@@BackGardenBonsai hopefully. I actually have some Ficus Microcarpa on hold that I was going to style individually. Now I am thinking trunk fusion and massive bonsai 🥸
That’s actually a good looking fibrous root system for a ficus. Those roots do grow like crazy. I like the fusion progress, it’s looking great. The long term challenge is developing aerial roots in your location. Good luck. I’m looking forward to watching this develop into the future. Thanks, keep growing
Daggum! This tree is responding great to you, brother! Fantastic job with it! And wow did those aerial roots show up this year. I think those roots hide the fusion really well. You changed your tunes and sped your pace up a bit for 2022, eh? I’m digging it.
Cheers bro? did i change it up? hahah i didnt notice. i do have like zero concentration and patience at the minute, its clearly coming through in the editing then hahah
Cheers Dave i think it will be interesting to see what happens when i repot. I think some of them will stay for sure. They look crazy, in a good way. Happy new year!!
I started making bonsai last year because of Covid… my balcony in London is crowded of small plants and I hope soon to start working on them. Thanks for your videos: very informative and it’s a pleasure to see how your green babies are growing! Keep up the great work!
@@BackGardenBonsai I think so (even though we’ll have to move out soon)! I’m pondering the idea of making some videos too, but I have little experience with bonsai and absolutely no experience in video making! 🤔
Happy 2022 - great to see you! That Ficus looks like its on a mission - radical growth and changes in just one year. Lots of fibrous roots to go with awesome fusion. Seriously can't wait to watch this one develop. Thanks for sharing!!
Wow, I’m not sure if it’s all those aerial roots or if it’s all the leaves, but by the end it really doesn’t read as a fusion anymore. Happy new year bro!
Very strong grower this one. It's pretty obvious how much it likes being in the tent.🙂 The lower branches don't seem to get enough light though. Do you have the possibility to keep it outside during the warm months? Maybe it could get some more light lower in the canopy. Oh, I almost forgot: Happy new year!
Cheers bro, happy new year. i would put it outside, but i know i can push it way harder inside, so for now anyway it will remain inside. Maybe in a few years i will change it up :)
@@BackGardenBonsai You must share a photo of your trees in the tent. Now I'm even mor curious of how you do it. Maybe the people at Mars Hydro read this and send you an update for the grow setup.
Happy New Year Ian! I already loved this tree after the previous video, but now.....totally envious of the progress. And what on earth did you do between Oct and Nov for it to have shat out all those aerial roots (excuse language but entirely appropriate me thinks!!) 😁
Hi..is the Ficus benjamina a kind of strangler fig..I don't know why but im so fascinated with those roots dangling and crawling on a tree..I'm planning to plant it beside my old acasia tree.
i'm not sure if it a strangler, but based on the roots i wouldn't be surprised if it was! i guess you cant it beside your other tree and if starts getting to crazy then prune the roots
yeah the pot has holes. drainage is very important. I just cut some holes and addes some mesh over it to keep the soil in. as for the soild and watering, read these two things, you will get a lot more information than i can write here - www.backgardenbonsai.com/a-general-guide-to-bonsai-soil/ and www.backgardenbonsai.com/a-general-guide-to-bonsai-soil/
@@BackGardenBonsai thanks so much for your reply. I saw the holes in the pot in the next video. I love your videos, as they show myself and others of the process on a larger time scale rather than a long video of 'cuts made'
Hi A question from a beginer : What is the aim for cuting the roots frequently? Why don't we leave it in a big pot (to get bigger faster) and prun it frequently?
well you can do things a number of ways. you could let it grow in a bigger pot and let it get big first. I just havent got the space for that... but really will always end up cutting them often. it stops them getting too long/out of control and also helps them ramify so you end up with lots of small tiny feeder roots, not just two or three roots. then this way you can keep them in a small pot and keep them happy. so its half for health, half for aesthetics
@@BackGardenBonsai thank you a lot! Can you please give me your whats'app or your instagram so I can show you my youngs ficus and other varity of plants that I bought recently and I need your help to guid me if you don't mind. Thank you in advance.

Incredible fusion! I actually put out a video fusing ficus Benjamina recently and here I thought mine worked well. This is very inspirational! Thanks

The development of that ficus is incredible. Love it. Could I start pruning mine now?
What compost mix did you use?
Love your videos.
cheers. its just mostly molar clay with perlite and compost
as for pruning your. totally depends what your plan is and how healthy it is.

The structure is so good it’s a pity it’s not deciduous.
