CMX Track Cleaning Wagon - Best Track Cleaner on the Market! Full Review & Demonstration

- What's the best way to clean your track? I'd say a CMX track cleaner. Just fill it up with any cleaning fluid like Goo Gone or Isopropyl and then add the cleaning pad and watching go round and clean your track!
I've had mine for over 8 years and it's never let me down, and although costly, a good investment for any layout. - Авто та транспорт
I have a dapol track cleaner, it does polishing, vacuuming, special sanding, and track cleaning with any track cleaning fluid that we can find. I’m not so sure how expensive it was when it’s brand new, but it does me wonders.
Excellent video my friend. I just bought a pre-owned CMX so your words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. Robert
I made my own, 22m copper pipe, and a bit of work on the lathe. Hid it in an old coach.
Brilliant video, great explanation, you covered all my questions. Need to buy one now
Thank you very much this video. Was very helpful. I just got one a christmas🎄present I always wanted one❤
Great track cleaner, I'm so glad I've got one too. 😉
It looks like a tank car.
A couple of drops of neat washing-up liquid to clean the strips...Use a syringe to fill the CMX slowly! IPA 99.9% 5L containers and pour into a 1L bottle and syringe from this. Slow to medium speed providing the pad is sufficiently moist...plenty of ventilation.
Hornby 56...Bachmann 66, etc., etc. The CMX is the best and well worth the cost and will repay many times over. I also use the Dapol vacuum-cleaner...Only but...don't use IPA with anything painted and plastic!
What a great video, thank you....... I had been looking into this 'hot topic' and have decided, thanks to your good self to invest in one of these..... CMX should pay you something !
If only the would!! Many thanks for watching and commenting, take care buddy 👍
I bought the same one. It delivered today!
Great bit of kit, you'll definitely be glad you it 👍
I like that I might get one it looks a good idea
A shame you didn't use a completely new pad to show how the dramatic the effect was. I've just bought one today, so thanks for the review [now 163GBP!!!!]
Cool man I subbed
Thank you so much 👍
Really enjoyed your review of the CMX track car, very impressive unit. I'm interested in buying one, only possible issue is there's a low bridge on my layout and I want to be sure it will go under. Could you tell me the minimum headroom that's required to operate this car. Would appreciate this information. Thanks in advance. Best regards Roy
It is no taller than a typical boxcar or any other tank car.
Has anyone swapped out the wheel sets for narrow guage? (HOm) Is this a possibilty as my layout is HOm guage and as I have a couple of hidden helixes this would otherwise be a perfect solution to all the manual cleaning I must do. Thanks for any comments on this.
Regular alcohol works too.
I've just bought one of these but seem to get track shortages once the pad is moist. Any advice greatly appreciated please. Thanks John
Never had that problem ever, and I open my valve wide open, pad is soaked. Are you DC or DCC
Bought a Class 66 Hornby to pull my CMX and it wont pull it. When I put a little pressure on top of the loco, it will start to move. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Need something with a lot more weight pal, something like a Hornby class 60 or 56, my go to loco's. Bachmann 20s as a pair or anything Heljan really like the 58 and I've even had a 33 pull it. I sometimes let the pad get quite damp before I run the loco as then it doesn't have to work as hard. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching 👍
I have a syringe for mine so I know exactly how much fluid I am filling it with. It is easier than using a funnel & guessing how much fluid you are pouring in. I think it came with the unit.
Sorry to be so off topic but does anybody know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?
I stupidly lost my account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me.
@Bjorn Douglas Instablaster :)
Looks good and a quality product, made of brass. Cleaning fluid cheap to buy. What is it like with plastic wheels?
Depends on cleaning solution but I've never had a problem with plastic wheels (although everything gets metal wheels when I can)
Can the track being wet while running engine short the transformer out ?
No issues with 'damp' track while running locos, never had a short or any issues. I say damp as it doesn't soak the track, but leaves a nice damp surface which dries within seconds
Wanna make it twice as good, put a Centerline Roller Cleaning car a couple of cars back from the CMX.
After claiming why can't I leave it on the tracks ? Maybe I could just leave it on the tracks but Put a paper towel under it
Will it work if only half full? Then it won't be as heavy.
Yes it works half empty, I never fill it full as I had it derail when it was full and it made quite the mess!! It still weighs a lot when empty so the weight isn't a issue
Isopropyl has water in it. I’ve read not to use this on track. What does CMX recommend to use in their products?
Buy the 99.9% stuff, no water in it as it's pure alcohol 👍
@@InterCityBR Thanks!
I've heard use mineral spirits. No water in it.
I've used lacquer thinner in my CMX when the track is really dirty, works great.
Gut Gemacht
Good but exspensive!!! 🙂🚂🚂🚂
Wouldn’t a duster be cheaper?
Yeah, if you wanted to dust your layout, the track cleaner is designed to clean the oxidation of the rails for better electrical pick up for the locos.
For 179 dollars it better be good.
Why not push it? Then you have a better connection as you are moving it around the layout. 🤔
You can push it, but it's better to control the loco and let the loco do the work, it can be a pain to push around if you've got hard to reach places.
They tend to derail a lot when pushed compared to be being pulled I've found
@@dashaB-sl4pu sometimes, depends on your track work. I push it fine normally except points, so I pull through points. The wheels and bogies are really small on the CMX, this maybe why?
@@InterCityBR I've been experimenting with it a fair bit and I shortened the tongues on the KADEE Couplers and they were striking the rails on the points and has made a big difference, have no idea which model couplers they use and I'm new with this, can you work out what type they ase as I'll need to change them, but it's only used by itself with a single loco, they really take some pulling because of the weight of them, cheers Darryl
@@InterCityBR I've just replaced both couplings and adjust the height of them and that seems to have made a world of difference, the toongues of the couplings were down too far and hitting the cross rails on the points so hopefully it will be all good, thanks for your help, Darryl
I'm finding it a big disappointment for what they cost, works as advertised but forever derailing, either pushing or pulling, spends more time off the tracks than on it and here in Australia I'm using INOX as the cleaner for the rails and it is brilliant for the track and wheels but the gremlins in the wagon are a real pain
I find very few derailing issues, I suppose it comes down to the track work and layout. I don't really push mine unless on the main loops, I don't push over points as I've had it derail and spill out everywhere :(
Check the wheel back to back dimensions. It should be 14.4mm. If it still derails remove the springs from the pad holdar. Using inox there is no need for the springs.
N or HO? Looks like HO.
HO scale
@@InterCityBR HO is the most popular.
You can get a N scale.
@@daveblaedow8419 I already have one but I'll have to get a powerful locomotive to pull or push it cause of the weight.
bargain...not.
that stuff causes problems, lack of proper wheel to rail contact. and absorbs water out of the air. thus induces corrosion.
but the cmx track cleaner car is the best on the market, and they know it, thus the price.
Too expensive ,seen better simpler diy cleaners .
Who can afford one of those
