As someone who's temporarily made the jump from Tekken to SF6 this guide is IMMENSELY helpful, thank you Justin!
zzz likewise!
Saaaame
The amount of people that have switched over from Tekken to street fighter for the time being is still a bit surprising but I've done the same so I get it
Legit came from tekken cause I was invited to a local tourney with the lads, got a month to transition some skills but it is indeed different. Cheers, learning on classic
Would you say transitioningh from Tekken to SF6 is better than transitioning from Elden Ring to SF6?
0:00 Drive Parry (fireballs, perfects, avoid the huge combo, supers)
3:56 Drive Impact (cancelable normals, armor, Drive Impact traps)
7:13 Whiff Punishing (range, sweeps)
8:38 Drive Rush (buffer from cancelable normal, why Drive Rush, stopping the immediate Drive Rush with a good attack, D. Rush to D. Impact; adv tech with jab)
14:08 Exhaust (adds frames, chip damage, don’t be quick to do the dizzy combo; how to take away gauge, how to stop Impact while exhausted, get back gauge)
Hope this helps!
I watched the whole video before seeing this. But I will need it when playing tonight. Thanks!!!
hell yeah
Big ups 👍🏼And Thanks
Not all heroes wear capes! Thank you for the timestamps!
Thanks
Played sf4 too young to understand fighting games. But fell in love with the community and fighting game concepts in general. First street fighter I've ever bought, hell preorder. I've been playing world tour, if you are new, and I mean BRAND NEW, play it. The game spoon feeds you a little, but the primary goal of how it is set up feels like they are teaching you the basics. What chains in what, how to extend, punish. It has been a fantastic way to learn timing, it actively makes you learn mix ups and how to use all 3 of your bars effectively. Very proud I bought it, very proud of Capcom for thinking ahead for people like me. I'm excited to start my streetfighter path.
World Tour mode is so amazing especially as a new player like you said. I just wish they'd had more time to work on it because the ending felt so unbelievably rushed. The second to last fight against Bosch just being a complete stat check designed to drain all your items and not an actual fight, followed by a pretty anticlimactic JP fight, was very disappointing. Especially after playing the mode and enjoying every minute of it for the 40+ hours I played up to that point. Can't wait to see how they continue it with DLC though.
@@Goukimane feel like the dlcs may be bigger than we, or at least I, think. Probably a good couple missions and such.
@@TacticalReaper56t definitely feels to me like all the new DLC characters will find a spot in world tour, both in the tiny built out stages that you can travel to outside of the cities but also with new areas added to Metro City and Nayshall. There's already a "(!)" for the day time master slot for Nayshall and people are speculating it'll be for Rashid as the first DLC character. I personally think it'll be Bosch 2.0 after he's healed from being roasted like a peanut.
@@Goukimane bosch definitely should become a character I think. Fun spazy character.
Got home from work and played this for 6hrs straight. My fundamentals are all over the place and I'm learning how not to mash buttons as much. Great tutorials, Justin.
Zangief is gonna be a problem
@@g-dub5272 personally loving E Honda
@@g-dub5272 do you think zangeif is bad? Me and my brother play a lot of smash and MK casually but this Is our first time playing a street fighter game and we’re trying our luck online. We started off playing Guile but were getting destroyed so we started Playing zangief. We have been able to make it to bronze but now all of our opponents are reading us like a book. Who’s the best “intro” character in your opinion?
@@IE9799 - Ryu is all around solid so far. His combos are pretty straightforward, damage is good, can play at most ranges, has strong answers for most situations. Ken is similar but has a little more flourish to learn and may be a little better after you get really into him.
@@IE9799 JP is good intro character
One thing to note is that perfect parry doesnt cost drive meter at all, so if blocking a fireball would put you into burnout, you can perfect parry to keep your gauge.
damn. good tip!!!
IDK if this is still in the game but one crazy thing I saw during the beta was a guy had less than a bar of Drive Gauge and his opponent tried to raw super. The dude just held the parry, and parrying the entire super refilled his Drive Gauge almost instantly.
So if you smell a super coming, parry it.
EDIT: Derp, should have continued watching the video before coming down here to comment. Justin said the same thing I just said.
