So it begins. My boyfriend is making me watch The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions again, so we thought an Extended Edition Girlfriend Review was appropriate. This is Part One of "The Girlfriend of the Reviews". Our next video will be an even deeper dive into the films and what it's like to watch them with a Tolkien mega-nerd.

We had to break this review up in to two parts because...well...that's just how The Lord of the Rings be sometimes. Stay tuned for Part Two coming soon! Also, who is your favorite character in The Fellowship and why is it Bill the pony?
Can you do Harry Potter next.
This one is an absolute banger!
Ummm well AkTUaLy the lord of the rings is three parts, never been more disappointed. Going to go watch the extended edition with 392 hours extra footage to heal my eyes.
OMG ITS ANOTHER GFR VIDEO?!?! THANK GOD! Lmao seriously though great job, as always.
That's what happened with the Hobbit movie, so it's to be expected. I just hope you're not being frivolous like Peter Jackson.
"9 Star Wars were gifted to the race of Men-children, who above all desire Ewan McGregor."
*Never have I been so offended by something I 100% agree with.*
Me too!!! I felt called out but was completely glad that I was also call out. 🤣

I died when she said "manchildren who desire above all else Ewan McGregor, 'hello there'"
"What is this a crossover episode?"
I cnt stop laughing! XD
Matt and Shelby deserves an intro oscar or something. 🤣
Everyone else: ‘Avengers Endgame was the greatest crossover ever made’

The writing and editing is worth more than all the gold in Erebor.
Idk, throw in the Arkenstone, and the scales might be tipped a little bit in favor of Erebor's treasure horde.

@@Tyler_W how much mithril do they have too, can't forget that
Yep, and it still got copyrighted. All the work that was put into this video and the money was stolen from them..
Girlfriend reviews it definitely top tier UA-cam. This is real content.
"Power beyond any boobs is corrupting his mind..." damn that made me chuckle.
Considering how great a power, and sway, boobs has on men; indeed the power of LOTR is beyond scope.
geroge RR martin: hmmm, what iffffff
I'ma be real, I've had both many times. LoTR > boobs every time.

"I would give up boobs."

"the power beyond any boobs is corrupting him" best line ever for a nerd who delves to greedily and too deep.
He needs an intervention then for he is dangerously close to the point of no return.
Breast* line ever
"and provide unsolicited trivia the whole entire time."
(That one scene is shown)
Me, to absolutely no one: "He actually broke his foot there."
I had to say it. It's the law. You guys know so, so well.
So say we all
Actually had to fight the urge to say it ngl, no-one else is even here.

I am the Tolkien nerd that makes her husband watch the extended editions while talking about the whole Silmarillion backstory every 30 seconds🤣
Everytime I watch Star Wars with someone, in my head I hear a voice telling me. "Dew it!"
Maybe that´s why...
Unsolicited trivia like the clip they show behind that quote is where Viggo Mortensen screams because he broke his toe kicking the helmet. It was a lot heavier than he expected.

The amount of clever writing and editing in 5 minutes here is unmatched. I don't know what I just watched but it's underrated.
The production quality has reached its peak. Even the Dark Lord would be afraid of the masterful editing. By the way you guys should definitely play Shadow of Mordor. Even though it isn’t canon.
*its peak
Stop apostrophe abuse today.
The pure perfection in editing that was that "unsolicited triva" line and that Aragorn scene. 👌
Some unsolicited trivia about that scene, Vigo Mortensen actually broke his toe from that kick. His scream was authentic and not acting.
@@ZephWraen I think that's specifically why she chose that scene for that line. I wonder how many times she's been told about him breaking his toe

I don't know how I haven't seen this channel before, but you've earned one of my very rare subscriptions (I hate subscription clutter). The "unsolicited trivia" remark showing that scene and without explaining further is a mark of truly comedic understanding. Absolutely loved this and can't wait for the next one.

I mean that's probably why right there.
You kinda answered your own question right there buddy.
A girl willing to do that with you is completely ordinary and you should decide to marry her for other aspects of her person.
Good thing you married her cause we would
I love how when you're talking about un-solicited trivia, you played the scene where Aragorn kicks the helmet and breaks his toe, probably the most famous piece of trivia no one ever asks about
If Matt went back in time and told his 13-year-old self that one day he'd be sleeping with a woman who dressed up as Gandalf for an internet video that tens of thousands of people watched, would they high five?

Let’s be honest that reaction would start with disbelief, then rejection, and then end with excitement cumulating in the highest of fives.
They would hug and sob together from happines
"Wait, I have a GIRLFRIEND?!" 13-year-old Matt asks the strange man who appeared before him, in a voice that cracked like the driest saltine and squeaked like the newest rubber ducky in the tub.

Good Ilúvatar, this video feels… absurdly targeted. I hear drums in the deep. My mega-nerd has been awakened. Soon I shall begin explaining the significance of Aragorn's ring and how it was passed down the line of Barahir and made from a shard of silmaril
How the heck was it made from a silmaril shard ?! Thats like almost impossible why would anyone break the silmarills
@@MorgothBauglire weeeeeellll tbh it's not actually guaranteed that it is a silmaril shard. Tolkien's Legendarium is so much more than a fantasy fandom. It was written to be a mythopoeic epic to serve the role for the English peoples that Homer or the Elder Eddas did for the Greeks and Norse.
In his contribution to English Culture/Literature, it belongs up there with Milton, Blake and Shakespeare, not pop-fiction escapism like Lucas, Rowling or Roddenberry.
Yep! And there's so much depth to explore! And the movies are *awesome!* I think I watched the extended edition and all the behind the scenes content in one sitting. Well, I did take bathroom breaks, but other than that...
The most badass of things to me, a tragically unintelligible academic also, is that these stories were all, in part, just English Linguistics/Philology papers to mr. Tolkien. A renowned expert in the field, all his colleagues waiting to see the one definitive work on English language development by his hand, mr. Tolkien was instead such a nerd that he decided to put his theories and findings in obtuse faerie tale allegories instead; in all these epic fictional histories of how certain cultures would have clashed and met, changing their languages and cultural output in specific ways.
P.S. I know Tolkien didn't intend his stories themselves to be allegorical of any actual history, just faintly evocative of historico-theological themes and tropes. As for language-history, though, a lot of his stuff is allegories of how gothic, germanic, anglo-saxon, latin languages would have intermingled, and how folktales and other culture would have been filtered through these different cultures of English history.
@@michelottens6083 Yep. He basically invented versions of how languages could develop and built a world around them. And was jotting notes about it while in the trenches of WWI! Ultimate nerd!

I will always think it’s interesting how they cast Elijah “baby face” Wood as Frodo when Frodo is supposed to be around 50 when he starts his journey
But hobbits age slower than humans, and Frodo had the ring since he was 30 (wich is the hobbit equivalent to 18 or 21 in humans), wich kept him from aging.
