Great video guy’s, I got open roads and mud flap trying to decide which one is better. Y’all make these videos fun, Cody is serious and Angela is the funny one!
Thanks! Several people have mentioned that they use both, as they can each provide different options (like large truck stops off of the interstate vs. off-the-beaten path). Granted, I don’t know. I did see that with Mudflap, you have to go inside for your discount, so we’re trying to be realistic and decide if we will actually do that for a discount. Know thyself..right?
UM, I need that bacon covered goodness in my life! EFS will change your life, just by going into the truck stops. Seat heaters are great but we need extra toe warmers! Fun video!
Let's be clear... NO ONE needs them! LOL. They were tasty though. So far, the larger fuel tank alone, has kept us out of the fuel pumps, but I am pretty stoked to have a better option when the rig is on.
I think all pups are extra extra, or at least all the ones I have had. You're lucky that it's just the water dish, I have a pup that buries his food dish in his blanket if his food is not made to his liking.
Open Roads is great. I have been on Diesel for about 6 months. I can usually get diesel cheaper than the current gas price using my open roads car. Thankfully my local truck stop is open roads so I can use it all the time.
Hey thats the Buc-cee's we visit everytime we go back home to visit family and friends. Its always fun to see places you go on someones videos. I can't wait til my wife and i can get a motorhome and start traveling more. God bless and safe travels
The main benefit of Open Roads is the truck island with DEF at the pump. The discount seems awesome, but really just removes the "truck stop tax." You may have noticed truck stop cash price on diesel is normally 25-50¢/gal higher than local stop-n-robs. When you're counting your open roads savings loot, remember there's a swipe fee and 10% goes back to them. Don't get rid of that other fuel card - pricing is usually as good with more local options in a lot of places. I've got a GasBuddy card similar to the one you mentioned. Another pro tip: QT, Sheetz, and some of the other big chains have truck pumps at some locations and will work with open roads at cash price plus a swipe charge. Worth it if you're hooked to the camper. If not and don't need DEF, pump your diesel on the car side with your other card and avoid the swipe fee. Hope you filled that big tank in Missourah before leaving - lowest cash price on the pumps east of I-35, believe it or don't. Louisiana is a close 2nd.
Missouri was pretty cheap! Thanks for the advice! I am still trying to figure out how this stuff works, with a couple of embarrassing dry runs at the pumps. Lol
I use open roads and mud flap. Both give reliable discounts. I installed a 60 gallon auxiliary fuel tank in my 17 Ram. Went with me when I bought my 22 Ram. I don’t buy fuel often when traveling but I usually can more selectively choose where I purchase fuel. I always use the truck lanes. The auxiliary tank is no problem to fill. However, the onboard tank requires a little caution to prevent a fuel bath. lol. TA usually gives the best discount on the open roads card. Mud flap varies. Our experience has been that luvs has the cleanest stores and TA the dirtiest not only store but restrooms as well. Can’t emphasize enough for all to know the total height of your rig. Gets real expensive if you don’t know the correct answer.
Morning from CT. We have the open road card, saves us up to 65 cents a gallon!! By the way Cody, Scott traded up to the big horn dually. So far we love it, glad for the trade. We got white, named him Bull😊
I am absolutely loving that exhaust brake! My blue truck never let me down, but I don’t feel that I have to foot-feed the hills or have to be as “ON” with this truck.
Cody, lube your slide rubbers also.. helps keep them pliable so they flip out and in .... that Chinese rubber gets non conforming the older it gets.....
Also MudFlapps is another discount card that has more diesel stations than ORoads especially if you are unhooked. Brats looked marvelous! Safe travels!
Look like y’all had a great time on the carts and the ideal of the cheese in the bruta look good. Cody there is one thing you need to check on your Ram, if they haven’t Fixed the problem. The Hood emblem’s on each side when it rains or when you wash it water will get in the hood. You lift the hood and water will pour out the back bottom. The way I repaired my emblem’s was to pop them out put a little clear adhesive and put them back on.
I have a 2017 f350 dually it has a 48 gallon tank and I put a 52 gallon transfer tank in the bed. I don’t remember the last time I had to get fuel with the 5th wheel hooked up. I have over 1000 mile range. We came home to south Louisiana from dandridge Tn and planned to do it in 2 days but the wife was watching the weather and realized that the next day there would be some weather issues so we went the whole way. 750 miles 2 bathroom stops for us and the dog no fuel stops.
Mudflap easy download and no service charge if pulled from account. Local Casey's truck stop has 19 cents savings per gallon and 10 cents off DEF. I carry TSD too but have been find Mudflap has better savings. Bought and installed the spare tire thing works great $11 thanks for tip! Safe travels!!!
Thanks! Glad to hear you liked the spare tire fix. It’s a wonder the manufacturers don’t just take care of that on the front end though. I’ve seen some ads for Mudflap. I may give that a shot depending on how the open roads card does.
We were going to that Hog Valley RV park a few weeks ago but it was booked up. Turns out there was a Razorback game that weekend with LSU. We went to Branson instead. It's good to know that place is nice. We will visit next year.
I have a diesel as well, I flip flop between the Gas Buddy Fuel Card and Open Roads. I’ve noticed if you’re doing a lot of interstate driving you’ll get great discounts at truck stops. But when you’re in town and off the highways you’ll get pretty good discounts at other gas stations as well. I usually reference both when getting fuel and see which offers the best deals between both.
What I like about open roads card - in addition to savings - I can use diesel island and pay at the pump. Saves the hassle of going in prior to pumping. As far as savings, you can usually find comparable prices at a Walmart, but good luck pulling into Walmart fuel center with a fifth wheel. Also, most conventional credit cards stop the sale at $175. I have never reached the open roads sale limit on a filling. We have an aux tank, so we can carry almost 100 gallons-another great thing about a diesel. We can strategically plan fuel stops based on pricing through the open roads app by looking a head on the route. I also get DEF at the diesel island as opposed to buying at a store -it is supposed to be fresher. No discount on DEF but our power stroke doesn’t seem to use much (our camper isn’t heavy for the truck).
That is all great information! I appreciate it! I have heard the same on DEF, which I found interesting. I also looked at the Mudflap option, after some suggested it and the only downfall that I saw was what you mentioned. I am not a huge fan of going inside, if it isn’t necessary.

I’m not sure what that is. I’ll have to check it out.
My dually ram has a kick down step at rear bumper. It's factory and it sweet no need for ladder.
