To be on set see not only the actors, but more importantly the characters had to truly be a surreal and magical experience! Especially growing up seeing these characters in movies and cartoons, playing with action figure of them, and then seeing them right there before your eyes? Hell, I would have started tearing up myself!!
Lars was like The Real Ghostbuaters cartoon Egon.

A couple answers from my headcanon:
• How did Lucky get the internship? Her summer boyfriend moved to NY to become a Ghostbuster and he gave her Winston's number.
• What's the weak point of the film/how would I fix? Give the ionic separator a liiittle bit more explanation so it makes more sense that Phoebe knows how to use it and knows she'll survive. ALSO yeah, put the Ghostbusters theme song right after Garakka's cold opening scene. 100%.
• When did Melody die? Probably the 1980s.
• How do you feel about Nadim's fire bending? Big swing, definitely felt like an episode of the cartoon, but Kumail was so great that he made me love the character and his abilities.
• More Bill Murray? Yes, please.
• Was Garakka a good villain? Oh hell yes.
How did Lucky get an internship? She met Winston HERSELF on Afterlife when they Busted Ghosts together.
Why was Venkman randomly wearing sunglasses? (And a clip from that scene used in a recently released short on Ghostbusters official UA-cam?)
I really appreciate y'all's take on Frozen Empire. It really felt like the right move post Afterlife, which was emotionally heavy. I got so much Ghostbusters 2 and Real GB feeling from FE. I truly don't get the hate from fans. No Ghostbusters movie is grounded in reality! The lore is wide open for expansion. My only critique is I wanted more. Y'all keep up the great work. It's appreciated and enjoyed.
The loudest ones in the room are usually the super geek fans who have their own idea of perfect film. I’m a super fan myself but me and my 15 yr old daughter have thoroughly enjoyed Afterlife and Frozen Empire. My daughter thinks they are genuinely hilarious. I was in the theater with a few young kids and they didn’t get all the jokes but they were totally into the adventure aspect of the film. It’s just great family sci fi and those old guys that insist on an original cast film just have to adjust.
Frozen Empire is supposed to start the new trilogy. Afterlife was part 3 of trilogy 1.

I'm sure Winston met with Lucky's father, the town sheriff. Also, now that I think of it. Did he ask Phoebe "who you Gonna Call?" BECAUSE he pulled them over in Ecto One?.was he trolling her?
I felt like I watched Ray pass the torch in Frozen Empire but what I crave from a sequel would be Venkman doing some passing - to Pheobe, perhaps, maybe on a side adventure or something. I just want more Venkmaaaan.

With regards to lucky using the new proton packs before they were officially unveiled, my thought was they were there at the Paranormal research center being built/worked on/tested and lucky grabbed one off a bench or table to go fight Garraka out of necessity.
She was haunting the Melody restaurant. She said it's a family name.

I really wanna see the stuff that they cut out from the trailers and tv spots. Especially the Bill Murray and Paul Rudd scene. Any time an original ghostbuster is on screen, it is heavily valued!
Agree with pretty much all of the points you make. First time I saw the movie I thought it could have been 10-15 minutes longer.
Also, as a Bill Murray fan, loved the shout-out for What About Bob? which I don't think enough people have seen (in my current profile pic here I'm wearing my "Don't Hassle Me I'm Local" tee, which I think people really only get if they've seen the movie).
Question: Did you guys get to see any of the red parkas that weren't in the movie ie Grooberson's?
Definitely song after the first sequence, ray and Winston continues to mentor new team, James Gunn to direct the next one! Yes guardians style but with horror and a great song list

This is one instance where I wish I didn't have to give credit where credit is due, but that "new" wrist proton weapon we see Janine using is taken directly from Ghostbusters 2016. That's a Holtzman original.
Actually it was taken (and slightly modified) from the IDW comics. It appeared there BEFORE GB2016

