replace the battery, however I heard about the buyback so thought what the heck. I was able to get a 2022 Bolt EUV Launch Edition for the whopping sum of $350. Since I am so far flush with this I want to trade in and get something like the Genesis but this is stupid money they want. Looks like the EV market is crashing so I believe and hope by mid 2024 I can get a killer deal.
Did your test car have a weird fore/aft rocking motion as you pull to a halt (no matter how smoothly you do so)? I’ve had mine since April, your review is dead right - it gets squirrely under full throttle and the turning radius is oddly bad, but as a daily commuter it’s super soothing!
We had a bmw 740e that did the exact same thing and the dealer said it was normal. Would drive me insane. You have to modulate the brake right before you come to full stop to minimize it
Best thing about an EV is that you can largely skip the dealership maintenance plan and not experience their BS after you get the car. I didnt do any dealership maintenance on my i3 and this thing is still trouble free at 80k miles. I did brakes/fluid, myself, and tires at costco.
Having owned a Model Y for 2 months now, I notice the car is really heavy to drive even when compared to my previous car which was a Nissan Pathfinder. Also, as there's no coasting and with battery regen I found I had to maintain pressure on the accelerator pedal which causes strain and fatigue on the right leg. Do you feel the same with the Genesis?

Sooooo many people buying from these Hyundai/kia/genesis. Me included. Had nothing but problems on my Santa Fe calligraphy and I can’t get any of them fixed under warranty because their shops are so backed up. 6 month wait time just to get a diagnosis. Insane.

I've heard and read nothing but bad things with Hyundai and Kia dealerships. As nice as their cars look, I can't justify owning one because of the dealer network. We just bought our third Acura in 11 years from the same salesman. Even if we didn't get the greatest deal because I'm not the best negotiator, we didn't care too much. The experience was pleasant and the service department has been good (we had one bad experience with our 2013 RDX years ago that Acura Corporate made right). Since then we've been treated well which resulted in the 2nd car (TSX SportWagon bought as a CPO) and now a 2024 RDX. All three are in our fleet. We may be biased toward Acura but we're happy with their products and hopefully will stay with them for more years to come.
If vehicles are built right, I don't see much of a need to use a dealership, especially for an EV, which require minimal maintenance, if any. If you're buying some POS that's always in the shop, why would you continue to buy from that brand?
Just a thought about range - don’t rely the “guess-o-meter” that it gives you. Take the actual miles/KWh that you are getting, multiply by the size of the battery pack, and that’s your range. The guess-o-meter range estimate isn’t accurate - just a recommendation to keep that in mind going forward
It is sad to see so many Genesis owners are complaining about their dealer experience in US. Cuz in Canada, Genesis only sold in MSRP as a Distributorship like Tesla and more and more Genesis Store is opening up with one-on-one services.
In 2020, I wanted to test drive a Telluride on I-35 in New Braunfels, Tx. The salesman told me I couldn’t take it for a ride because people want to buy new cars with low miles!! I was 64 years old at the time, I had my 2014 Ram Laramie. I went down the street and bought another Ram Laramie, sticker $67,666..

How many recalls and warranty work does one typically need is the first few years of ownership because it seem like a TON. Never had that experience with my Toyota.

The cadillac Lyriq and BMW iX are my top two right now, just waiting for the best deal in the coming months when dealers are desperate to offload this years model.
While they made significant overall improvements so far from past years, Kia/Hyundai/Gensis still have a long way to go especially in long term serviceability for both the owners & technicians. The interior & exterior features are smoke & mirror and only skin deep like dangling a carrot while hiding so much flaws yet to be fixed. To make matters worse, they lack “Kaizen” philosophy that companies like Toyota embodies for “continuous improvement” where no owner complaint is too small.

I went to see this eGV70 while I was EV shopping a year back. In Canada this one comes in 1 flavor - a loaded Prestige trim that comes in an eye-watering $84k CAD price tag. Its middling range and high interest rates quickly drove me away, since the Volvo XC40 Recharge & Audi Q4 e-tron came in thousands less and offered pretty similar driving range.
Im an Audi guy (have had 7 in the last 10 years) and just replaced my wife's SQ5 with the GV70E. The Q4 is a warmed over ID4 and the interior quality proves this. Was also shopping the Q8 and the $30k price difference between that (Luxury tax applies) and the GV70 was too much. 9 months in and my wife loves it.

