Adam - you may want to install some netting material in your building above your saw mill prior to moving in, keeping the bird droppings off your equipment.

Suggest turning the firewood conveyers 180 degrees and have them all outside. Allows greater arc swing of conveyers to load baskets and gives an entire bay of extra room under roof. It puts you and the engine under roof and the conveyers and the baskets outside and gives you tons of extra "room for activities".

Hi Adam, pallet racks. Start market-placing for used ones. Both for the barn itself and the lean-tos.
It will double up your space.
It's great for attachments, fuel storage etc.

Start a compost business using your sawdust and get a mulcher. Get chickens to turn the compost. Then you can sell mulch and compost along with firewood to give you balanced income in the spring and summer.

Maybe think about heavy duty mats like they put in horse stalls for around your wood processor. You would be able to sweep up all the wood scraps.

Adam i would move the ibc totes to dry into the bottom yard which is now free. Keep the area around the new building clutter free and tidy to look at from the road. You dont want to take the tidy or well presented look away from your beautiful home or pond having it looking too commercial. Im so happy for you, your living my dream

You're going to have to use the space for a little while and then just do some tweaks to make things more efficient. It seems to me that there is going to be a bottle neck with getting all of the split fire wood out from between the splitters and the lumber mill. What I would do is to make a scale drawing (cartoon) with the space that is available, include posts that you will have to work around, then using pieces of paper cut to scale, on business card stock, you can move these around until you find the right fit for efficiency. You will still have to work with the layout a while to work out the bugs. Great video Adam thumbs up.

For the attachment storage, I'd go with pallet racking if you're going to stack items.
Also, because of your acreage and now wood yard with a building, I would look into a wild fire trailer/set up. When your pond is filling again, you have a great source to draft from and prevent tragedy from destroying your hard work.

I also just finished a 30 X 40 heated shop building. I live in Iowa. Another option you have is to concrete one bay as a maintenance bay to get off the gravel, work on machines, etc. You could also consider a work pit to get under machines…and/or an overhead I-beam stand with a chain hoist.

Instead of gravel I would suggest asphalt millings, spread and compact in place, easier to clean than gravel but no mud, and can be used as a good base for concrete later.
ETA: you might consider a dust extractor to suck and dump the sawdust outside into a tote bladder.

#1 you will find you will need lean two buildings for lumber / firewood storage and drying areas. Having those will let you keep your lumber dry and it presents better to customers. #2 as for attachments under roof is all ways best, as hoses dry rot extra.. if you can get your self some havey duty racks , you might be able to stack some stuff. facebook markets place is good for that.. I guess it come down to what your market is more, fire wood or lumber? I sujest 8 to 10 ft deep lean two's with 10 ft wide openings. some 18 ft if possible.. get the Hard scape done is all ways the most $$$$$. things will change as you grow.

If I could make one suggestion before you start using your Japa and the other splitters I would raise them with treated lumber to a better height for someone your size . Ive noticed you hump you shoulders and back when you use this and other machines . As a person whose a tad bit older I know that what you do as a young person affects the way you body will be when you older . Maybe just raising the Japa 3 to 5 inches up will save you some back pain in the future . Anyways great video as always !!!

I love how your building turned out 👍 I think you have a pretty good, efficient layout so far. Good start with plenty of room for refinements. I think racking under the back lean-to will help with your attachments. Put your lesser used attachments on the top, and the more frequently used ones on the bottom, plus room in front for your most used attachments. When seasons change you can switch them around for the needs of the season.