Venkman never spoke to Peck. Wow.
He did at the end, but that scene was edited to hell.
While I did love the film, there's an aspect of nitpicking that is hard to ignore: the bloated cast versus the short run time. This contradicting blend meant that in this film which logically being the second torch passing movie in a row meant that there's no way we could expect the '84 team to appear again in any meaningful capacity down the road without undermining the new group. The new group who still feels undetermined... is it the four members of the Spengler family or is it the four kids who saved Summerville?
The nitpicking that I have with the film is that I feel that Patton Oswalt as Dr. Hubert Wartzki only demostrated that Ray wasn't good enough to handle the heavy Occult study lifting on his own. The extended cannon of Spirits Unleashed and The Ghost Lord on the other hand (both released between Afterlife and Frozen Empire) demonstrate a Ray fully handling the reigns of Occult duty now that he doesn't have his old pal Egon to assist.
We did not need less time with Ray to add another character. I love the energy which Patton Oswalt as Dr. Hubert Wartzki brought to the film. However, honestly, I would had been happier with Ray doing the exposition and just a name drop. (Or have a second post credit, where Dr. Wartzki is told another Adventure Society canister recording is discovered. Something which could had teased more films and opened the door for this new character once the OG's are considered gone, gone.)
At the moment, Gil Kenan confirmed there ARE very good scenes which were scrapped that WILL BE included on the Special Features however insisted there would be no extended cut. (There were scenes in the trailer and in interviews from Rudd which suggested there were comedic banter scenes between the two of them that we never got.) So, until we see those cut scenes... it feels strange nitpicking for aspects other than the runtime for the number of characters presented felt weird.
That's really interesting. My instinct is to say "there are no scenes I would cut," but the way you frame it is interesting: "what scenes/characters would you cut to make space for more scenes with the rest of the cast?" So... as much as I loved Patton Oswalt's character, I'd cut him and give his scenes to Ray, Podcast, and Phoebe. I loved Kumail Nanjiani's character and performance, but I'd cut his character and give his gear to Callie or Gary and make the ancient ghostbusting be gear-based instead of inherited powers. Then I'd do a montage in the middle with Gary/Callie/Trevor out on calls while depressed Phoebe is back home tinkering with gear, bonding with Melody, and running experiments on the Ionic Separator.

However, the major notes are:
* Extend the Run-Time
* Limit Kumail Nanjiani's character to a cameo of finding and delivering the orb.
* Limit Patton Oswalt's character in the main runtime to a name drop
* Have Patton Oswalt's character's send Ray a copy of the recording
* Discover the recording contains the Unsealing Spell... and later in the recording (and later in the movie)... discover the sealing spell is on the recording. (Which reactivates the Mystical Sphere Trap)
* Use the recording to free Garraka... allow Phoebe's romance to be just that... a teenager thing
* Have Garraka's horns be in a museum display
* Have the Mystical Sphere Trap to fail to trap... only bind due to the recording being incomplete... have Melody reinforce the Mystical Trap so the end scene containment can go as is
* Add a Callie/Gary romantic scene
* Add a Gary/Trevor both get slimmed by Slimer as Gary tries to bond with Trevor
* Swap the post-credit for Trevor naming Slimer (start of friendship)
* Add a post credit scene with Patton Oswalt's character on the phone with Ray about realizing what happened and says he knows that the Guardian who sealed Garraka back in the 1920's had a journal indicating their linage may have been the ones who killed Vigo (as a human) and wasn't in NYC for the Garraka originally... teasing that either another movie OR something which justifies Ghostbusters being back in business (since the 80's movies established that these big multiverse beings / spells tapping into that magic only leave hauntings in the area for a short period after the fact.)
I would still have another character be the key to using the Sealing spell with the Mystical Sphere Trap. I would tie them to the Museum robbery of Garraka re-obtaining the horns. I would have Mystical Sphere Trap land in Kumail Nanjiani's character's hands and be implied to have happened before the events of the movie and be the start of NYC hauntings. I would not have a Fire Bender save the day. Instead, I would NOT introduce a new character to be the Act 3 solution but instead add an existing character in the mythos to serve as both the spell caster to perform the sealing and tie into musuem robbery. The who should be obvious as it would add an amazing dynamic to the Peter introgration scene.
(I still need to underline that I enjoyed the movie. However, if I am going to play devil's advocate and try to raise the opinions of Critics... that's my hot take.)

What happened to the Ghost phosphor that is listed in the production notes but nowhere in the movie?
Why was so much cut out?