They can improve the car all they want but I’m not buying it until their dealers are Lexus level. Lexus gets away with aging and last gen tech primarily because of that experience n reliability. Ive been BMW for the last 8 years but they’re also better than hyundai. They upcharge on their msrp cars thinking that won’t hurt long term. They need to be the brand that discounts at the tightest times and they lost me. I was curious over n over but they are awful. I even lost my $100 deposit for an Ioniq for whatever reason and it didn’t even get me a priority when that was announced. Joke brand, bad customer service, bad dealerships. Never giving them a chance again. This was their time to strike n they didn’t follow through.
I drive a 2018 G80 Ultimate and I don't understand why this brand do not have wireless carplay. I hate wrapping my cable around the shifter. It just makes it looks so tacky. It's the Ultimate trim level. Their top trim infotainment units never get wireless carplay/android auto. I'm not sure if the 2018 got wireless anyway, but their lower trim ones do sometimes get it. It's a fight between the manufacturer and Apple/Google about navigation and who should "own" that space in the car.
It's a hyundai parent company thing.. they will fix it eventually but their sourcing/supply chain team negotiated a lower cost solution that did not have wireless car play capability.
This reminds me of the former industry I was in that came out with a very similar product but cost 2x more because of it’s perceived ease of use, when in reality it created new problems that had not yet been seen by the customer.
Reminds me of Dyson. Make something everyone else can make, charge twice as much, then make it so hard to repair you can't fix it. We went back to Bissel.
Genesis needs to adopt the Tesla sales model. I loved the experience when I got my 23 model Y. Salesman are not pushy whatsoever, they don’t care if you buy the car or not. Picking up the vehicle is so nice and smooth no garbage from dealerships
Sounds like a win for what the bulk of the target market are going to do with these vehicles. Bang for the buck was a big deal in the late 80s and into the 90s. Korea is focusing on bang for the buck and I’m grateful. Those who are looking for a daily vehicle with ten tenth’s capability and are willing to flush out 25% to 45% more cash have multiple options to choose from. I 100% agree that they try and cover up the dynamic deficiencies with software. While that’s helpful in emergency situations it’s not fun if you’re looking to intentionally put yourself out there in those sketchy circumstances. I’m thinking this will work for quite a few people if they’re not badge focused.
at the time I was looking for new car, I had a thought to get a gv70, and their dealership was made together with Huyndai and experience there was super bad. Place was empty and there was some young guy who didn't know anything. I bought Mazda instead. Now I think maybe I should have spent more time looking for a better Genesis dealer. Mazda is great, but maybe I would be more happy with something more upscale.

Yes, looking at a Genesis, we RAN back to the Lexus dealer one Saturday. "Greasy" was the description I used for the dealer.
100%. I thankfully have a stand alone Genesis dealer within 15min of me so it wasn't a concern when I bought my G70. But that is the only good Genesis dealer I have been to, all the rest are sleazy and and very very Kia.
I have a dedicated Genesis dealer near me and it's a fantastic experience.

Mark is right. I've bought 3 products from Hyundai / Kia; and while I love the cars, the dealer buying experience is irritating. Basically you can still get a good deal at the end of the day, but it takes more work and tolerance. You have to play the dealerships against each other and stay at it. The brand really has to punish dealers that get negative reviews from customers.
Also, the service experience was not the greatest. Just getting an appointment is 2 to 3 months out.
Any "Good" deal you'll get there is not worth it because you'll be dealing with garbage service and treated like inconvenience.
I would give up the dealer experience to get a better car

I used to dismiss the dealer experience part untill I had to deal with Hyundai Genesis service at least 4 times a year for maintenance and warranty issues. This IS actually a huge part and DO NOT pass on that, even if you like the car so much. Once the car is broken - it's those morons you'll have to deal with, numerous times!

Like Mark was saying about XC90 - what's the point of warranty when the car sits at the dealer for repairs more than it is actually driven? Now add a bad service and it doesn't matter how good the car is.
When I was cleaning my car at dealer lot after the hail, there was another owner that came in to check his totalled car that was in repairs. Same g80, but top trim. He said that before this, he had the car back for a week. Previous it was at dealer for two months because they were replacing the sunroof and damaged other stuff they had to wait for. Here's the warranty for ya!

