There was actually a Spanish dreadnought named Alfonso XIII, of the España Class. Although in reality it only displaced 17000 t, not 90000 lol
About your ship from this video, I can say this: "when you have fifteen eighteen-inch guns in the broadside under the control of a good fire control system, they do not report contacts, they report destroyed opponents!"What to do, here instead of accuracy, statistics begin to work...
that cruiser blowing up was just like the Hood when she went up. Fireball hundreds of feet in the air.
and only 2 survivors..........if even for that cruiser!
You all might think coal-fueled diesel engines are a ridiculous thought, but "diesel" is, first and foremost, an ignition technique, named for it's inventor. Engines that use this technique - heat generated by the compression of the fuel and air inside the cylinder - can, however, be made to run on pulverized coal. The much greater surface area of coal dust vs. an equal volume of coal in chunk form allows much more rapid combustion. Coal dust is, in fact, downright explosive.
Sailing broadside on to a battleship armed with 18inch guns? Thats a padallin
I'm Gay Ayy, a Mighty Jingles reference! Now THAT’S a paddlin’!
The benefit of the secondary tower being directly behind the main tower is so the funnels go behind so the smoke does not decrease accuracy from da towers

What on earth are destroyers trying to accomplish by getting into a firefight with a BB with greater armor, greater range, and greater firepower? You'd think if they were brave enough to do that, they'd at least make an effort to try to swarm in and get at least one torpedo salvo each.

Me looking at those extra spaces for turrets: you have 18 inch and 7 inch guns already, why don't you put some AAA there?
The next moment: more secondary
Very fitting that we get Yamato as intro card indeed, you're gonna die to waves of aircrafts
There aren't any AA guns in this game nor aircraft... :/
@@thebushwolf710 There will be, according to a post on Steam Forums, but it won't be a thing on release day either. My assumption is that we're getting them by 2021
@@hanswang7891 Still, no need to think about that if its going to be something in the far future. But if that still is the case than I cant wait for Aircraft carriers :D
For the AA variant, just replace those 7" guns with 5" DP guns and give them VT fuze shells. Throw up an impenetrable wall of explosive death.

I hope they add CV's to the game so you can actually make the yamato but with a much better AA armament and get rid of it's only weakness

@@ziavanzaa.r6335 that was literally her biggest weakness. She didnt have any mid range AA guns so there was a window where aircraft attacking the ship were basically safe.
@@MudkipsAreEpicWin yes, but then we have to accept the fact that, even with more amount of AA guns, the ones shootings are still human. Not fire systems. And, no matter how many amount of AAs, she was still swarmed with a lot of planes that a gunner could not handle. AA probably won't matter, but air superiority will be the winning game.
Yep, imagine the amount of AA fire this ship, but with every single secondary slot housing a triple 5" turret firing proximity-fuzed HE shells would put out. Not to mention the insane number of Bofors guns that would fit on her!
@@ziavanzaa.r6335 I never said more AA, I said a better set up. She still had a pretty fearsome AA setup, not to mention AAA was never very effective at actually shooting down planes to begin with. If you need more weight and have funds, use Semi Oil or Oil as it's a lot lighter than coal bunkers. I do this at times and it can really help if you need 500+ tonnes extra.
Four single barrels, pretty but useless. Classic Italian design.
But all those cannons would ruin the beautiful lines and weigh them down when they need to run away or switch sides
Well of course, all those cannons would just ruin the beautiful lines and weigh them down when they might need to run away or switch sides
@@weldonwin Italy did not switch sides, it's a common misconception. I can explain it to you if you want.
@@anzacwashington7050 Firstly, suing for peace is different from surrendering. Secondly, whilst it is true that the Head of State did not change, you have to remember that Italy was a parliamentarian monarchy, where power was held by Parliament and the PM, not the Monarch. Therefore, to state that the political line of Italy should have stayed the same after Mussolini was overthrown would be erroneous, as it would imply that it was decided by the Monarch and not by Parliament. Lastly, while it is true that the Italian army was badly equipped in both world wars, I feel like its contribution is highly underestimated, as the British like to do with other nations. If on one hand the Italian army was outmatched by the Austrian one in ww1, on the other hand it still managed to hold a large portion of the Austrian army and four German divisions, which after 191ü could have been used to break the Western front open (there were only 10000 americans there at the time, the main body of reinforcements was yet to come). As for ww2, the fact that the Maori battalion was outnumbered is of marginal importance to me: the British troops on the African front were equipped with heavy artillery and tanks which the Italian troops were not capable of piercing, thus making the Italian numerical advantage useless. On the other hand, Italian and German troops were badly supplied, especially in regards of Rommel's Afrikakorps, as most supplies were directed towards the Eastern front. Italian troops were still capable of proving themselves fighting, like in the battle of El Alamein, where the division "Folgore" was finally destroyed after 3 days of combat, during which the soldiers hid in the sand with Molotov's and jumped on Matildas passing by to blow them up, or in the Easter front, where the mountaineer divisions (Alpini) were encircled by the Russians and fought their way out of the pocket.
@@anzacwashington7050 Italy was very much not an absolute monarchy, be it as a constitutional one (Statuto Albertino) or with parliament overruling the king, but the decision were very much not taken by the king alone. For example, prime Minister Giolitti before ww1 had a plan to prevent Italy from entering the war: Parliament would rule that Italy was to stay neutral, the king would abdicate (so as to be freed from the promise made in the London Pact of 1915), thus making the new king free to let parliament do its bidding. As for Italian leadership in ww2, I do agree that it was bad, save from a few cases, as most generals were nominated not because of their skill, but their loyalty to the regime.
There was something bloody wrong with the AI's ships that day.
Those destroyers held off until the main battle force was destroyed, instead of closing it for a torpedo attack. And using 12 cm guns at 10 km range? Against that monster? Close in for the kill, overwhelm the defences. That was a lemming train of World of Tanks proportions.
57thorns that's the way I'd play it. Hell if the torpedoes didn't hit I'd order the DD's to ram it. I'm probably going to lose them anyway so may as well

