  • This is a quick and easy step by step tutorial for how to sew a fabric hair band. Rosie wrap, tie up rockabilly headband, dolly bow... whatever you want to call it, this is a super duper easy and quick sewing project.
    This would be a perfect tutorial to start with if you're new to sewing. And it requires less than 1/4 yard of fabric, so it's a great way to use up scraps!

    I've made like 5 headbands in a day with a wire in them. First piece of apparel I've ever sewn on my machine and it was flawless!!!! Made a great bday gift for my rockabilly friend's birthday. Thanks so much ♡♡♡

      I would love to add wire as well, but as I am living in a very wet country I am scared of the wire rusting and creating stains. Any tips on how to avoid that?

      Rad. I'm a cook by trade but, I really enjoy sewing and alterations. Clothing constitutes the "accent" of our body language.
      I recently felt good enough at it to quit one of my jobs to make a little scratch doing theater costumes and stuff on the side.

    What was the seam allowance that you chose for your Rosie head wrap?

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  Рік тому

      I used a 1/4" seam allowance so I wouldn't have to trim as much at the end.

    This is great because my problem is everything I wear including headbands has to be 100% cotton, any touch of nylon, polyester, spandex, including elastic (I have found 100% cotton elastic) any synthetic material, I'm allergic to and it affects my nervous system. I'm going to try this, but headbands tend to not stay, they slip back until they're off, how do I fix them so they won't do that?

    • @helenekardos1398
      @helenekardos1398 7 років тому +2

      I always use a couple bobbypins at the back of my head to fix the headband

    • @greenland5313
      @greenland5313 6 років тому +1

      Justelle's Life To avoid them from slipping, I like to put squiggly lines made of hot glue on the side that doesn't show

    What is the purpose of the white transparent "fabric" she use?

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  4 роки тому

      The white transparent fabric at 01:12 is interfacing. In most cases, it adds a little extra structure or stability. In this case, I'm really only using it to keep the knit fabric I'm using from stretching. (This tutorial works best with woven fabrics, but I really liked the print of the floral knit.)

      Kids after the age of 5-6 yrs have the same size head as most adults.

  • @Tambowz911
    @Tambowz911 4 роки тому

    How long do you want it for a child around 7?

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  4 роки тому +3

      I don't make much stuff for kids, and I haven't tested this myself, but... the adult size measures a total of 38.5". The average adult female head is about 22", which leaves 16.5" for the ties. So I'd say measure your kiddo's head and then add 16.5".
      (I looked up the head circumference for kids and got about 19". So 19" + 16.5" = 35.5")
      Final tip: After you've cut and sewn together the two strips of fabric - but BEFORE you turn it right sides out - I would do a test fitting, if you can. There's a chance that you'll want to shorten the ties just a bit to account for the smaller size.

    Did she...sew across a needle? Isn't that dangerous?

    • @smarmyclothes
      @smarmyclothes  4 роки тому +1

      Danger is my middle name.
      If the pins are arranged perpendicular to the seam, you can pretty much sew right over them. It's much faster than removing the pins one-by-one as you sew. That being said: Yes, I have hit pins with the needle before. XD

      P.S. You can slow down the video/audio speed if you don't mind the fact that it makes me sound drunk. Click the little gear icon and choose 0.5 or 0.75 for the Speed.