I realized that warranty is just another marketing bait. If the car is reliable - you don't need one, but then why would you buy it new and pay for the warranty you don't need? If the car is not reliable you shouldn't buy it at all, regardless of what warranty BS is attached to it.
So, so right about the luxury vs price point. But i just had my 2023 GV-70 repurchased under lemon law due to transfer case issues. If the dealer experience wasn't horrific, I might have had more patience to let them sort it. I've been to 5 dealers within 70 miles and each was just as slimey as last. Shame as they have such potential.

I appreciate the video, as it was well done as usual. But I also appreciated what you mentioned about the dealership experience. I am in Florida and I can attest to being jerked around and being shown an astronomical market adjustment add on of thousands which, I was told, was not negotiable. The adjacent maintenance facility was overloaded and a mess, and the regular Hyundai and Genesis vehicles were all being sold off the same showroom. They also were offering a laughable trade in on my car, and running from me to talk to the Genesis shoppers (I was looking at the Palisade). I left there and went to Lexus, where the dealership experience is second to none. There were no markups, the price for my trade in was fair (not generous, but fair), and the car value is bulletproof (RX 450hl). I will not step foot in another Hyundai or Kia dealership, especially with how poorly those vehicles resell and hold up. By the way, the value of a Hyundai really gets washed away when they are jacking on a $7500 markup over MSRP.
Good thing the hyundai dealers are morons, you walked away with a car that will actually last over 100k miles without drivetrain issues.

I have the Advanced eGV70. It's what I wanted in a commuter. Quiet, fast, comfortable. No gas. Looks great. Carries kids and groceries but not too big. I don't care about range, I just commute to work. I'm not driving this at the limit. It understeers too much, too tall and heavy. I have an S2000 for my fun car. I agree, lease instead of buy. I've not had any issues with the dealership but it's still early.

Very nice car im sure, but disposable. Specially with Hyundai/Kias track record, worked as a tech there for 3 years. Also EV batteries lifespan of 10-20 years will total out these EV's from repair cost, or replacing and doubling emissions from production and sourcing materials like Lithium. People will harp on zero tailpipe emissions while charging from coal electric plants, out of sight out of mind. IMO hybrids are the most environmentally friendly new cars you can buy.

I know it feels like a broken record but thank you for mentioning the dealership experience again. I have a good friend who has a 2018 Hyundai SUV and it consumes about a quart every 500 miles but instead of the dealership telling her that it obviously needs a replacement. They just keep telling her it’s normal she’s not trying to do a warranty claim she understands she’s past the time and mileage but the dealership just flat out won’t give her any solutions. I told her to just go to another Hyundai dealership with a nice cheap Prius and trade it in and let them deal with it if they’re gonna be assholes about it.
I am the guy he is talking about, the dealership experience with 2 separate Hyundai/Genesis dealerships, 4 total horrible experiences. I gave one dealerships 3 tries and each time was a different excuse…it’s too bad because the cars are great. Once they iron out the issues and make more stand alone Genesis dealerships hopefully it fixes it
But until then they will keep loosing what could've been a loyal customers. When you realize that Hyundai doesn't care about Genesis experience outside of Korea -- there's no point going back, even if it looks good and shiny. In my case, the new dealership will be done next summer, but it would be all the same staff that I'm sick of from Hyundai barn.

@@theday2learnalso, keep in mind that majority of details/parts/panels are made in Korea, so when I had to replace hood and trunk -- I had to wait for over a month to get them through the dealership I despise. There's no aftermarket or salvaged parts, you'll struggle to find anything NATIONWIDE. I heard about that two years ago and dismissed it, like why would I need replacing body panels, right? And here I am, because of shit rear diff noise and garbage cheap dealer.
Just don't. Get your wife a Lexus or Porsche - she will appreciate the experience and facilities more.
Front grille is the absolute worst location for the charging port. You’ve just added a foot to the amount of garage space the car needs.

