They're amazing. Jake and Liv are just amazing. No one knows her like Jake. He sees her good, AND her bad. He doesn't try to keep her as a perfect fantasy, he tries to understand exactly who she is and he does. He knows her through it all, her strenghs and greatest weaknesses, and he truly loves her and stands by her through it all. Their relationship is so multidimensional, it's what I love about them.
I agree, I've said so many times Jake knows Liv better than anyone else on the show, including Liv herself. What began that was when he was watching her, he saw the REAL Liv. Not the cape wearing OP. Since then he just knows and gets her like no one else, he's like the Liv whisperer. I love their relationship and dynamic.
Gorgeous, intelligent and finally closed the loop on all of the potentially fatal secrets that had to be kept. Even without a romance factor, this was stunningly beautiful. The dynamic of both of them having the capacity to save one another is incredible
I was so crushed when I came to the realization that the only way she could have saved him was still going to keep Jake stuck with doing exactly what Rowan wanted anyway. And Olivia does not have the capacity to not be struggling and to not be in pain. Jake shouldn't have asked for super boring lives, but even if he only asked to settle down, she still would have crushed him. Its painful to watch how they look at each other and see the reality of what she's doing to them
IDK, Liv was ready to settle down and be with Jake in the 18th episode so it's not that black and white. I don't think they could live a normal life in DC, maybe if they left DC it would work like when they were on the island. They were there for two months. Liv was genuine in wanting to save Jake and get him away from her father (that was shown in most of 5B as well) even if it's the same result, it's better than it being under Rowan's thumb. I still see Jake and Liv being the same way in S6, and in general Jake never lets Liv just push him around like with Fitz.
I loved the 18th episode! It made me SO happy. That's how i know she does love him genuinely because of the fact that she did leave him on his wedding day. I still feel though that she would make it difficult to truly get the ring on and commit for real. Its sad bc it actually looks like she wants to want that. And i agree completely with the Rowan thing. Sure he got what he wanted and I am sure that he's gonna come back and do something w it, but I think he was more happy bc he knows Olivia and her need for power so once she left the house, he knew Jake would become the VP candidate. To not want to be like your parent but having their tendencies...what a tortured life. And I have been in love with Scott Foley for years. Rhimes made Jake Ballard a really attractive man in terms of personality...confidence, being straight forward and giving a woman what she wants, its fantastic to watch

Her actions ALWAYS showed it, so I agree that episode just told many what they already knew about Olake. I agree that in general, Liv can try and be normal but that's not her. It's one of the many reasons Fitz's delusional Vermont fantasy would never work or them being together in general, or why every time they could be together she sabotaged it or ran like hell from him. Liv has issues, it's been shown since S3 and we see the depth of that cause of her parents, especially Rowan. It do love that she has had some normal moments with Jake though. It's the same with Jake, I feel just like Liv he WANTS that but it wouldn't really work for him either. It's like their conversation in S3 when she said she wants him to just pretend with her like a boyfriend is supposed to and he talked like he had a normal work day while he was Command. I think he said normal is pretty boring but I love that they want to stand in the sun together to be better people. This is the first show I've watched SF on, I couldn't get into Felicity lol. I love me some Jake Ballard though. His character is fantastic and I love his pairing with Liv, along with the way their relationship and love story have evolved beautifully throughout all the seasons.

I feel like for viewers that *actually* analyze the show in its entirety it's a contradiction: Olivia has always lost against her father and now all of a sudden Rowan hands Jake over just like that??
Rowan is a very complex character, but his family is everything. He would never harm Olivia she is is blood. He loves Jake like a son, Jake loves him like a father, it's twisted and complicated. He will harm Jake, but wouldn't kill him unnecessarily. Just like with Marie Wallace, even though he knew she betrayed and didn't love him, he couldn't kill her. Instead choosing twice to keep her imprisoned.
Makes perfect sense! Liv and Fitz had that toxic forbidden love, that would probably lack depth if isn’t wasn’t so…well… toxic and forbidden lol. But her and Jake have true friendship/companionship. It’s a more grounded love
liv never told jake that she loved him but she absolutely did. they have the same darkness and broken soul and they understand each other as nobody else. fitz never knew all of olivia pope.

It makes no sense lol but it's nonsense to keep Rowan relevant and that Vanessa is nothing but a plot point. I heard the actress is on another show and the episode she married Jake was her last so maybe she will just be a name drop now, who knows?

It's the fact that he "created" them and raised grown men in his image, they were broken when he took them in. It's this God like feeling "you can't take command" And Tom even kind of says that as well in his Helen of Troy monologue when comparing Olivia to Helen of Troy "she didn't have a father either, her father was a God"
He let them (I feel) because he knows how much he loves her and she loves him. He is a monster but he wants his kids together and Liv just killed two birds with one stone. Saved Jake and still put him in the vp race (as Rowan wanted).