That’s the direct description from the production notes and trust me that ghost is not in the film.

Re read the description. I have seen the film 3 times. Phosphor was not in the film. And the blue ghost with sharp teeth that nearly breaks out of the black tank does not feature in the production notes. Think someone has said it’s called me bones or something to that effect t. My theory? When doing re shoots and final edits they cut phosphor and added the unnamed ghost. One possible reason was to help hide Bill Murray from the PRC intro scene while adding another scary ghost to the film. I’m pretty sure the production designer mentions Phosphor to Adam Savage in the set tour video of the paranormal research centre and shows a tank that’s totally different to any seen in the film.
That would also explain the black tank video malted to all the others as you’re essentially covering up a ghost and tank enclosure with blackness and a new ghost design.
Venkman, Stantz and Zeddemore never even spoke to each other in FE. It was disappointing.
Question: Why did it have to be Phoebe that opened the orb?
I was gonna respond "it didn't have to be her, it had to be some ghost the Garaka couldn't control, but a human has to say the words, so it had to be a willing human or a living human body with its spirit out so Garaka could control it blah blah blah" but then I remembered Melody's "Why does it have to be her?" line which is obviously what you were asking about, and now I have the same question... So... maybe because it had to be someone with access to the research center, and Troubled Teen is the best candidate?

Question: How does the Containment grid hold Garraka when no brass was put inside it?
Brass was to keep him from freezing the proton stream
@@edwardjohnson6744 It was what the Devil's Testicle was made of, and they said several times that they used brass to trap Garraka.
@JasonDeline - Right and phoebe melted the pole down etc... Ray explains how the containment unit can trap him and they tell him to shut up and just do it.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought the characters would have to control their fear in order to avoid being frozen.
@@ghostbusterscollector8593 yeah, I really thought the Library ghost was going to just be in Ray's head as one of his biggest fears, and then Garraka, the frosty Freddy Krueger, can freeze him.

Why did Phoebe just say „Dad!“ to Gary? Feels odd to me. Gil should have written her at least one line, to drop that D-bomb in. Otherwise: LOVED the Movie!

There definitely is going to be an extended version of this movie. I know the director said that the theatrical version is his version blah blah blah. David Ayer said the same thing about Suicide Squad when it first came out. He swore up and down that the theatrical version was his directors cut and we all know that's a lie now. This movie reeks of studio interference.

I really wanted to get your opinion as you're my new go-to GB experts. :-) As I think about it more, I guess I just prefer my bad-guys being more of the supernaturals and my good guys saving the day with guts and science. Also yeah Phoebe isn't new anymore...but I love how they zoom in on her face...showing that courage, when she's throwing protons...That girl has got grit!

In The Real Ghostbusters episode 'Take Two' it shows that the Ghostbusters movie is fictional, but in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire it shows that The Real Ghostbusters are fictional.

Why does Phoebe willingly risk her life by separating her soul from her body?
She's a teenager! The whole interaction with Melody is full of teen romanic vibes. Phoebe is an odd duck which any of us other odd ducks can confirm... teenage years in terms of romance and hormones made us all consider doubting ourselves and trying to do what ever it takes to impress who we want to be with. No matter how dumb that is.
I don't understand how in this film when the lead teenage does something that will risk the whole world for romance is being challenged but being a trope in so many movies were its brushed off as normal behavor.
@@UncannyGirl It doesn't make any sense. She has no reason to risk her life in that way.
@@UncannyGirl I agree, though I feel like it would be in her character to test it first, or maybe we see the researchers already running experiments on separating spirits from possessed rats or birds (maybe it fails to pull out the spirit, but we see it's a non-fatal process, so she uses her smarts to tweak the settings to make it work?)
Let’s be honest, it’s a terrible film.
We all love the original from 1984, but we need to move on.
I wouldn't say it's terrible, but I don't think it's a good film. I just found it very mediocre and forgettable. It isn't funny. It isn't scary. It's filled with a bunch of characters which I couldn't give a xxxx about. It has a convoluted and confusing plot. Overall I just found it a very bland and boring experience.
I hope Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan aren't given the opportunity to touch Ghostbusters again, not even with a ten metre cattle prod.