@@carltonr.7404 Because the charger handle plus cable sticks out a foot from the car. It’s not an issue on the side but on the front or rear, you are effectively making your car a foot longer if you want to plug it in at home. Modern cars are already really big for older homes and this makes it much worse.
I also couldn't park this in my garage and charge it. Some garages are shorter like in townhouses or condos. I have storage units in the garage that utilize every inch, pushing the vehicle right to the door.
Front grill eliminates any possibility that you’re blocked from charging at a public charger. Lots of them have short cables. This eliminates that as a possibility.
And if you get a minor frontal crash and have to wait for parts. SOL

Hey guys. The thing is, no one is buying an SUV to drive 9 or 10 tenths. I own a GV70 ice. One of the absolute best cars I have ever had. And I am more than happy to pay $25K less for 90% of a BMW. Not sure I personally am ready for any full EV yet ( petrol head to the end) but honestly for 99% of buyers no one will have a clue. Love the videos and the honesty. Keep it up. Their dealers are among the worst. A couple of years ago I went to check the kia telluride and hyundai palisade. Both gave me attitude when I asked if I could see the vehicle first. This was around the end of 2020 so vehicles were still relatively cheap. They didn't want to sell me the car as they advertised $5k off + 3% interest. They said I had to choose 1 either the 5k off or 3%. But boy would you ever expect a 18% interest rate. I walked out and went to toyota and got 3.8% for xse highlander. Never again I would ever step foot in those dealership nor recommending that brand.

I want to a BMW to buy a 5 series and everyone ignored and I left. Gullible people like to generalize.
Fair review though went a bit far on the "disposable" point. No manufacturer would put a 10-year / 100K mile warranty on a battery if they assumed they would have to replace the pack at year 9. Yes, first gen Nissan Leafs were disposable, as were every "Compliance Car" EV made to around 2016. BMS and related technology has advanced a lot since then.
Yeah, it's for sure a lease instead of a $75K buy
But the math changes a lot at $40K when you'll be able to pick up a low-mileage year old used car.
And the negative comments about Genesis service departments? This is an EV...no oil or fluid changes, with regen braking, you may never have to replace the pads, so exactly *what* service will this car need? Even Walmart can change a tire or a windshield wiper.
This isn't a BMW M series track car, and it wasn't designed to be. Unless you're looking for attention, who really cares if you can't stomp on the accelerator without squealing the tires?
So, I'll wait for my $40 GV70 electric and will gladly roll in quiet luxury.

I mostly agree with your review, and things you've pointed out about the Genesis vehicles.
Only thing i can't agree about is all the "handling " nonsense. No one is buying a Luxury Branded Genesis to Turn Off all the electronic stability controls, and horse the vehicle around roads like race car drivers. Even mentioning this is strange. Did you have to dig that hard to find something you could pick on? For the driving purests, the suspention and feel you described is exactly what they want, to feel the road, to hear the tires in corners. The car didnt get weard, spin out, fishtail, or anything unusual for someone TRYING to drive past the limits of a car just to prove a point. Seriously...
Having owned four Hyundai vehicals, of different types, i wouldn't hesitate to buy a Genesis.

If i had the option to appoint a vehicle the way i wanted via the internet, directly from Hyundai or Genesis i would ! The sales experience is like a 1970s used car lot run by pawn brokers, in dire financial need, with the staff using every old line, and trick, including tacking on thousands for dealer add ons you don't want, and telling you they are mandatory and cant be removed, like they can't take a $35 first aid kit out, or $110 rubber car matt, or $350 roof cross rails ect...
Then to, the dealership service is to be avoided at all cost! Even warranty work becomes a never ending runaround for simple things! Their "mechanic staff" are ASE certified dopes straight out of failing school, and have no idea how to service, fix or care for a $50k to $70k vehicle! Hyundai corporation needs to d-certify these dealerships and start over with a new model, and staffs !
I watched another You Tube channel. They stated it cost 60K Canadian dollars to replace a battery pack on an Hyundai EV! It cost more to replace the battery than buying the entire car! Lease not buy if someone wants an EV because the tech is new and ICE has been around more than a 100 years! Also insurance is more, repair cost is crazy sky high.
The genesis gv70 ev great and beautiful, I have driven it in the Canadian winter at -40 degrees and it gives me a range of 380 kilometers, super and super powerful, definitely an excellent EV SUV option worth what it costs, I recommend it
In regards to bad dealership/brand experience there have been two separate cases of Ioniq 5 models here in Canada where the dealerships have quoted over $55k for a 77kw/hr battery replacement put on the owner. They’ve claimed the battery protector panel under the car has been damaged and the battery must be replaced and not covered by warranty. Absolutely nobody in their right mind is going to buy these under those circumstances.
If they drove over road debris the replacement can be covered under insurance. That's an accident.
I've seen a lot of cars totalled out by hitting curbs, rocks or things that fell off a truck.
It's not the manufacturers fault when you hit something. That's what insurance is for.
This just shows a lack of knowledge and willingness to repair something that can be repaired. To be this sounds more like a broken dealer market then a problem with the cars themselves.
Strangely I haven't heard of cases like this here in Europe especially Norway where the amount of EVs is way higher.
And as a last point I have to say that a lot of dealers and people working there just don't care for EVs and the new products they have to sell. I went to my VW partner and a sales person started telling me that he hopes to be able to stop working before having to deal with EVs. It's also a question if how much they want to help you and want to learn.