You could have follow your first idea of placing the secondary tower on the back and leaving the central turret in between the two towers, a more logical design and it might have helped with weight distribution.
Secondary towers don't weigh that much. Besides, the ship was perfectly balanced now
Also u could of put the funnels behind the second tower if u put that behind the main tower so the smoke from the funnels don’t get in the way
I wonder if they will add the crew as a factor to the game, after all, if HE shells will knock out the entire crew it does not matter if the ship is damaged
If it becomes too complicated then it'll become unplayable, as other games have become. I hope some things are kept simplified so you can hop in and play without too much stressing. But yeah, you're correct that a ship without a crew is just a husk.
@@ArcticuKitsu I agree that if it would be too complicated it won't appeal to the casual player, but I am sure they can make a very simple manpower factor like ships in total war games

After going around the tube and viewing other UA:D videos, I have to say that you're one of the better ones. I'm so glad that you know the terminologies and put actual care and effort into building the ships.... In my personal opinion, a battleship should never sacrifice speed if the choice is between armour and armament, yeah, it shouldn't be to flimsy like the Kongos and it shouldn't be too soft knuckled like the Scharnhorsts but being able to dictate an engagement is key.

You could put 18 in twin turret on each side can’t you ?
(Really like you content)
Yes I could have, but that would mean 1 less gun in broadside firing.
Something that seems weird to me is that the number of guns in a turret doesn't look like it changes the size of the turret. It changes it's displacement and cost, but that's it, having a single or double gun turret takes up the same deck space as a triple gun turret.

Shouldn't all or nothing armor reduce hull weight? At the very least it should be the lightest armor choice since it's not armoring the entire ship.

wonder how well a battleship with an armor belt made of tungsten rather than steel would perform tungsten is much more heavy than steel but its also leaps and bounds stronger under both tension and compression than steel, you'd have been able to make the belt much thinner than it would be if made from steel while still retaining the same amount of protection

Secondary armaments: 7” triple gun turrets x6, 5” double gun turrets and 3” double gun turrets x8
Belt armor thickness: 17”
Top speed: 25 knots
Ratings for the Alfonso XIII class of battleships:
Main firepower: Excellent
Main gun accuracy: Excellent
Secondary firepower: Very good
Secondary gun accuracy: Poor
Armor: Good
Speed: Slow
Manuverabilty: Fair
Damage control: Very good
In conclusion: The Alfonso XIII class of battleships is a very formidable enemy, one that few captains, brave or stupid, would dare to engage. With its withering firepower and accuracy at ranges once unheard of, there are few ways of countering this menace of the seas. One way is by use of naval air supremacy from aircraft launched by aircraft carriers and constantly bombarding it with bombers. Another, more suicidal way is by use of destroyers and torpedoes. This, however may subject the destroyers to both main and secondary battery fire, leading to almost certain destruction. In short, this ship is most effectively countered by aircraft bombardment; however, should one’s fleet encounter this monstrosity of a battleship without an aircraft carrier, it would almost certainly mean a highly decisive victory for the Alfonso XIII class, with the complete and utter destruction of said fleet.
I would mounted some trops behind the tower just to distrect the formation of the enemy.
