Switch or Motor? Any tips on telling if the problem is in the switch or the motor? Passenger side window wont go up or down. All other windows fine. When I toggle the dashboard window switch I do hear a "click" from inside the door, just no window movement.
The wrangler in the video was my brother-n-laws......I promise you it is a 2011. He still has it and I worked on it just last week. There is a difference on 2 and 4 door models and maybe thats where your seeing a difference other wise I know 100% its a 2011.
2009 Wrangler is the same! However, quick question. How can I tell if it the regulator that is having problem? My 2009 Wrangler window is stuck in down position. Getting clicking sound, but nothing else. Replacing regulator is a bit more of a pain, don't want to do it if I don't have to.
+Steve Wilson Evening Steven. You need to check the wiring at the window motor to make sure you have both 12 volts on one wire and a ground on the other. Have someone hold the switch in one position with the key on and see if you have the 12 volts and then the ground. Try it in both directions of the switch. The 12 volts should move to the other wire and the ground to the other as well. That's how it makes the window go up and go down....by reversing the power and ground.
I believe your link to the motor part is now invalid. Can you renew it or point me in the right direction for this motor (not the whole regulator and motor assembly)?
Which link are you speaking of? The amazon link in the description is a generic link where people can buy anything and the channel gets credit for it. Otherwise I never created a link for any parts in that video.....that I know of lol. I recommend replacing with a MOPAR replacement part. Its the only brand I trust.....aftermarket parts at the local parts store are so hot and miss and they change suppliers all the time. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
My rear window just got stuck in the down position!!! When I hit the switch, the interior lights dim but nothing happens. Then all the windows stopped working and I pulled out the switch, unplugged it, replugged it and all the windows worked except the original one that is stuck down... regulator or motor???Please help
Matthew R. Afternoon Matthew......sorry about the delay. Looking thru the service info, the procedure looks to be the same. Even looks like the same door panel as well. So you should do fine following this video. Thanks for the question. Help spread the word by sharing these videos with others. Thanks again and make sure to subscribe if you haven't already
I checked the plug at the motor with a test light and it has current. Window goes down but not up. Took the motor off the door and same thing. Switched motor with front motor and same problem in rear, so I know the motor is good. Replaced the rear switch in console and same problem. What causes this?
You have to push in on the plastic regulator attaching fingers that go thru the holes in the glass at the bottom. I do need to do a video on this and hope to in the near future. Its a bit hard to describe in words.....it needs to be shown by video so that it comes across clearer.
+joeyfrigo evening, I don't currently have any videos on this repair. There are a lot of steps and its hard to explain them all on here without explaining a few of them visually, especially the unfastening the glass from the regulator.
Hi, I have a 2010 Wrangler. My issue I'm having is how do I test to make sure it's the motor and not the regulator? Over the summer during the day it would stop working. it would either roll down and not go up or not go down, at night it would work fine. I assume the heat played a factor. Now it's winter and it just stopped completely, thankfully in the up possition. I'm not trying to buy any parts I don't need. Your video did bring a little sign of relief now that I see it's pretty simple to replace, at least the motor.
+mkvenn77 First item we need to check is that the connector at the window motor is getting 12 volts on one terminal and ground on the other with the connector disconnected from the motor and with the key turned on. Hold the power window switch in one direction while check the above mentioned items and then hold the switch in the other direction and see if the 12 volts and ground swap positions. That is how the motor goes up and down by reversing the inputs. If it the results are correct then you could give the motor a gentle tap with a hammer (not enough to do any damage) on the metal portion while hold the switch in the position you want it to move with the key on. If it then moves then you know its the motor. Usually a regulator issue will cause the glass to go down and not come back up due to the cables breaking or the regulator breaking.
Maria Russo I recommend checking a the window motor connector at the window motor. You need a test light or multimeter to test it. I don't have access to a vehicle at this time inorder to show you how to.
So, I did the continuity test and checked the motor. The motor is good, but I fould that one of the female terminals was corroded. Now the issue is finding an OEM replacement terminal instead of replacing the whole wire assembly for the door. Trying not to go after market unless I have to. Thanks for the advice on touble shooting the problem.
on my 2009 JK, my driver's side is getting slow. it is not dead, just slower than the other ones. Does that mean it is the motor. I'm happy to see that this is not hard.
+Wilfred Cruz Morning Wilfred. The issue could be one of many.....it could be the motor. Other possible causes are the window regulator and also the rubber weather strip/runchannel that the glass rides in. Some times the felt inside the runchannel and be worn due to the rubber and then causes the glass to drag.
Well. I did it. Very easy. There is some improvement, however is still slower than the other one. But it did improve. So for $60, I'll let it run. I was going to open the door and check the regulator, but I don't want to break something unnecessarily. Thank you.

I'm having the same exact issue. Did you come to find out if it was the switch or the motor?
Are you sure that was a 2011?
Door panel doesn't look like my 2011 Wrangler.
I have a 2 door.
Are the door panels different on the 4 door model?
I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler 4 door in 2011 they changed the interior I think your working on a 2010
That is NOT an '11 Wrangler

thanks for taking the time to make the video. sure helps
Your welcome Tony! Make sure to subscribe and check out my newest videos as well.
my 2011 jeep wrangler does not look like that at all.
4 door and 2 door versions will appear different in design as far as the door panel.
Thank You - Perfect demonstration - easy to follow!
Thanks David! Appreciate the comment
THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR!!!!!
Your welcome. Thanks Jose for watching and for the comment.

What’s the part number
Thank you for the info! Does this apply to 2009 wrangler window motors as well? Thanks again.

Awesome, thanks so much!
Matthew R. Your welcome Matthew. Always feel free to ask any questions.
Can you share the motor part number for the 2009?

Did you figure out what the problem is? I am having the same issue.
Great help thank so much

I need to replace the regulator, but the window is still attached. How do I detach the window from the regulator without breaking the window?

Your welcome and thank you as well for watching

Any chance you could show exactly how to check the voltage? Maybe where you are indicating where to check. a photo perhaps??

+MotorCity Mechanic mine is very smooth and consistent. I'll change the motor and see. Thank you for your video. Otherwise i wouldn't even try it yet.