The dealership was not good. I bought a 2024 GV70 gas model. My first service they didn’t see I had pre scheduled around 1 month ahead. I had to find the message. They were supposed to give me a Genesis loaner. I ended up with Hyundai Santa Fe after arguing for 20 minutes. They forgot to put my tire air caps back on, which I didn’t notice until I left.
I love the car! But dread the dealership.
My Mercedes was opposite. The entire maintenance experience was always exceptional. Granted they normally threw in some additional charges though.
And the equivalent MB costs significantly more.

Honest review however I drive a 2012 Nissan Leaf just under 100 thousand miles miles. Never had a problem with the battery pack. If you are buying a Ev would not worry about the battery most manufacturers offer 8 year warranty. The car structure will collapse before the battery. 👍
So per the final thoughts, the car isn't a bad EV, it will have the same issues with depreciation and repairability as other EVs.
Except that it's almost the same price as an X5 50e but with less power, inferior engine, drivetrain, ride and interior quality.

Over here in Germany I see a lot of women driving all kinds of EVs and I'd bet they just enjoy the benefits of an electric drivetrain and don't care about the typical dude stuff about cars. So this would perfectly fit as the family car the wife drives in a good income household. Handling doesn't matter when you do your family chores.
we have a '22 gv70 and the service experience is a huge factor for getting rid of it. in socal no loaners, but they'll pay for a rental, but you the customer have to make the reservation, pay for the reservation, and arrange for reimbursement from genesis....yeah no thanks. so far its a good car, too bad the experience is so poor

Never had a problem getting a loaner from my Lexus dealership although haven't needed one other than regular service appointments.

Love what Genesis is doing. Picked up a used G70 3.3T AWD a few months ago and love it. Thankfully my dealership experience has been good so far. The car had a few things needing addressed and every one of them was covered under warranty. Couldn't believe it as my other vehicles would never have been covered under same circumstances. My only gripe is they never gave me a loaner, only Uber rides. Regardless, many others haven't been so lucky w/ dealers as I have. Fix that and they have legit alternatives to the Germans.
They talk alot here about how it still isn’t a viable competitor for a discerning customer. The driving dynamics are trash. But maybe it can compete against lexis which doesn’t sweat that stuff as much either
Agree with the mixed experience at Genesis dealerships, considering most of them are still Genesis/Hyundai dealerships. FWIW in the SF bay area I've had good experiences at San Bruno, and mid to bad experiences at Dublin and Capitol. I actually leased my G80 all the way down in the Santa Monica dealership because they had the exact configuration I wanted, and they were pretty decent as well.
Hyundai is no longer going to allow Hyundai dealers to sell Genesis cars. They will all be standalone dealerships soon, and very few of them. Hyundai only wants 1-2 Genesis dealers per state

There would a be Hyundai Santa Fe or even a gv80 in my house hold had mama bear not been through such a bad experience at a Hyundai dealer buying a car. Now with her experienceling a Audi dealer I don't think genesis or Hyundai will ever make her a conquest customer. That's despite her liking their products subjectively.
I have one of these. Got it lightly used, fully loaded. '23 model. I share some of the concern about "Gen 1 EV", but feel that I got a pretty good deal. It was about 4K more than a Tesla Y. At that price, I think it was an exceptional deal.

Loved the video as always. I would just like to add that if you are close to DC, Genesis of Alexandria was a very fair dealership to deal with during the purchasing process and the service department has been constantly improving.
Glad you also mention the i5, are going to make a video? I was basically debating between BMW i5 and Genesis Electrified G80 and at the end it was 100% the dealership experience made me walk away from Genesis.😢
These guys are some of the best and definitely bring up some great points to consider. My dealer has been great no issues, but some of the other dealers in the city were pretty bad. My in-laws wanted a GV80 and their dealership experience was horrible.(Purchased a MDX Type-S instead) On average Hyundai and Genesis dealers seem to still be pretty poor. In terms of EV's, we all still seem to be early adopters/beta testers; with battery tech still evolving most EV's are in the same boat as 1st gen products. Definitely proceed with caution.

