Good job Woody. Like most boat jobs the repair and fix takes always takes 5 times longer than we anticipate ….but that’s boat life. Thanks for putting out another great instructional video with a few good tips along the way . G10 looks like a great go to product . We appreciate the time and effort you put into each video , I know it’s not always easy to record and get on with the job. Thanks for paying it forward so others can learn from your experience .Cheers Nige and Donna
Thanks guys.. yes everything takes way longer than you anticipate, especially with the videoing too. Half the time I'm battling with the camera mount rather than the tools and of course the editing sometimes takes longer than the job itself. But I learn a lot from other DIYers patiently documenting and passing on their information to me so only feels right to pay it forward.
Thanks so much for this video! Ever since we saw your post in the group we've been in a bit of a "they used mild steel?!" shock ;) Thanks to your video we now know exactly what it looks like and how we can tackle it should we face the same issue in the future. We're starting the search for our ASM by the end of the year, as one of our two current boats has just sold. Exciting times! Fair winds to Fiji!
Thanks for the beer! Yes although Amels are strong boats they do throw up the odd surprise. There's also a fantastic support network of really knowledgeable guys too so you'll be in good company when you get one. Good luck with the search!
I have this same job to do, but forward where the eye bolt is for attaching the block to where the pole fore-guy connects. Would you say that G10 board I’d strong enough to tap and the bolt hold there?
Yea definitely. I was a bit unsure as I’d never worked with the stuff before so was a bit shy with it and didn’t really add enough. I would have doubled the thickness in hindsight and saved myself a lot of fibreglass layering!
I do my best to contain it and clear up but for such a a small job it doesn’t make sense to tent off the area. A vacuum connection on the grinder would be ideal but unfortunately I don’t have one.. and carrying a dust collector on the boat would take up an inordinate amount of space for the few times you use it.
Always a plaisure to learn with your expérience and your video

Hello, I like your videos very much. I just found your channel today. Can you tell me what software used to draw your diagrams?
I just use photoshop.
Good video Woody, but is it ok for all that fibre glass dust to go into the sea?
