Welcome to iTripReport's flight reviews, which I focus on reviewing both the soft product and hard product of airlines around the globe. In all honesty, not wanting to be a Debbie Downer...but....I just saw a UA flt from ATH-EWR in Prem Eco. The meal was like a coach meal pre-covid. His sister sitting in Polaris had the same meal as he did. That's very sad that you can't improve your Polaris food. I flew in BF quite a few years ago IAH-LHR. The food was excellent. I love UA. I would love to see them improve their meal quality esp in Polaris. Also, start meal service for the whole plane from IAH-HNL. Being a domestic flight is not relevant.....it's the time spent in the air.
That should be the determining factor, flight length. I wish some of the decision makers would fly IAH-HNL in economy and survive on potato chips, almonds and a small bottle of water for 8 hours. That's absolutely cruel. Please please please....serve better quality food.
This new cabin really makes me feel better about United as a whole and the direction they're headed. Pulling out IFE was a decision that put customers after cost-cutting, and putting it back is a big step in United becoming a better airline.
Thanks for sticking it to Doug Parker….he treats his employees and customers terribly! His employees are wonderful and deserve better! Glad to hear that you enjoyed United!
I really does bother me, cuz not only was I am avid supporter of American, but I’m friends with a few AA employees who are wonderful people, and truly do the best out of the product they offer. Hopefully we’ll see an upgrade from them soon cuz they really do need it

That landing was so smooth (like butter), I thought the spoilers inadvertently activated before touchdown!!! Nice trip report, and kudos to UA for improving the onboard passenger experience.

Gordon Bethune and Larry Kellner from Continental would be proud. The reason why people got upset at United for removing IFEs in narrowbodies is because United previously had DirecTV IFEs and the reason why United had the DirecTVs was because United inherited that from Continental.

@@BendySnowball i am in the position where I don’t need to shop for lowest price. I believe in their mission, their treatment of FA during pandemic, their stance during pandemic, etc. and they’re the best airline in my city imo. Although their loyalty program ain’t that good, I don’t mind it. I will go out of my way to use delta and it’s partner. This is what good service brings you. Loyalty. There were many scenarios in my life where I have an unexpected events (accidents, death, etc) and they accommodated me free of charge every time. Won’t forget that.
I few on 787 from SFO to ORD and that IFE was really good. Made my flight even better. So glad to see this coming to the 737

Great trip report Emil. That cabin is impressive: glad to see video on demand is back. It looks quite premium. Seems like really good attendant in first also. And for a nearly 100 degree day with a full load, takeoff performance wasn’t bad either.

Amazing product I can’t believe what United did and they are really stepping up their game. I’m curious what it will be on other aircraft In the future besides the max. I also can’t wait to see what they do with the max 10 and A321XLR.

Great video. So nice to hear United is striving to improve the passenger experience. I think seat back IFE screens are so nice. It makes the flights so much more pleasant. I'm hoping that AA will eventually follow suit despite the ramblings of their CEO.

Glad to see that United is becoming passenger oriented rather than profit oriented as other major airlines, that prefer having more seats instead of amenities for the passengers in all clases not just business class , looking forward to all United fleet bringing back the setback inflight entertainment

Good to know that United is reverting back to PTVs. Should've never take them out in the first place. Now they gonna have to retrofit the first few Max 9s that were already delivered and have the remaining Max 9s factory fitted with them on delivered. Great trip report minus the small information error 👍🏿
The seatback entertainment makes me book them over American Airlines and Alaska.

Your outpost of The Club sure looks more luxe than mine. BWI's is a disused Airspace Lounge and it's super narrow., with only seven or so tables. But the lounge is in concourse D, a pain in the butt for AA/WN pax who have to reclear security to get to their gates.
United should've kept the old economy plus headrest colors. Purple should've been reserved only for the premium plus product on long-haul. The previous economy plus headrests also had better aesthetic.

Hope United can bring live tv to the entertainment system. Perfect to watch live sports while in the air.
Exactly! The ability to have on demand movies & TV shows while also having live TV would truly propel United past the other legacy carriers..
One constructive criticism I have for United is on the economy plus side of the divider bulkhead. They could've bolted the IFEs onto the back of the bulkhead so that the frontmost economy plus passengers won't have to stow the screens for takeoff and landing and the seatwidth on that row wouldn't be compromised.
As someone who has had to commute to work for many years, I just can't imagine anyone flying as passenger for fun. Whenever I could I just flew in the cockpit...