I ride my fathers GV70 and I would never expect the car to handle better. You really have to be a race car driver or something to think the car needs better handling. It is super fast, seems to handle well. It has loads of power but I'm only going to use it in straight lines. I floor the car all the time and never had issues with traction.
If you are racing the car around turns, flooring it, stuff like that, maybe a different story but who is doing that?
Are you guys going to give your take on those Hyundai Ioniq 5 owners had there cars written off because of damage to the under carriage where the battery sits. From what I understand they totaled the cars because of potential battery damage (one of them had a dent in the battery casing) through the shield and replacement batteries are more than cars worth (60k Canadian labor fees included). I wouldn’t touch a current Gen EV for these reasons.

Wow, That was an excellent honest review. Very refreshing to see I mean where do you see reviewers on here admit their biases (allergic to the car). I find the styling of the Genesis GV 60-70-80 extremely satisfying, sleek and modern. I purchased a 2018 Bolt EV Primer for $30k and with discounts, tax breaks and trade-in (2015 Cherokee Trailhawk), it was out the door cost to me of $11,000k. (MSRP $44,680) and really was a great car (for what it was) for my needs, and I never had a single issue. GM did replace the battery, however I heard about the buyback so thought what the heck. I was able to get a 2022 Bolt EUV Launch Edition for the whopping sum of $350. Since I am so far flush with this I want to trade in and get something like the Genesis but this is stupid money they want. Looks like the EV market is crashing so I believe and hope by mid 2024 I can get a killer deal.
Did your test car have a weird fore/aft rocking motion as you pull to a halt (no matter how smoothly you do so)? I’ve had mine since April, your review is dead right - it gets squirrely under full throttle and the turning radius is oddly bad, but as a daily commuter it’s super soothing!
We had a bmw 740e that did the exact same thing and the dealer said it was normal. Would drive me insane. You have to modulate the brake right before you come to full stop to minimize it

Best thing about an EV is that you can largely skip the dealership maintenance plan and not experience their BS after you get the car. I didnt do any dealership maintenance on my i3 and this thing is still trouble free at 80k miles. I did brakes/fluid, myself, and tires at costco.
Having owned a Model Y for 2 months now, I notice the car is really heavy to drive even when compared to my previous car which was a Nissan Pathfinder. Also, as there's no coasting and with battery regen I found I had to maintain pressure on the accelerator pedal which causes strain and fatigue on the right leg. Do you feel the same with the Genesis?

I wanted an EV6 but did not want to deal with the dealer so I got an ID4 instead. Hyundai has to take control of its sales experience. It's amazing they manage to sell cars at all with their awful dealer network

I've heard and read nothing but bad things with Hyundai and Kia dealerships. As nice as their cars look, I can't justify owning one because of the dealer network. We just bought our third Acura in 11 years from the same salesman. Even if we didn't get the greatest deal because I'm not the best negotiator, we didn't care too much. The experience was pleasant and the service department has been good (we had one bad experience with our 2013 RDX years ago that Acura Corporate made right). Since then we've been treated well which resulted in the 2nd car (TSX SportWagon bought as a CPO) and now a 2024 RDX. All three are in our fleet. We may be biased toward Acura but we're happy with their products and hopefully will stay with them for more years to come.

If vehicles are built right, I don't see much of a need to use a dealership, especially for an EV, which require minimal maintenance, if any. If you're buying some POS that's always in the shop, why would you continue to buy from that brand?
Just a thought about range - don’t rely the “guess-o-meter” that it gives you. Take the actual miles/KWh that you are getting, multiply by the size of the battery pack, and that’s your range. The guess-o-meter range estimate isn’t accurate - just a recommendation to keep that in mind going forward

It is sad to see so many Genesis owners are complaining about their dealer experience in US. Cuz in Canada, Genesis only sold in MSRP as a Distributorship like Tesla and more and more Genesis Store is opening up with one-on-one services.

