My Best 10 Air Dry Clay Projects to Try Out | Beginner Friendly Air Dry Clay Tutorials
Hey guys, I wanted to share 10 air dry clay crafts that I have made over the past year on my UA-cam channel with you guys. These include a clay wall hanging, trinket dishes, a clay planter, a key holder, a clay vase, clay magnets, a jewelry holder and a bowl. btw did anyone notice I spelt smiley face wrong on the first title card lol. I'm so happy I clicked on this recommendation. Love all of these projects! Especially like the sprinkled on dots you added to some of them. And that you also kept in footage of 'failures' which you then decided to change afterwards as you weren't happy with it.
I have two questions:
- Do you wear a respirator while sanding air dry clay?
- which type of colors do you use to paint the air dry clay? Is acrylics fine?
Thank you!! I don’t use a mask or a respirator when I sand. Although I do keep a big window open when I do it (it’s located right in front of where I do my projects). And I use acrylic paint on my projects 😊💖

Wow so amazing and helpful glad I found your account! I want to know what kind of paint do u use? I just made a air dry clay dish and used iridescent acrylic paint I had I was gonna wait for it to dry to use the gloss glaze on it but it’s already peeling a bit 😢
Oh no, I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve never used iridescent acrylic paint, but I always use acrylic paint on my projects. I use brands like top notch, craft smart, deco art & folk art.

Thank you! I used acrylic paint. I get them at either Michaels or Joanns and I use whichever brands they have in stock as long as I like the color. 😊

I don’t know if anyone answered you. That’s a dotting tool usually used to paint mandalas on rocks. They come in sets with all different sizes.
You ended up getting separation with the border because you didn't score the clay before attaching. Do you have to score both sides and add some water and then it sticks.
How do you stick the hooks so it's sturdy and doesn't slip out later

oh thank you!!...I use acrylic paint on all my projects and then I usually mix a bunch of different colors together until I get something I like. For the circular wall hanging I used FolkArt's Terra Cotta line in the color Claypot and mixed in a some white paint to lighten up the color a little. I got that at Michaels :)

yes, I just leave it out to dry without anything on top of it. I do put it on a plastic wrap just so that it doesn't stick to the surface.
What type of paint you use before drying up the pieces you were cutting out? Or that was liquid clay.

Thank you! No air dry clay does not need to be baked after it’s dry 😊
What do you do with the clay you have cut ? Can it be mixed with the other clay you have left? Do you have to wet it to mix it? What kind of a container do you keep it in after you’ve opened the original bag? Thanks.
After I’ve opened a bag & still have clay left over I put the clay in the original bag it comes sealed in and wrap it as tightly as I can without any air bubbles in there & then wrap that with plastic wrap so that it stays closed and the clay stays fresh for me like that. I never mix clays that aren’t the same brand together because I don’t know how they will react with each other. But if it’s the same brand I do mix them. If you feel the clay is dry when u mix it, u can add water to help it mix better.
Can I use a HARD non- flexible mold with air dry clay
I think it could be done if you used a paper based clay because an earth based clay might crack inside the mold. It wouldn’t hurt to try it out if you have some spare clay laying around.

I got my tools from Amazon. Just look up “clay tools” and a bunch of things should show up. Also in the description box, I linked one of the tool sets that I use. They should also sell clay tools at your local craft store. I hope this helps :)

It does help it out, but it still doesn’t make it waterproof.
When the clay is drying, does it stick to the table underneath?
It probably would. I always let my clay dry on top either a baking sheet, wax paper, a silicone mat or plastic wrap

I use acrylic paint & for sand paper the grit varies for each project. I buy my sandpaper on Amazon and they have packs with different grits and those are the ones I get.

I get my sand paper from amazon and I get the most basic one they sell that comes with a bunch of different grit sizes. And I never use one specific grit size, I just use whichever size I have on hand.

I rotate in using a couple of different ones I love which are Das air dry clay, creative paper clay, Jovi air dry clay, Sculpey air dry clay & activa supreme air dry clay.

First of all I have to say these tips were great! It's just what I wanted to see! 😍
But, something that got a bit wearisome was how often and close apart "ok guys", or "guys" were said just in general.
You probably don't notice it yourself since it takes a long time for you in between when you say it, but in the video it's something that feels overly used for us. All said as constructive feedback! 🙏❤️
I think it was said five times just within the first minute, and many times more throughout this, and another videos of yours I saw before this.
But as I said, great tips! And wonderful work!!
Also, so it doesn't feel like a you-issue or attack on you, lots of people making yt-videos get stuck on that word. That's probably why I hang up on it extra much as well. It's like it's become a word where it lights up in my brain every time I hear it. 😁
😭 I have put varnish on top of the acrylic, when the varnish is dry, I can peel it off using my fingernails. Can you give me some tips so that the varnish doesn't peel?
I’m sorry to hear that. I’m not really sure what’s going on, maybe the type of varnish you’re using doesn’t mix well with acrylic paint. I usually only use mod podge or deco arts sealer and that usually works out for me. Maybe you could try using a primer coat of acrylic paint first, and then paint and then seal. The only times I’ve had problems with paint peeling was like when I used Amico clay or if I like didn’t wait long enough in between coats of paints. So just make sure that your paint is fully dry before you seal.

@@rereaprillia4778 a primer coat is an extra step that you can do before you paint. So if you google acrylic primer paint it should come up. sometimes it comes up as gesso. The main point of it is to make sure that whatever you paint on your project sticks. it will even out the surface and cover up pores.

What if you don’t use glazing for that
You don't have to use a sealer. I use it because it will make the paint last longer on my projects, but I don't always use it. It comes down to preference

yes on this video, the 2nd project is where I didn't use sealer. Well at first I did but I didn't like the finish with the sealer on so I repainted it without the sealer & it shows how the project would look with and without the sealer if u wanted to compare. ua-cam.com/video/IEEudDTK8r4/v-deo.html