@@matrix3509 That still works. As long as you have a little bit of bar left. The game will let you use an action that requires more than what you have. You're only out of luck when you're at absolute zero, or exhausted.
If you're still trying to get good, though, you might not be able to just bust out a perfect parry on command, so I don't know if it's something I'd hedge any bets on if I'm about to burn out.
@phaseshifter3d455 as an absolute noob, i abused the heck out of this to scare my roommate whom had been playing for years.
I was playing Ryu
I essentially went from fodder to: punch you in the mouth .3 seconds of the round, (L1) get a Heavy super out (super and heavy at the same time) before leaping over to combo with low mediums and a mix of lights, and using the what i now know is the "Parry" on every punch he threw (i memorized how he attacked)
Before L1, heavy super, and the mix took him out.
I ended up not being hit, and feeling like i had committed an asshole Combo.
This is a perfect video dude. A lot of people mess up when learning a new fighting game. Learn the game mechanics before anything. That means, learn everything in this video via game mechanics before any normals, specials, and combos etc... everything Justin talks about here will start you off better than most players.
Whats are neutral hits ? And what are cancelable neutral hits (standing medium punch? ) use ryu as a example please
@@ravend5595 Neutral hits are attacks that come from a neutral position (Standing or crouching) and don't need to be combo'd into, it's the attack you use to get into a combo
Justin literally getting the very first guide post-launch on the internet!
That's literally so literal. Literally.
@@PayneWewtonDon't be pedantic.
@@PayneWewtonlmao I agree bro, the word has been on E for months and people can't let it go.
Lets pretend they havent had the game for weeis
This man knows his SF. Respect. Learning the games mechanics is smart.
JW is the SF god 🙏
He looks like it too. Dude looks like he hasn’t showered in months.
@@woodsy.2977 if u make bank and play games for a living i wouldn’t worry about looks all that much
Been playing sf for 20 years but mostly vs cpu or friends i knew which was very rare. This is the first street fighter ive gotten the chance to test myself vs others and its tough to undo bad habits over the years, mashing, constantly jumping in.. whats helped me is realizing that with practice and time ill get better and to just try and have fun and learn each match. There are tons of good players that really opened my eyes to how deep the mechanics can get. You gotta be ok with getting humbled
Couldn't agree with this more👍🏾😂
For anyone looking to practice perfect drive parries, there's the basketball minigame in World Tour mode, and the final difficulty of it requires perfect parries to complete it so it's pretty good training.
The first thing to do after watching this is to watch it again for a second time while practicing. This is gold. Absolutely essential viewing if you’re serious about SF6
Well said!
This is a great tip. I haven’t bought SF6 yet but I’m watching this video to at least get a taste of the interactions before I get started. This is really nice to get a sense of the game more intimately than with raw gameplay, but I definitely see myself coming back here to really put it all into practice when I have it in my hands👍🏽
@@Jacobro02 watch Rooflemongers how to choose your main and beginners guide. Watching all three of those videos will give you a major advantage going in. This has been the most efficiently and professionally covered fighting game ever and it only just released.
This video is gold. I'm making a list of everything to practice day one and getting use to parrying fireballs and drive rush and wiff punishing low forward are my personal top priorities
I started playing street fighter 6 & OMG I was losing ridiculously . I had 18 losses. Thank you Justin for the gaming advice I left cod mw3 in the dumpster. I wanna get back into. Fighting games
The dash during drive parry during combos is insane. Got the game yesterday and tried some challenge combos to get back into it. I haven't played since SF4 and on SF4 I had completed all challenges with all characters. 5 years ish without playing Street fighter (or any fighter) + I'm 37 now. Even jump HK to a fireball motion took me time to get back. Either the HK doesn't register or the fireball gives me a dragon punch instead. And DPs facing left are hard too. Damn I'm rusty but one thing I can say this game is fun.
I admit this is actually pretty helpful advice coming from someone who is diving into street fighter for the first time like I want to play the game a lot that’s how much I wanted to play this. This is some of the best advice I’ve heard in a while that actually makes sense.
Ohhh, just the Perfect Drive Parry to Drive Rush sounds good! I notice the warning of less damage from a DR combo, we gotta remember these things.
