Today I’m showing you how to make our families, chicken and dumpling recipe, which is well over 200 years old. Some of my family like to do different things with the recipe but there’s always one person in the family who’s the flame keeper of the original recipe. This is my mama’s favorite dinner, and if I serve it with blackberry cobbler, she’s very happy. Now we do our dumplings different than some families we add egg yolks to dumpling dough and roll them out to be cut in strips. How we do our dumplings was first in a Virginian cookbook from 1829. There’s always gonna be family differences some people like the drop wet biscuit into the bubbling Chicken and Dumpling broth but we have always used egg yolks, rolled out the dough and cut them into strips.
