I like how you said that the engineers at rimac really know how to tune a car, that's an important skill. The engineers should also be good drivers. I think Porsche is also really good at this, their cars feel like they've been setup by people who know how to drive well.
Whatever day is best, just keep it coming. Please make that Detroit character opposite Thomas from TH a recurring thing. It was hilarious and I want more Detroit auto stories that way please Jason.
Derek's comments on feeling disoriented by the speed of an electric car are relatable even in a video game. Where you'd normally downshift once or twice for a braking zone and have an auditory cue for how fast you're entering a corner, now there's just a single subtle pitch change. Adding that the electric cars gain speed so much faster than comparable ICE cars, and I'm always entering corners 20-50 mph too quickly and making a mess of the racing line.
I had a great slow car fast rental recently in the Mitsubishi Mirage. I hated all of it, but was laughing more than my FRS because the performance was so appallingly bad. I could crank the steering 90 degrees left and right, and car would stay on a neutral trajectory, while the body just rolled side to side. Also I think the tires had such soft sidewalls that I'm pretty sure I dragged a rim on the ground a couple times - and yes, I checked that they were properly inflated!
The only reason I go to school on mondays is because i know I can listen to the gospel during lunch (and parts of math). Please don’t delay the time you release the episodes
Tuesday is nice but.... for me that is a schedule clash with The Smoking Tire Podcast and honestly, the both of you take time to digest. I love it but yeah. You know, I have been liking the various responses to the Nevera. It would seem that auto journalists seem to come away with a impression of not knowing what to do with it after driving it, which is kind of wild... Especially with you, Jason, and Derek. Both of you has seen some stuff. Fast stuff... Bugatti-stuff. As far as the Future of the Bugatti brand, it's almost fitting that it seems perpetually behind the curve but this is one of the thing that Mate was rather pacific about and I happen to agree with you that a hybrid now seems like a rather big whiff. Oh well, Bugatti is going to be Bugatti.
"Bugatti is going to be Bugatti". That is pretty much exactly my sentiment about the topic. In the end i really couldn´t care less since i will never be able to afford one and even if i somehow magically would be, probably still wouldn´t spend millions on a car.
@@Schmitzelhaus The other thing to keep in mind to is that Bugatti ultimately is a creature of its clientele. Their clients don't want an EV, so long as they get a choice in the matter and given that said clients are comfortably well-off... I can see why Mate decided that a hybrid first was a good idea plus Rimac Technology happens to have plenty of experience with those. Still at this point it seems a little too late, not that the clients of Bugatti care.
The discussion about other manufacturers seal of approval via partnering with Rimac reminded me very much of the Tesla powered Mercedes' (B-Class, Smart) and Toyotas (Rav-4 EV 2). Maybe VW/Porsche will _not_ separate, sell their stake way too early and then lack behind half a decade for probably ever, this time around.
On any surface the Nevara pushes the Dodges words right back down its throat... that fluffed up 0-60 time is all they got.. drag slicks, prepped surface, rollout...

Came back to the bay to visit family ad oh my god the roads have been beat to hell and back. It was nice and super fun driving my favorite backroads with the hills green and roads damp in a new BRZ but wow the roads are a mess.
Hi Jason, have you ever driven an AE86 or a CR-X SiR? I'm curious how those compare to Miata and Scirocco in terms of "fun". Seems like similar basic formulas.
It's so early with EVs. It's interesting to see someone exploit the performance opportunities from the new tech. But what will be really interesting when someone comes out with something genuinely new based on EV tech instead of an EV version of X. I'd welcome something on the opposite end of the spectrum: something small and useful that's fun to interact with for reasons beyond face melting acceleration. I think it'll come, but only after the novelty of EVs passes. This is one early step on what will be a long evolution.
Wow very interesting episode. I didn't know hardly any of those factoids about Rimac - that they build almost all of their own components. It's very interesting that Jason uses Tesla as a comparison ( though they still source things like brakes and wheels from tier one suppliers ), because Tesla makes cars that are mass produced, and built to a price while the Nevera is a cost-no-object, extremely limited production vehicle. Very interesting that they took the same approach to part sourcing. I assume Rimac Nevera's will not be shipping with mis-matched tires because the volume is small enough that they won't run into those issues.
It's also how the company has made money, you see Rimac is a battery and components supplier before it's an auto maker. As amazing as the Nevera is, it is really a giant billboard to anyone and everyone that is looking for EV components. Take the Aston Martin's AMR one, it uses a Rimac battery. So does Mate's buddy Christian von Koenigsegg for the Regera. Automobili Pininfarina has just use the entire powertrain and battery pack. There's also The fact that they have technical expertise that they can lend out to others, which is why the likes of Porsche and Hyundai have invested in the company. Mate has actually managed to do something that should make every other EV maker jealous, keeping the black and stay in the black. The reason for this, he assumed that the jump towards manufacturing was not the best idea... given the struggles I've seen among EV start ups to manufacture, he's clearly on to something.
@@DuvJones I had learned about Rimac's development of EV powertrains as their origin story for why they were building the Concept 1 and Concept 2, and that was their main business. But learning that they built their own *brake calipers* is astonishing when there are such well estabilished suppliers for these components.
@@HandsomeAlex25 I will be honest, I took that as misinformation. Jason is good at data collection, he is not prefect. And given they vehicle has VERY few parts outsourced (the brakes[standard brembos ceramics] and DPU's [those are from Nvidia]) I can see how the error was made.
Great video, love you guys. But the Chiron couldn't have been any better for Bugatti. Creating the magnum opus of internal combustion is much more compelling than being ahead of the curve on EV's. We'll be drowning in ultra high tech EV hypercars in a few years, but the Chiron will still be on top in its category. Plus, the 2016 consumer hadn't been sufficiently lubed up by Tesla to allow an electric hypercar to penetrate their fantasies, and people would have resented the premature abandonment of the internal combustion engine in what they expected to be something like a love letter to internal combustion. Also '4-motor capable of 1.4 megawatt output' sounds so dweebish compared to 'quad-turbo W16.' Agree the hybrid is a disappointment. Looking forward to listening on Tuesday or whatever you decide
20:00 isn't that bullshit? I looked up the safety datasheets for several hydraulic steering fluids, and it doesn't look to be the case. There is no mention of fire hazards in them. If something is so inflamable it's not that easy to extinguish and fire hazard would be pretty far forward in these documents. But the measures against fire in the safety datasheets are not that difficult. (the only thing other than extinguishing anything that can burn is to not use a "sold stream of water" which is based on it being a fluid and that would rather disperse it than extinguish it. But fine water-mist-spray is ok. So i would argue against it being a big fire hazard. Also, there is hydraulic fluid available that is barely flammable or really inflammable. It's just an excuse for ZF to only have to make one sort of steering and not 2 kinds i think. Electric motors going wrong can be a fire hazard due to the heat that can occur...
It doesn't matter when you release the show. We're all probably backed up on what to listen to anyway. Just release it at some point during the week, every week.

