Suggestion with the spinach and lettuce, when harvesting, try picking the biggest leaves and leave the small inner ones, that way you will be able to harvest every few days--Only issue with cutting them completely off at the stem is that they may take longer to regrow

The second one you caught is for sure an Orangespotted Sunfish. They're a much smaller species than Pumpkinseed and as such are not considered gamefish. But they are one of our most beautiful native fishes.

There are 2 things you need to do to spare the crawfish you buy & release. (1.)Fish down the bulkheads! (2) make stone beds to protect them so they can escape the fish & bullheads.
Stone beds should have chunky good sized stones or cobbles thrown in first, then flat stones thrown in over top of them. It makes pockets & spaces for them to escape to underneath the flat stones.

As a kid used to crawfish in creeks and small ponds in north Louisiana for fish bait. Bacon appeared to best bait. Bullhead cats would slso eat the bacon but when they got a big start in ponds you could forget about any crawfish. When we got older we used tripod like nets with sloped bottom that we would place chicken necks etc in to attract the crawfish...would use a pole to pick up net occasionally to check if had crawfish. if there was a large population you could check every hiur. Definitely had to salt water purge the crawfish before cooking if freshly caught in wild.

Long hotdogs and Vienna sausage, crack the can of Vienna sausage but don’t open it. Cut the label off first. I’ve trapped thousands of pounds. You need to put traps closer to the shores. And if you don’t have rocks for cover, crawfish don’t have anywhere to hide.

3rd coast man here. Crayfish need silty, muddy, particulate laced water. Theyre carrion organisms. The reason we have crawfish season in the south is because of humidity, temperature (theyre cold blooded), and all the dead mess in the water they can eat. All of the aforementioned things are basically all of the American gulf coast.