I bought a Fuji FX Pro one camera from some guy named Lee off of reddit. We had a great conversation and I told him I had just bought street fighter five. This is how long ago this was. I did admit I had no idea what I was doing, and he offered to help me for free of me paying for the camera. What proceeded was a great five freaking months of tutoring on how to play streetfighter five. I just bought street fighter six and I suck. Where is Lee when I need him?
Some guys I play online tends to drive impact after I jump hk. I just throw them. But this video is really helpful! Ty Justin!
I typically Dry Brush when Weathering for Max Impact on my Gundam Model Kits. Oh, sorry. Wrong channel. Thanks for the Pro Tips, Justin!
cancelling into drive impact from a normal to help reaction timing is some goat advice right there. Didn't realize you could even do that
Thank you, Justin. Best advice I’ve heard. I need to get better with drive rushes when creating openings into combos with Ryu, before I get serious to rank up and in tournaments.
To differentiate between drive rush and drive cancel:
drive rush is the one you need to press parry that you do in the neutral game and costs 1 bar,
drive cancel is when you cancel(inside a combo) into double tap forward and costs 3 bars.
I don’t know, but playing the full game made me feel like I was way better in the last open beta than I am now. I’m glad I could find videos like this at this moment so that i can learn the way and continue my journey
After 3 days and over 150 rounds against a platinum homie, this vod helped me take my first legit W. LETS GO JUSTIN
There’s an overwhelming amount to learn in the short term, but it becomes a breeze once you master most of the combos. The arcade mode is helpful.
Just to add: Avatar battles are a different ballpark. Arcade mode battles are what the guy is discussing.
First thing I did was beat the game with each character on easy mode.
its a breeze once you mastered everything... lol 😂
I'm new to fgs but a souls vet, I didn't properly understand the Drive meter until someone on another videos comments section described it as a Stamina Bar. All of sudden it's like... ohhhh, all those interations make so much more sense when thinking of it in that context.
lol I learned so little from this... because I still struggle with basic QCF and QCB inputs. Reddit and other sources claim the inputs required have been slowed down than in previous titles, which completely perplexes me.
Ur probably just bad sorry to break it to you
as someone who's only pretty much just been an anime fgc gamer (Melty blood/ggst,xrd) and just bought SF6 literally 2 days ago because i want to play a more strategic and slower paced fg, this guide is super helpful!
(I have sfv/iv but I don't like playing controller and I don't know how to set keyboard binds..)
I've been playing SF6 all morning today & it's such a relief that this game has so much content from day one. And yes, i already know how to play street fighter, just listening to Justin talk about the new mechanics is interesting
First street fighter game, so I appreciate this Justin. Cheers
Cheers Just me old mate. I've played SF for 30 years and decided this version is the one that I'll actually take seriously and get my skills above mid-tier 🤣
You must be around 37/38 like myself. I too have played from a youngster, shaking the whole arcade machine on SF2 when ever dhalsim or guile came up lol. I too want to play this seriously after half asking SF4, starting SF5 very late and by then there were too many smurfs and second/third accounts to really get a grip of my skills. This? I’m starting on day one and it looks really fun :)
Lol us old heads are back
this is the FIRST TIME im seeing REAL QUALITY content from you ; AWSOME THUMBS UP that's content whichh will help players!!
More please for sure! This kind of discussion is so much better than yet-another-combo-video.
What an exceptional guide... No fillers or over-hyping. Great examples & explanations of system facts directly from The Fundamental Gawd himself.
As if you uploaded this at the exact time I was watching your "How to get good at fighting games" video. Looks like the stars aligned right in time for the release tonight!
I Gotta Learn This Game All Over again I’m Having a Tough Time Atm lol Ranked Matches
After playing Tekken for so long, playing SF feels like i'm a brick with no real idea of what i'm doing
I’m definitely into SF6 hard rn but how did you get better at tekken? My first is Tekken 7 and before I only really played mortal kombats and the 2 injustice games (and smash ofc)
No fr, the amount of universal mechanics skyrocket im so used to just learning my opponent's character's moves I forgot what it feels like to learn a whole game
Eyy Tekken gang. Yeahh a whole new field of study. Shit is wack
@volktol4432 Personally its just been accumulating muscle memory. Remembering punishes, landing combos, sidestepping correctly. You hafta do all this shit on auto pilot so you can totally focus on learning how your opponent likes to play so you can best blow them up
Same. It's the confirms, punishes, and combo timings that are really fucking me up
First time I'm getting into fighting, this one is super fun. This time I will learn it and get good at it. Thanks for the tips
I'm quite young my Dad introduced street fighter to me as my first game street fighter 2 on super Nintendo and then my old man got me playstation and I got the 30th collection and it had 3rd strike I loved it know sf is my favorite fighting game I have been playing sf all my life.