Amazing conversation, and I have said this is the one EV car that I like and am interested in other than an appliance that I replace.
Monday please
Only thing that made my Monday feel slightly good
I was listening on Spotify and went to UA-cam to comment
I don't really care what day of the week this podcast is, just as long as it's weekly.
Also '4-motor capable of 1.4 megawatt output' sounds so dweebish compared to 'quad-turbo W16.'
Agree the hybrid is a disappointment.
Looking forward to listening on Tuesday or whatever you decide
thank drone technologies for heading hold in the traction dept.
Post it Tuesday morning!
In Slovakian (which is also west slavik language like Croatian and we do understand each other in some level) "nevera" means adultery or cheating the spouse
In Croatian that would be word nevjera. But nevera is seaside weather occurance
@@nosuperstar87 I would wonder if the two words "nevera" and "nevjera" have something in common linguistikaly speaking... Perhaps someone was cought "inflagranti" and blaim it on the wind :D
@@mipko hah could be. I m not sure about the origin of that word. Especially because i m from eastern part of the country and nevera is used only in areas close to the sea.
Tuesday works!
i live very far away (GMT +8:00) so i dont care what day you launch it but late night your time would work GREAT for me cos then i get it for my work day!
I'm not in the US of A, so I don't get it on Monday morning anyway. Do it when it fits your schedule and I'll be happy regardless!
Electric supercars sound like the F-117. So technologically advanced to do a job it’s un-flyable without computers because its design goes against the laws of physics and aerodynamics.
Ima li još ponosnih Hrvata??😁
Nađe se

Jason, of all the amazing voices and sound effects you can make, I’m disappointed in your airplane call button sound. Lol But I do have a question, if Miata is always the answer, will there ever be a an EV that is the new answer?
Yes
The fact that you guys didn’t name the Ford/Lincoln Zephyr while going through wind named cars made me sad.
1:04:07 Funny to hear Jason go nuts about something that's normal in every hybrid Toyota 🤣 It is one of the reasons other cars frustrate me, tho, so I get it
I mean you can also sing together that would be fun
Just to be that guy, I have driven a Leopard training tank and it does have a steering wheel.
Jason Cammisa is classy in all way expect coffee he drinks.
I’m ‘Merican, sell me this here ReemaK, take a trade on ma JagwAAAR
I too miss the singing.
4pm UK time is fine by me. Please don't change it.
other car named after wind: zonda!
if i say once again that the automotive pronunciation expert checkpoint is huayra, would i be spamming?
Yes
45:04 Jason must not visit Texas much
Tuesday video drops, or whatever, would be OK with me.
Unreliable boutique hypercar manufacturer that isn't Pagani? There aren't many choices, it must be Koenigsegg.
annnd the Dodge guys... "bUt ThE dEmOn 170"
I dont hate Tuesday
Dont think the day you post the podcast matters.. for god sakes sunday is a day for coffee and sleeping in late. Love yourself, have a couple days off. Tues or wed is fine too.
Jason, thank goodness you met your usual high standard of pronunciation which I would like to second. I would have come over the table had you not! Won’t ask you to to even try the name Brajac btw. Thanks for your accuracy. Amazing what living a few years in Europe can do to give you a more worldly appreciation…
