    The bead "garland" looks like it could possibly be an Orthodox Chotki. I can't tell if it has 33 beads. I really love the idea of transferring napkin designs on the clay. That is so beautiful.

      Thank you, Alisha! I had not heard the name Chotki before. Thanks for teaching me something new. You could definitely make it into anything that has meaning to you. Thanks for your nice comment!

    A tip I learned from the comment section of an Our Upcycled Life video when making a clay bowl is to lay a piece of cling/saran wrap as flat as possible on a table and place the rolled-out clay circle on it, making sure there are as few wrinkles as possible. Then lift the whole thing up by the saran wrap and then carefully place into a bowl to get the rounded bowl shape. This helps reduce the number of wrinkles underneath the bowl. My challenge with air dry clay is painting it, I always find acrylic paint peels off. I use the same Das brand of clay so I'm not sure if I need to use a high-end paint on it. But I like the things you made, it's always helpful to see how others work with clay no matter how many videos I've watched before, I always learn something new from new videos. Thanks for sharing.

    • @FirstDayofHome
      @FirstDayofHome  14 днів тому +1

      That’s a great tip! It’s hard to avoid some wrinkles, but that may help. I also flip the dish over after the inside dries a bit and sand the bottom once everything is done. That helps to minimize wrinkles too. I’m always learning from this wonderful audience as well!❤️

    Those are all some great ideas!! I use air dry clay a lot, but with moulds and I attach the pieces to other projects, mainly furniture. Rather than try to get the wet clay to stick to dry clay just use good ol' tacky glue. I have to glue clay to clay, or wood, or glass or even plastic and I found that the Tacky Glue excels at. Thanks for giving me some good ideas to make some air dry clay projects that aren't using moulds! I love the cross and beads and definitely the trinket dish!

    How can you ask me which I prefer as far as matching the originals?
    They were all spot on, or better. I loved the beads. So many ideas were going through my head, you can't imagine. I liked the bird, but can't decide if I liked him as you made him than had you given him more colorful ones. Sorry, I come here from the world of resin, where most of the creatures have colorful eyes. Channel owners are always coming up with ways to make eyes more realistic. It's a challenge to each other which I love watching.
    Resin is about color. Clay isn't necessarily even painted. That's why I am torn.
    I hope to see you (and friends) again very soon.

Yes, I did use foil both times. You’ll use a lot less clay that way, and it will dry more quickly. Here’s a blog post for your reference as well: www.firstdayofhome.com/diy-bead-garland/

    • @FirstDayofHome

      It will become charred if it comes into direct contact with flames. I would use an LED candle for a short candleholder made with air dry clay.

  • @SharonCullenArt
    @SharonCullenArt Місяць тому +1

    I've never seen anyone dry pieces and add to it before. The reason for not doing this is that it weakens the joins. I don't understand why you didn't do them all at once and just let it dry, flip it and let it dry. Especially the clock. Also using slip between pieces being joined is essential to prevent cracking it breaking. It makes the piece stronger. All that being said they all look lovely and I no the results were amazing. And I thought your bird looked nicer than the store bird. If they were side by side in the store I would've chose yours!

    • @FirstDayofHome
      @FirstDayofHome  Місяць тому

      Hi Sharon! Thanks for dropping by. Do you have some clay tutorials you've done (or like) that I can watch? I'm always learning myself. The clock was the trickiest of all the projects because it was difficult to keep it sturdy even with the armature. You have a great point about using slip. I learn something new every time, so I will probably do some things differently in the future. Fortunately, nothing I made has cracked (yet), but I'm no expert. Thanks for the compliments on the bird. I hope I've inspired others to give sculpting a try. I'll check out your channel too!❤

    • @theeditor1149
      @theeditor1149 17 днів тому +1

      I do agree that creating a whole piece at once makes the entire clay piece stronger but air dry clay can be reactivated again with some water and in this video she does reactivate the dry clay edges with water, which creates slip automatically which then helps the wet clay to adhere to the dry clay a bit. Of course there may some weakness to the joint. But air dry clay is very forgiving, I have made a large trinket dish that I messed up, I took the whole piece and put it in a ziplock bag filled with water and let it sit for a short while, it doesn't need too long to soften up. I could then stretch and roll it into a ball and start again. There are pros and cons to this because it means air dry clay items need to be sealed well to prevent moisture from breaking it down but this also means you can always fix mistakes.

    • @FirstDayofHome
      @FirstDayofHome  14 днів тому +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience! The challenge with the clock was clamping it together to prevent joints from shifting and having four clay sides. It would’ve been very hard (for me with my skill level) to maintain a good form with four wet sides. Every project has unique challenges, and I’m sure there are many different ways to sculpt something. I’m by no means a professional sculptor, so I love hearing how others would do things. Together we can learn so much from each other!

      No, I paint it first and then apply Mod Podge after the paint dries.

      @rereaprillia4778 Have you watched this video where I applied multiple colors? It might help you. You just paint it any colors you like and let it dry. Then seal it. ua-cam.com/video/lIfWjLuXCHY/v-deo.htmlsi=cMnihC007LgqkFza

    can i use oil paint to air dry clay

    • @FirstDayofHome
      @FirstDayofHome  Рік тому

      Hi Aileen! Yes, you can use oil paint. You may want to seal it first with an acrylic gloss medium before painting or test a small piece. Make sure the piece is completely dry before painting. ❤️

    Schrumpft die Modelliermasse nicht beim trocknen. Es würde ja Risse geben.

      You have to break down the cost of the beads actually used. I had a lot left over for other projects.