I love this break down of the basics. So much more information then so just do this cause its correct and moving on that most fight game streamers do.
one of my biggest issues when learning how to play SF5 (Tekken 5 also, and MKX) was losing, i hated it, but you have to learn to take these losses and improve, being patient is a big thing in these games, especially when going online and playing against super sweaty dudes who play the game like its their main job in life, you're going to lose a lot, but eventually if you keep playing games you'll start winning some, and that is when it starts to become satisfying.
With the universal mechanics-DP, PP, and DI-this reminds me of and feels like the dynamics found in 3S. Nothing is safe, and the order of the day is mix ups. Mix ups for days. I love this.
one thing to clarify is that drive parry only reduces the damage of the next combo if you get it perfect. a normal drive parry does not reduce damge
I've been playing this game since STF2 Super! But I've only taken Stf seriously for a few years!!! I have a tattoo of Tiger upper cut dp combo!!! But I never knew about the finer points & lingo of the game. Shout out 2 J Wong, Punk da God, & Smug!! I always play as a super fan of the game! Though I was good.....until I started watching these guys footage!!! My game has stepped up tremendously!! Thanks for all your content homie!!!🙏🇺🇲🌍
We can tell lol you call it stf . Its just SF lol
My first sf and I’m looking forward to the journey. Thanks for the tips.
how is it going so far?
Thank you. I am definitely taking notes. Glad I was able to start playing this game early. Didn't play street fighter V until 2021.
I am terrible at fighting games and always been like maybe average at best as someone almost done with world tour thats kind of stuck and scared of online this is very helpful I will try to work on things and improve because I love the game and Characters so far. Especially Luke, Juri, Cammy, Manon, and Blanka.
as a newbie in fighting game, and street fighter 6 is my first fighting game i learning to play it well, thanks fot the videos, hope i can play good in the future
Due to not having the game yet, its my first time feeling like a noob in sf in over 20 years 😅 I'm grateful for being able to feel the appreciation that newer players feel and have felt for years. Great video my guy💯
I'm a Mortal Kombat player and it's so much different to me actually.
I didn’t need this video, and still watched because I love me some content. IMO the best advice was the tip on dizzy’s, and not giving them back their resources. Good video!
This just helped me gain the amount of knowledge and skill that would have taken me about 6 months to get on my own. This is such a time saver that is extremely useful for busy adults. Thanks for this.
6months!?! Da fuck lmao
I have this feeling this isn't anywhere close to all i need to even begin getting good but it had some helpful info still.
My friend and I game share and he’s played SF and other fighting games much more than I have. We both play on classic but he has that old muscle memory and keeps fucking me up. Thanks for this video. It may help me in practicing so I don’t lose every match to him like I been
My school just opened a e sports team and they have thus game IM SO EXCITED
Good luck bro
Just getting into SF6 and this was super helpful, thanks man
This video is amazing, after watching it I was able to get into silver rank the same day, I've never been able to do that in any street fighter game before and I've been playing them for 10+ years
@11:20 "Settle down, baby. Settle down" -the ever popular, greatly renowned Justin Wong!
Excellent Resource for us Casuals 🎉🎉🎉
Im just now getting into SF 📝✍🏽
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I remember you borrowing my stick at EVO 2010.
Great content pal keep em coming. You probably don't remember this but I'm from Ireland (live in FL now) and you gave me advice on what stick to get in 2010. Still have my madcatz TE pro, works like a charm
Thank you Justin! All these I was trying to figure out day 1. Now I can tailor my training.
This is dope information. There’s so much to learn… maybe too much? Even the way you’re doing inputs are blowing my mind.