So, do you just fly out to a destination then turn around and fly back, or do you usually stay a few days there before returning? I'd imagine with the amount of editing that has to be done it would be the latter correct?
Leaving the cheapskate Jeff Smisuck... I mean Smisek days behind. I've been flying United for over 30 years and this is among the best moves I've seen the airline make.

Great video I agree with you that United has kept the customer in mind with the person backseat IFE and the bulk wall. American is concerned with cost therefore forcing the customer to use their own device for entertainment.

In the past few years, United’s notoriously punitive policies and bare bones hard product always made me wonder why one wouldn’t just fly Spirit or Frontier instead. It seemed like a shame. All United ever did was push me to be more loyal to Delta and Southwest, even if it meant paying more. I never saw the value in choosing United, especially living in Southern California where the market is so competitive. I’m so glad United is changing course on the hard product. I hope they also amend some of their policies in the future. If that happens, I could definitely see them capturing the business of loyal Delta/JetBlue/Alaska customers that value a better passenger experience.

Basically domestic first class seats are the same seats used by the respective airlines in premium economy

Their sole purpose is to play the safety video for those in the bulkhead row (since their screens are in the armrest), but I've seen them use it sometimes to play the flight map.
Looks like United is trying to compete with Delta, so it looks to me that Delta will have to also compete with United or risk being merged into United

Looks like you had a nice flight. I am, however, reserving judgment on United till they improve the handicap experience- by that, I mean, not tossing a handicapped person around like a piece of luggage. Both AA and UA have treated me this way, which is why I won't fly them any longer. The only airline I haven't had this issue with is Delta, who treat me like a princess every time I fly with them, no matter what class I'm flying in. To me, the most important thing an airline can do is treat me like a human being, and so far, Delta has been the only airline to accomplish that.
But that's why I subscribe to you. You can let me know when that happens. As for American't? I don't think I will EVER fly them again, if I can help it!

I was told it was, my dumb self forgot it even existed, but apparently it is. I have a flight on the MAX in economy in a few weeks so I can report back with full confirmation, but current word is it does.

Being significantly younger and thinner than me,you shouldn't concern yourself with caloric intake--for somebody of your age,calories should be the least of your worries! Didn't seem like the a/c was pushed back during engine start,if so,the pushback wasn't very far.Always a treat when an avgeek flies to my home airport as I don't live far from IAH--thought it unusual for the FA to have a British accent,with a little imagination,one could picture himself perhaps on BA or Virgin Atlantic instead. Noticed on boarding how all the IFE's were dark,wondering if that's normal or do the passengers activate them? As far as I know,UA is the ONLY US carrier to still maintain an inflight magazine--DL,AA and SWA have dropped theirs--was watching the evening news,seems that UA is giving employees until late October to be vaccinated--guessing the company has a 'Vaccination or Termination' policy in place,sad to say.

Unfortunately it will only be on mainline (entire Boeing and Airbus fleet), however as part of their announcement they said they’ll be upgrading a few Medium cities from regional to mainline

I miss the full bulkheads. They make F seem a lot more private. Glad they brought them back. As i start flying a lot again, I'll probably be switching most of my business to UA from AA since they have started to do a much better job product. AA's product has become pretty awful.
But i still don’t understand the see thru curtains tho. Only americans carrier do that. What’s wrong with some nice solid curtains?
I will be doing UA this year also because i get my delta medallion extended to jan 2023. But based on where I live, flying in UA regional sucks compared to delta flying a220 to my airport here.
@@jkjkjk100 Safety regulation in the US. Crew must be able to see though the cabin. No real reason for you to bother with UA then.
@@johniii8147 i am flying to china for business and fare is extremely expensive. So i would be getting 1K almost immediately. So might as well give it a try since i know i will still have my diamond medallion. Mileageplus is a way better program but it’s hard to beat delta domestically for products imo.

You'll get similar seats om the first class of Delta, Alaska, and AA. In fact, AA first class is worse than this with less padding compared to UA. If you want lie-flat, your only bet is Jetblue and that's it.

As United starts putting IFEs on future MAX 9s, how many Max 9s have been delivered without IFE?
United currently has 30 737 MAX 9 in service, all of these delivered before the MAX 8, so currently all of those are BOYD. New deliveries will come with PTVs, however, I'm not sure when they plan on retrofitting the current MAX 9
@@ITripReport but could it be possible that the 31st MAX 9 was made before United's first MAX 8 but was just sitting in Renton for longer and will be delivered later?
@@Blank00 afaik nope, all the current MAX 9s have been delivered, next one isn’t scheduled to come out the assembly line till around late 2021 early 2022
Those MAX engines look comically large
