Thanks for sharing your setup young folks - your Hilux vehicle is tastefully equiped, not boganised and well looked after in the gorgeous ‘Red’ with a common sense approach - I had a 2002 Turbo Manual but eventually upgraded to a 2010 SR Hilux Turbo Diesel Auto with electric mirrors, windows, steering wheel controls and ABS - because I’m a retired Avionics chappie I’ve been able to buy and fully equip a new liftoff canopy complete with internal skeleton for around $6000 using Redarc, Amptron lithium battery, Engel fridge, Kings 1500W inverter setup and designed my own aluminium drawers/pantry for local country town metal fabricators - wired everything myself and carpeted/insulated whole shell - the 100ah Lithium setup has been perfect for my solo touring needs with stage 3 to come with a 24Zero RFT/270 awning/enclosure - yes of course I could easily spend $20k or more on a canopy setup but I’d rather that go towards my property which appreciates in value while I’m away - you probably already know that some Redarc inverters are actually rebadged/repainted Cotek inverters made in Taiwan but are apparently quite Ok for less than the cost of the pure Redarc product - I use the Redarc-built BCDC controllers made in South Australia because of their quality build - my cheaper Kings sine wave 1500W inverter has been faultless and met my budget criteria - safe travels 🙏🏻
Hey, only just saw this video, but GU patrol tow mirrors fit n60s with little modifications, all the people in the LN167 group froth the ebay ones. Good luck and keep on trucking! Love the vids
Great tour of your Lux good to see the older ones getting good use, I am interested in how much your set up weighs with your GVM as I am on the same path. Cheers.
Hey Steven! We love our old rufflux... she definitely requires lots of TLC in her old age but Shaneo knows that car inside and out so we'd rather be doing stuff more often and know how to do it than all the fancy electronics in the modern cars haha! If you want to pop us a message in Instagram or Facebook we'd be happy to discuss GVMs further. @lifeina4wd on both platforms.
got one of these kzn165r myself with the same style roofrack emu x but my kickass shower didnt fit like yours nice to see the hiluxes on videos instead of brand new 200 series etc
Lovely Ep Guys and lovely Hilux and set up, Gee shes like a drop of fuel my old 80 series 1HZ N/a loaded towing my 5m tinny on a heavy duty trailer loaded I get around 17 to 18LPH. on my last trip from Cooroy QLD to Nhulunbuy and back around up to Weipa and home around 11,000ks thats what she averaged,
Yeah she does hey - our trailer is over 1 tonne with the boat full of crap, battery in boat and on trailer, fuel Jerry’s and the roof top tent though it does add a LOT of weight. Without towing she runs about 19LPH with all the crap we carry in the canopy plus 80L of water.
@@lifeina4wd Ok yes must be working harder or you drive it harder than I do, my 5m boat on the trailer is around 1300kg loaded and 80 is around 3100kg loaded, Gee our old 80 with 5 adults and our daughter 15, loaded with two fridges and gear and Batteries and roof rack with solar up top and around 3200kg we get round 14 to 15LPH not towing.
@@craigtomkinson2837 yeah we think the stuff on the roof messes with our aerodynamics too which chews through fuel. A 1HZ is a completely different engine to a 1KZ too hey. And trust me Shaneo is a nana when he drives so definitely not driving too hard haha! But yeah she’s a thirsty thirsty gal. Sounds like a mint set up for you though! Love the 80 series - good car.
Hi, I'm interested in how you find the 8L Brassmonkey fridge for room in there. I have a 1KZ165 Dual cab and am concerned about how restrictive it will be when changing gears. I even mocked up a box to simulate the sizes and cant convince myself it will be OK. What's your experience, is it a frustration or OK to live with the fridge there? Doing a Cape Trip next year and a second fridge would be handy.
Yeah we were having the same thoughts but got used to it so quickly. Now we actually can’t imagine it not belong there. The height is so much comfier to rest your arm on, so many options to charge from. Now we just shift up from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th underhanded whilst still resting our arm up on the console if that makes sense? 100% worth the sacrifice on space for us.
I found a gear shift ext for 70 series, I ordered a 75mm one. Should screw in and replace existing knob, assuming it's the same size in a Hilux of course. My Brass Monkey fridge is going well.
That’s a great question! We made our intro AGES ago and so tbh I’m not 100% sure what the intro is called anymore. It’s by Tigerblood Jewel though I know that.
G'day Guys 👋. You set works good for you want✔️✔️ l put some plugs for you two and pro-fab on different sites. Is that monkey is fridge and freezer?? And the booster airel is it for the UHF?? The Steel rims a win win 10 times better than aluminium 🤮. I get with my 80 series 13-14 mpl towing my off-road trailer on the cape trip 12000 ks from Melbourne. But l installed free-wheel Hubs save heaps on fuel. Pity yours drinks that much But a good 👍 setup 👌. Good how free you got the inside better than clutter. See you guys on the next episode ✔️✔️✔️. Stay safe😊
Hey hey! Thanks for the plugs 🙌🏻 Booster is for our Telstra phone reception and it works a great. Yeah you gotta go free wheel hubs on the landcruiser hey. Thanks for watching as always!
@@James-mb6jtit’s pretty much the same interior and body from memory and you won’t have to be mucking around with engine conversions. Definitely the better option.
I really wanted to make a sassy comment in response to this but honestly I did find this hilarious.🤣 Serious note though - bras are optional and didn’t even exist for thousands of years 😉 if you haven’t worn one and don’t realise how much comfier it is without one then you just don’t know 😂
Looking forward to the next episode already to see what you've been up to.
Thanks Phil!! Definitely a few fun episodes coming up 🙌🏻

Sounds like a mint set up, we love hearing about other peoples rigs so thanks for sharing hey! 🙌🏻
Quick question - do you have cruise control fitted to the Hilux? Do you remember which one you went for?
No cruise control fitted, not something we’ve ever felt we needed!
A cargo barrier with access hatch in the middle might be useful for extra in-cab storage
Don’t really want to pile more stuff on top of other stuff in the back - important to have everything accessible for us 🙌🏻

Legend 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Another wicked ep! Thanks legends! Whats the rig weight minus trailer? When full of fuel and water etc?
We’ve only ever weighed it when water on empty to be honest which was just over 3t
Nice rig mate. I bought a 98 2.7L petrol back in October. Stock as rock, absolutely love it. What upgrades do you think are an absolute must to do?
Nice buy! Upgrades wise, how long is a piece of string? Haha! What are you planning on doing with it?
Brilliant and inspiring
Thanks heaps, we appreciate the support!

It’s the last thing that was missing from our set up
Surf mirrors will fit where you want
I don’t think they go out far enough for towing though!

265/75/16
What’s the dimensions for the canopy?
Sorry for the slow reply! Honestly not 100% sure anymore but we’ll try find out.

The roof rack rails are from ARB too.