That DI cancel tip is so good as opponents in my rank use DI a lot to stuff out my punish attempts and setups. Didn't know you could special cancel into it. This is my first serious try at modern SF after coming from T7, still getting used to the systems and mechanics. Hopefully this video would push me into Gold with enough practice.
Wow... Things have moved on from when I was playing SF2 in a convenience store in like 1992
Even this stuff is WAY too advanced for me already haha
Justin you're the goat. Thanks for being so kind to share these tips with us.
This is a good informational video. Many of the stuff you covered, I've done instinctively without knowing tbh but the 3 drive extension rush is new to me.
I was having a tough time breaking combos last night. Rematch after rematch, after rematch. This video is CLUTCH!
More please 🙏
New to street fighter and this video helped a lot, more like this pls👍👍👍👍
im so excited abt this game!!! im pretty new to traditional fighting games (i played a lot of SSBU) so im trying to learn best i can. super to the point and helpful video- thank you!!
1st street fighter in over 10years really looking forward to this game.
Thanks man i just bought SF6 and its basically my first fighting game which i want to play seriously, only played the story of MK10/11 so far and im absolutely trash in fighting games, but im gonna practice and hopefully get better. This video helps.
I'm in the same boat. My friends and I play a lot or MK11. I tried the demo for sf6 cause I wanted a game to hold me over until mk1 drops. Ended up buying it and it has me trying to get good and take it serious more than mk11 ever has.
I know this isn’t MK but MK1 got me back into 11 and it made me sad because I was getting heavy into it wanting to go to a tourney lol. But I’m definitely not missing out on the competitive scene with SF6, MK1 and T8. Goddamn when’s the last time these 3 franchises were going at it neck and neck like this?? What a time to be alive
Great video. Let's go Justin.
SF6 will be my first serious venture into fighting games after mainly playing mk and nrs games, wish me luck!
Looking forward to see you get Daigo parried in SF6 tournament my man!
Anyone can Daigo parry with 1 button in SF6.
You can punish right after a perfect parry so no point of chaining perfect parry. I might be wrong about this though
@@MrQuay03 Anyone CAN Daigo parry.
But no one GET Daigo parried like JWong.
Plan to pick this game up and try to learn SF again, this guide is very helpful. I havent played since SF3.
Great guide man
Even going through the tutorials first, this was great to watch and hear your perspective.
Let's get more. I like this. Frame data talk goes over my head because I'm just so new. But I think watching this a few times will sink in for me.
Very helpful video! Keep these coming! I like how its general tips.
You could do character specific later too
Amazing video, will be sure to study it if I forget stuff. It never dawned on me to use cancelable normal into drive impact to react to DI. Excited to also see what people do with 3 DR.
The parry sound is so satisfying 💟
DANG! Thanks for the details. I'm mostly on normals/specials & movement for all characters for generalized knowledge.
I’m old. I haven’t been playing fighting games in the arcades after SFA. Just downloaded SF6. I’m totally F***ed! Thx Justin, much apreesh on this video.
got into fighting games when my now good friend showed me dbfz. and this is going to be my first sf that i get into on launch. hopefully i can improve my inputs becuase damn im still soooo sloppy on arcade stick, but overall im having alotta fun. hopefully we get more super helpful guides later down the line :)
I like how he breaks the game down. Wish I had this advice the last few street fighters. Lol. But I think this the one I come back for
That was so informative and well presented it blew me away. I went from button mashing to playing the game thank you
Love the modern inputs, let's me focus on strategy 💟
great video Jwong, as always!
I'm from the SF2 generation and never really got into SF3. I played SF4 and a bit of SF5 but now with SF6 it seems even more complicated. I'll get around to buying it but with a lot of games these days finding the time to sit down and learn the ins and outs to make the most of it is the off putting part. Having a young family obviously plays a big factor in that. Great vid tho 👌
Thank you Justin for your help it's totally priceless information ❤
I haven't played a SF since those arcade machines they used to have in early 2005 Pizza Huts next to the Need for Speed cabinet
i love when things automally come out
Let's go we need more content like this, is really helpful
Thank you Justin! More please!
Mr Wong is just-in to teach you the basics!
4:24 Blue and green characters got that color buff
