Grew up listening to you from a young age. A fixture on Radio 1 and Radio 2. Thanks to you and your team for the great entertainment. No life that brings joy and laughter is ever wasted. Rest in peace pal.
Incredibly sad news. Steve always seemed like the nicest guy.
What did he die from?

Cannot believe it !!! I am 69 yr old woman who has listened to steves radio shows for years and years, will miss him dearly this sunday morning as I prepare lunch 😢😢😢❤❤❤
God bless Steve , rest easy
Its the first sunday, listening to Lisa who’s doing Steves show, I keep expecting Steve’s voice to come in,😪, will miss his warm cheery voice always, so sad
R.I.P Steve.
Gone and sadly we will never see his like again.❤
1980s,driving round London in the firms van,Steve Wright and his cast of characters on the radio, proper laugh. RIP mate.
Yep Mr angry was brilliant great guy will be missed ❤
Yer we never missed did we .."I'm so angry...I'm gonna slam the phone down.."
Great show, when he done “”I’ll be back, Arnee and the terminators Micky take song was a cracker.👍🏻
I'm gutted. Spent so many hours with Steve during my time on the road as a delivery driver, and felt like we both worked together and were friends. Testament to his greatness as a radio presenter and a true great of the industry. I'll miss him dearly
you dident know him and if you did both meet there woyld began awkward silence r.i p smashy or nicely or whoever you were meant to be
@anthonymitchell8893 that's my point, I didn't know him and we weren't friends, but his talent as a radio presenter made each listener feel as though they were. Not many can match that

Such sad news. This guy made it look easy. One in a million and a true gentleman. Best wishes from Scotland.
Rest In Peace, Steve Wright.
A genuine maverick whose voice illuminated the sound waves. He could do banter, serious notices as well as more empathetic interviews.
❤🎉❤
he was the face of normality and the establishment maverick ? u would say Kenny Everett back in the seventies and early eighties was classed as a maverick
@anthonymitchell8893 agree with you on Kenny. With Steve, he was more mould-breaking in the early days, then developed more of a steady show routine in his latter half. Jeremy vine even referenced this, which is what gave Steve such scope for his daily show, for so long.
I used to love his radio characters in the early days especially Mr Angry from Purley. RIP Steve.
Also used to love the regular skits with Mick Jagger, David Bowie (both Phil Cornwell) and of course Arnie and his Uzi 9mm.
Loved his possie specially Gervaise the hairdresser. I remember when he was on Luxembourg he was winding up another DJ pretending he had a pet chimp just brilliant 🌟🌟
Your comment makes me so angry....I could throw the phone down...!!! 😉🙏😄
Absolute legend!
RIP Steve Wright. grew up listing to him in the afternoon.
By his own admission he had a great face for radio
He was the best - brought fun and joy into the lives of millions - sadly missed.
He was THE DJ in the 1980's. He brought a warmth and fun which just oozed out of the radio. After he left Radio 1 I didn't hear anything about him until about 4 years ago when my wife ( who listened to Chris Evans) said that Steve Wright was on Radio 2. I listened to him all over again for a year or two whenever I was in the car between appointments. He still had it and a UK legend has gone. Thank you so much for the fun you brought us Steve, RIP. ❤
Whenever I listened to Steve he always chose really good songs, and was able to cheer you up with his between record banter. RIP Steve and Thanks for all the music.
My heart is broken .. loved listening to Steve on my way home… it’s a voice that will be missed by millions.. RIP Steve xxx
You dutch?

I am devastated. Big loss to radio 2
The guy is going to be sorely missed. RIP Wrighty.
A good man and professional to the end....unlike his employer
One of the true great DJs and brilliant entertainer . So sad because I'm exactly the same age and can't believe that he has been taken from us at a relatively young age. R.I.P STEVE. No one will ever replace you .
RIP, used to love listening to him growing up…😢
Can't believe this guy has gone...R.I.P Steve Wright...YOU will be sorely missed.
In 1983 the music and pop singers were out of this world. I was on a Maggie Thatcher yts scheme with a big group of guys, we listen to the radio every day from 8am to 5pm. And we all couldn't wait until 2pm for the Steve Wright show. Great music, and boy how he made us all laugh , and we would turn the volume up to maximum. Happy times, we all loved the Mick jagger crew... God bless you Steve.
Wow, RIP big man.
Thank you Steve Wright for many years of great radio shows... 😘
Oh man not another legend gone , just sad .
One of the best, loved listening to him❤
Steve's show was how I first heard about 9/11 when I was at work . He was so professional and handled it perfectly . Thank you for making my school bus even more fun in the eighties . You are so missed xx
Yeah - I heard that breaking news on his show too - I think initially it reported a ‘small plane’ had hit one of the towers…..
Grew up watching steve on too of the pops.he was always my favourite presenter.
Compleate Shock! He was only on the radio a few days ago! I’ll miss him terribly! RIP Steve! God bless mate ❤❤❤❤
My teenage years were built around Steve Wright In The Afternoon. His radio show was hilarious from start to finish with some memorable characters thrown in along the way. Mr Angry, Arnie & The Terminators to name but a few.
He was the voice of Radio 1, and the day they got rid of him was the day that station died. I never listened to Radio 2 until Steve started his show on there, and although toned down, it was still the best afternoon show around.
RIP Steve, and a huge thank you for making radio popular
How dreadfully sad. RIP Steve, what a remarkable career. Legend lost.
Another icon of my youth ,a pleasure to listen to, rest in peace 🙏.
Steve Wright in the Afternoon on Radio 1 - such memories! RIP you legend, and thank you. X
Absolutely heartbroken. He was the template of my life . Its almost 40 years of looking forward to hearing him every day. He was the titan of radio , 69 years old so young. I'll never forget you Steve RIp 😢
I’m 65 and after listening to Steve for decades I feel numb today, I just can’t believe it. RIP king of radio 😢
Who remembers Steve 'tea at three ' on his afternoon show and the "angry man, I'm going to slam the phone down" Very sad to hear that news today.
Mr Angry from Purley....
@@_Ben4810 yer Ben that's right ....can't remember who the others were! Wasent there a slippery lady character. Remember listening to him in my mark 3 Cortina with a brand new Amstrad system (actually worked) circa...82ish?
I'm 27 and listened to him since I was at high school. Gutted. Serious jockin' on Friday's always cheered me up after a tough work week.

