The word "conviction" has a mystery inside of it that is revealed by examining its etymological origins. It comes from the Latin words "con," meaning "with," and "vincere," meaning "to conquer." "Conviction" literally means "with conquering," or -- perhaps more felicitously -- "with victory." But victory over what? I'll discuss more in this episode.

Speaking only for myself, the trick is to have victory over your own doubt, but still be constantly re-evaluating your convictions to see if they hold up to criticism. I so often see, especially in politics, that someone stakes out a position (a conviction), and will never admit (s)he was wrong; no matter how much empirical evidence exists to demonstrate (s)he was wrong.
You always bring n+1 information, where n is exactly the point of reflection I'm stuck on.
Very Nicely Explained ..
This perfectly describes the balance needed. Winston Churchill said "Never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense." Words to live by.
I admire the saying but Churchill was a genocidal maniac who's responsible for millions of innocent deaths
What I think is that the way you explained this with words was like sheer poetry
