      Hey! The transmission was changed to the R151 transmission which is the gearbox which comes behind the 1KZ-TE to begin with. You’d need to have that gearbox to do this conversion. We thought we’d mentioned it in the video but maybe not 😅

    Glad you finally got it all sorted. From what I've read on the Mitsubishi 4m40 injection pump swap, slotting the mounting holes on the injection pump is the way to go, did you need to with the 5L pump? I was going to ask if you'd put the R series box behind it. I'm in the middle of rebuilding one for my swap. How much body lift have you done, 2 inch? Are the heater hoses on the firewall from the 5L or the 1KZ?

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  2 роки тому +1

      Hey!
      Ok re the pump, no we didn’t with the 5L pump. You physically can’t as there isn’t enough room. The Mitsubishi one may be different but we’d be trying to work with the 2L pump if we were you. They should be similar to the 5L.
      Regarding lift, yep 2 inch body lift plus 2 inch suspension. There is heaps of clearance. The body lift is better because it gives you more room for Intercooler pipes with the bonnet.
      The 1KZ heater hoses were roughly exactly the same so they just matched up.
      Once you delete the egr pipes there is heaps of room to the firewall.
      Hope this helps! 🙌🏻

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      As in what is a boost compensator? If that is your question boost compensators are used in turbocharged engines to compensate the fuel injection quantity in accordance with the boost pressure. If it isn't could we just get a bit more context to your question and we'd be happy to answer in more detail!

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      Thanks mate, yeah the 1KZ is a much better engine. I can’t remember the exact figures, but I think it was 50-70nm higher than the 5L. Definitely get the pump built with 11 or 12mm plunger and high flow the OE turbo. If I had have done that I could have had a bit more power.

  • @rorypetch9358
    @rorypetch9358 Рік тому

    What did you have to do with the electrical of the 1kz going into the 5L, in terms of the plugs coming into the cab as they don’t all fit. Where the extras just left. Going through the conversion now and not seeing glow plugs ect on the dash when everything is hooked up apart from 4 of the 5 plugs from the 1kz. Cheers for the videos been super helpful 👍🏼

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      If you’re using the mechanical pump and using the 5L pump and your vehicle had the 5L engine, not the 5Le. You shouldn’t need to do much. The plugs on the fuel pump do the speedo and fuel cut solenoid. The starter is just a terminal, alternator was the same round plug on mine. Then just bolt the same amount of earths on and I used the oe oil pressure switch for an oil pressure sensor. You will need to isolate the glow plug wire from the vehicle and then extend it and bolt it on one of the glow plugs.
      Everything else on the 1KZ can be deleted, or just left un plugged. As long as it’s got fuel and glow it will run.

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah so our 5L was a dream… the one that broke down was due to an issue by the people that fitted the turbo. We decided to convert as we are towing 1.1 tonne of trailer around aus which in extreme heats the 5L would struggle and overheat whereas the 1KZ-TE seems to be coping a bit better. We still LOVE the 5L engine!

      Throttle cable and linkage are the two biggest ones you’ll need. You need to get that off a 5L or off the petrol engine models.
      You’ll need to run some hose for the engine vacuum. It comes off the engine down near the power steering pump on the 1KZ but that’s just hose so that isn’t too difficult. You’ll need to make adapters for the engine mounts.
      Depending on the radiator you’re using you’ll need a different lower radiator hose. In saying that I recommend going to the 1KZ or big alloy radiator. You might also need a different fan shroud. The fan is slightly off centre compared to the 5L so we had to have one made.
      There is more but we’ll need to think on the rest and get back to you haha!

      Yeah you need to move the transfer case mount back 50mm and they usually come with an electric 4wd shift motor so you need to wire that in or if you’ve got the normal chain driven transfer case that goes with the G series gearbox you can swap the input shaft from the electric transfer to the one you’ve got and it’s still mechanical.

      Depends which pump you want to use, if you’re using the 1KZ pump you’ll need the dash, the wiring loom and the pedal from the 1KZ. If you want to use the 5L pump then follow steps in these videos and you’ll need the throttle cable from the LN167. Hope that helps!

    HOW HAS BEEN THE PICK AND FUEL CONSUMPTION AFTER INSTALLATION OF THE MECHANICAL PUMP?

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      Fuel consumption is about the same as the 5L which is 17/18L per 100km which makes sense as it’s the same pump delivering a similar amount of fuel. It’s definitely not a mod to improve fuel consumption 😅
      What do you mean by the pick?

  • @Nico.Sterley
    @Nico.Sterley Рік тому

    How much power difference is their between the kzte and the 5l ?
    And the power difference before you turbocharged the 5l and after?

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      We actually had the car tuned only recently (first time getting it professionally tuned since the conversion). When we get the engines tuned we ask them to tune for max fuel efficiency and interestingly enough there wasn't much difference in horse power, but a massive difference in torque which has been so handy when towing a heavy trailer.
      Regarding the turbo charged 5L and not I'll have to check in with Shaneo when he is back from fishing all day haha!

  • @th3shadow277
    @th3shadow277 Рік тому

    Just out of curiosity, did you try moving the pump timing gear then offset the belt by a tooth to change the pump timing but keep the cam and crank in time? If it wasn’t tried do you think it could help?

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому +1

      Yeah we did try that but because it’s all geared it moved the cam and crank out of time then too 😅

    • @lifeina4wd

      Additional note from Shane: the pump and cam are geared together so when you move the pump it pulls the cam out of time.

  • @th3shadow277
    @th3shadow277 Рік тому

    Did you use the fuel lines from the 5L or the 1KZ when you swapped the pump? Looks like they are ported differently to the cylinders. The 5L has cylinder 3 at the top left and the 1KZTE has cylinder 4 at the top left. Just wonder if my timing is off by a cylinder and that’s why I can’t start it.

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      The fuel lines are from the 1KZ motor. You can only really get the pump side of them back to front. We'd have to have a look to really work out which is which now. Watch out for the fuel pump - it was trapped for us which we discuss in this video so we couldn't get it to the maximum of the range that we should have been able to. Once we got the pump to move as far as it could in the slots and got the full range it was fine. If you have Instagram DM us on there (same handle) and I'll send you Shane's number to give him a call if you want to chat further.

    • @lifeina4wd
      @lifeina4wd  Рік тому

      Thanks man!
      If you’re paying a mechanic to do it don’t do the conversion to the 1KZ - there’s just waaaay too many hours in it. If it’s just for a daily run around driving turboing the 5L will work a treat for you.
      To answer your question about power difference though, there’s probably 20-50hp difference without having it run on a dyno or anything.
      Make sure you get the pump built properly and a Intercooler for the 5L and if you’re going to pay someone to rebuild the 5L for you see if they can lower the compression ratio.