How many recalls and warranty work does one typically need is the first few years of ownership because it seem like a TON. Never had that experience with my Toyota.

The cadillac Lyriq and BMW iX are my top two right now, just waiting for the best deal in the coming months when dealers are desperate to offload this years model.

I bought two hyundai/kia products - stinger and santa fe and both purchasa were fine/went very well. Then again im not a naive car buyer.
While they made significant overall improvements so far from past years, Kia/Hyundai/Gensis still have a long way to go especially in long term serviceability for both the owners & technicians.
The interior & exterior features are smoke & mirror and only skin deep like dangling a carrot while hiding so much flaws yet to be fixed.
To make matters worse, they lack “Kaizen” philosophy that companies like Toyota embodies for “continuous improvement” where no owner complaint is too small.

I went to see this eGV70 while I was EV shopping a year back. In Canada this one comes in 1 flavor - a loaded Prestige trim that comes in an eye-watering $84k CAD price tag. Its middling range and high interest rates quickly drove me away, since the Volvo XC40 Recharge & Audi Q4 e-tron came in thousands less and offered pretty similar driving range.
The GV70 is a larger car, longer wheelbase more comfort more interior space.

Im an Audi guy (have had 7 in the last 10 years) and just replaced my wife's SQ5 with the GV70E. The Q4 is a warmed over ID4 and the interior quality proves this. Was also shopping the Q8 and the $30k price difference between that (Luxury tax applies) and the GV70 was too much. 9 months in and my wife loves it.
Kia Canada proved that even on warranty managing issues related to batteries are a huge problem with customers ending up with big problems.

They can improve the car all they want but I’m not buying it until their dealers are Lexus level. Lexus gets away with aging and last gen tech primarily because of that experience n reliability. Ive been BMW for the last 8 years but they’re also better than hyundai. They upcharge on their msrp cars thinking that won’t hurt long term. They need to be the brand that discounts at the tightest times and they lost me. I was curious over n over but they are awful. I even lost my $100 deposit for an Ioniq for whatever reason and it didn’t even get me a priority when that was announced. Joke brand, bad customer service, bad dealerships. Never giving them a chance again. This was their time to strike n they didn’t follow through.

I drive a 2018 G80 Ultimate and I don't understand why this brand do not have wireless carplay. I hate wrapping my cable around the shifter. It just makes it looks so tacky. But to know that they still haven't implemented wireless carplay in the newer generation baffles me. Does it really cost extra for that technology to be built into those cars?
It's the Ultimate trim level. Their top trim infotainment units never get wireless carplay/android auto. I'm not sure if the 2018 got wireless anyway, but their lower trim ones do sometimes get it. It's a fight between the manufacturer and Apple/Google about navigation and who should "own" that space in the car.
It's a hyundai parent company thing.. they will fix it eventually but their sourcing/supply chain team negotiated a lower cost solution that did not have wireless car play capability.
It’s because the wireless Apple carplay didn’t exist in 2018. Their most recent cars have adopted the wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay.
This reminds me of the former industry I was in that came out with a very similar product but cost 2x more because of it’s perceived ease of use, when in reality it created new problems that had not yet been seen by the customer.
Reminds me of Dyson. Make something everyone else can make, charge twice as much, then make it so hard to repair you can't fix it.

Genesis needs to adopt the Tesla sales model. I loved the experience when I got my 23 model Y. Salesman are not pushy whatsoever, they don’t care if you buy the car or not. Picking up the vehicle is so nice and smooth no garbage from dealerships
Sounds like a win for what the bulk of the target market are going to do with these vehicles. Bang for the buck was a big deal in the late 80s and into the 90s. Korea is focusing on bang for the buck and I’m grateful. Those who are looking for a daily vehicle with ten tenth’s capability and are willing to flush out 25% to 45% more cash have multiple options to choose from. I 100% agree that they try and cover up the dynamic deficiencies with software. While that’s helpful in emergency situations it’s not fun if you’re looking to intentionally put yourself out there in those sketchy circumstances. I’m thinking this will work for quite a few people if they’re not badge focused.

at the time I was looking for new car, I had a thought to get a gv70, and their dealership was made together with Huyndai and experience there was super bad. Place was empty and there was some young guy who didn't know anything. I bought Mazda instead. Now I think maybe I should have spent more time looking for a better Genesis dealer. Mazda is great, but maybe I would be more happy with something more upscale.