I was only listening to him on the radio on sunday morning 11th Feb,,Radio 2 won't be the same with out him,,rest in peace 🙏🙏🙏
So loyal to the BBC despite their bad treatment of him. I wonder if he knew how much he was loved by millions. Love you forever Steve. There will never be another like you
Rest in peace Steve Wright, as I remeber him being on Top of the Pops in the early 1980s.
Brilliant DJ shafted by the BBC. He was mad as a hatter with his afternoon show on Radio 1 in the 80's, a crazy mix of characters. R.I.P legend.
RIP Steve you were the best entertainment DJ ever. ❤
Really sad was a brilliant broadcaster enjoyed his shows very much 😢
Steve and John Peal..legends. I went to America to work in 84 and my biggest regret was not being to hear SR in the afternoon. No internet then, and the BBC was the BBC then. Happy days
Spent my life listening to Steve, such sad news. 😔 it’s another lost legend….
Thankyou Steve for over 40 happy years of non-stop fun, music and banter, will dearly miss your voice and the shows from the very first one I heard on Radio 1 to the final Sunday. RIP our dear friend.

Still can't believe that Steve has left us. He has always been there.

Steve Wright In The Afternoon Show, Radio 1, the 1980's...Just the greatest radio EVER...& all the beloved characters, Damien The Radio 1 Social Worker, Dave Double Decks, Jervais The Hairdresser, Mr. Angry From Purley, Mr Mad, David Bowie, Mick & Keef, Billy & Dave, Dr. Fish Filleter, The Professor, & everyone's favourite Sid The Manager ('Allo Boy..!).
It was amazing radio, on the school bus trundling thru' the countryside, then at college crossing the city on a bus, then at work on a portable radio, then to listening whilst driving in the company car. So many of us grew up with Wrighty Boy, he really was a part of our lives & will be greatly missed....'Allo...?!? 💔
One of the best. You will be Missed for sure.
Gone but will always be remembered by a lot of people, that have grown up listening to Steve
R.I.P Steve
Sad day, I first heard him 1982 when I was stationed at raf bentwaters 😢
He once admitted in the 80's that whenever he had a holiday due, he would go to New York & sit in his hotel room all day taping the various local radio networks & shows for his own reference & later inspiration....👍
I loved steve Wright when he was on radio 1in the afternoon with sid and when he done david Bowie and mick jagger he was a brilliant radio presenter he will be sadly missed RIP steve Wright ❤

What an absolute legend Steve was. Unique and brilliant. Listening to his show was a total joy. Radio in the UK will just not be the same without him. His dedication to his craft was an example to anyone working in broadcasting. The amount of love that has been shown towards him clearly shows how highly regarded he was - by both colleagues and listeners alike. Rest easy Steve, you were irreplaceable.
One trick pony, thought he had a job for life

Lovely tribute ❤ RIP Steve Wright, you saw me through many years of fun in my shop ❤
He was having a lot of random days off prior to his departure from his Afternoon show, I remember chatting to colleagues at work wondering if he was ill...
Regardless of the cause of death he will be sadly missed by me and many, many others.
RIP Steve
This is such a shock..Rest easy my friend..🙏😞☮️🇬🇧
Listened to Steve on R1 since I was at school. The Mick and Keith sketches used to make us really laugh and our Mick/Keith impressions made our friends laugh and annoyed the teachers! We religiously taped every episode (to perfect our impressions of course!). Later as an adult I listened to my old friend Steve on R2 - it was just a warm and nice experience. Its strange to say goodbye to someone who you've never met but who's voice is as indelibly printed in your mind as a close family member. Rest in peace Steve x
I can recall back in the eighties, driving back from site on Fridays with Steve Wright blasting from the car radio... looking forward to a weekend hitting the pubs.
If you are lucky enough to be brought up in the 70s 80s you listen to the Radio. One of them Radio persons who was the voice of Radio was Steve Wright. Thank you. God bless.
I was a teenager when I replied to a question. My reply was Give Peace a chance. It was groung breaking and moving to hear him say - (One United Earth).
I always listening his Program "Steve Wright Sunday Love Song" on BBC Radio 2 from 10 years ago until last valentine. I was found out that he had passed away after I listened to his program until I'm just found out that the host of program has been replaced.
Rest in Peace Steve Wright, thanks for your Sound Accompany me every Sunday afternoon (GMT+8). Deep Condolences, greetings from your Fans in Makassar.
