- Picked up this very inexpensive Jackson the other day and was very impressed. Played much better than anything else in and above it's price range.

I just got this for Christmas and holy hell it is kick ass. I've been in the market for a seven string to learn songs from bands that use seven strings and I couldn't be happier with it.

The extra space between the fret are because of the 26.5 inch scale, it’s a short baritone scale
Picked this up today. Gloss black with beautiful sounding humbuckers. Best purchase I've made in a while.

Same reaction when I played the same Jackson. Now 6 strings seem so foreign to me. I couldn't put her down.
Mine's in the mail right now (ordered yesterday.) Great review. Makes me feel better about my spur-of-the-moment purchase (it was only $160... couldn't pass it up.)

got one today at a pawn shop for $80, looks like new. My fender stagemaster 7 plays a little better, but I still love it. it's a keeper

waiting for delivery of the gloss black (2015) version of this one. The store scuffed up the top so i got it for $129. lol

I agree I bought one and I'm also really impressed! Very playable!! The pickups don't suck!! I'm not sure I would even change them! Maybe I may get some locking tuners...other than that ...it's sweet!
i got the gloss one with the maple neck. had some issues. had to file the frets and hammer them in better. but a great guitar now
Erick Mazur I had fret sprout but no uneven frets. i have had to resolder the output jack already though.
I had similar issues with mine. Fret ends sticking out of the fretboard. Filed them down and it's right where I want it

Tried to play one at guitar center but the settup was so bad that it was unplayable. The strings sat right on the frets at standard tuning lol. I might have liked it but ended up buying a used js22 6 string instead because I just like jacksons

Couldn't agree with you more. It's a very comfortable and light weight. Lately I've been playing it more than my Ibanez jbm27. Those are some killer riffs you got there man. Nice 👍🏼

I'm a total ESP fanboy (Have an MII and an MIII custom along with a Jem LNG) and felt like getting my first 7 string. Haha yeah I know, I'm a little late to the party. I was going to pick up the LTD due to brand loyalty (it's kind of an ESP) but the Jackson is just way more playable. I was still on the fence, but I think your video has helped me make up my mind. Thanks for the candid and honest review!

@@assertedpaladin8715 Damn, that's harsh bro. I just picked mine up for £199 new on Sunday. I've now packed my other guitars away for winter (I'm in Scotland). Keep chasing one of these, for the price they're great and super playable. The fit and finish are a wee bit bleh, but it's so much fun I don't care. I'm concidering buying this baby. My first electric guitar which I got last christmas (2017) JACKSON JS 11 DINKY is a killer. Really good feel to it, I fucking love that guitar. But I want to start learning 7 string as well, so this is my top choice right now.
my son came home with one of these today, 179 at sam ash. the frt ends were raggedy, but i ran a skuffer Xfine over the burs and its like a PRS.

Hoping to get the satin black JS Series Dinky Arch Top JS22-7 DKA HT, with Amaranth Fingerboard tomorrow, as the reviews have been stellar for 2019, and only the Schecter Hellraiser seems to beat it for some. Can't wait to try the action myself. Been playing an old Pan SG that's falling apart on me, and the body just doesn't fit a female player (at least a busty one). Even the strap post/peg jams straight into my chest. The St. Vincent from Ernie Ball at $3K (CDN) is out of my current price range (even if it was designed for women by a woman), it only has the standard number of frets, and it's a 6-string. None of which are selling it for me. This Jackson seems amazing, let alone for the price. Now I just hope the guitar fits me okay (the struggle is real - nothing is made for women's bodies). I'm looking forward to wider spacing, too. I think they've improved the neck design for playability from the older models of this Dinky, but I'm not sure. Apparently at the high end it flattens out a bit for better access.
Got one 2 days ago, Cased up my other guitars for Winter lol. It feels like a toy but does everything it's supposed to well. Easy to play having moved up from Dropped 6 tunings for 7 newbs like me. Jackson are gonna upset a few rivals with this model.

a lot of good lower priced 7's right now. LTD sc-207 , Dean 750x and this one are all great for the $$. I'm pretty sure I'll go with the LTD
ESP's LTD SC-207 is pretty bad. The pickups are straight garbage. I mean absolute shit. No high end whatsoever. This Jackson costs half as much and sounds four times better.
How wear-resistant is the satin black finish on this one? It clearly looks classy AF until the first glossy spots appear :|
Just ordered this for 160 on sale waiting on it to come. This will be my second try trying to get into 7 strings maybe the longer scale will make it not sound so loose this time. This will be my Frankenstein guitar. I will use this to learn how to replace pickups. Would it handle 62 gauge on the b string or would I need to sand the nut slot?
This guitar blew away all expectations. I really like the pickups too, I am used to the Seymour Duncan BlackWinter 6 -bridge pickup in drop A. I was so excited about this two hundred dollar project guitar that I brought my mom to Guitar Center after lunch, next door just to hear it on Mother's Day.

Man I got one of these about 6 weeks ago and idk if I just got a lemon or what but mine is hell to keep in tune even with set up. My bridge pickup does sound pretty good but neck pickup is a lot louder. The tone knob never did anything. I installed a new A500K pot and it worked but only for about an hour lol now does nothing. the connections are still all soldered good so its got me like WTF lol.

Hey, I like your playing, just some advice as a producer, since you are demoing the guitar sound, I think having the guitars take dominance in your mix would've demonstrated its articulation better. Some parts were very clear, but it felt like it drowned in the bass kick sometimes. Otherwise, great video!

I have since upgraded to actual studio monitors and feel like my mixes have improved. I recommend the great metal tone for free video

I had the 32 and I m still sorry today I sold it...I m going to buy this one , and maybe change the bridge pickup. Jacks are the best budget guitars ,followed only by Dean....the rest is crap at this price!!! Rock !!!

Interesting man I tried one of these in my local store last week it was marked down from a grand to $750 AUD and I thought it was a POS. Chinese build quality was poor made the jack socket was flopping around like a %^& in a sock. The tone sounded like it had $2 pickups. Yours sounds a heck of a lot better.
Buying one used today for 80 bucks...... What a fucking steal. Killer playing btw!
I have one got it for seventy bucks. I can probably cut cheese with the frets. Also playing particles from the guitar seem to fall off it which gives me a good laugh. Still it makes a good sound like the reviewer has demonstrated.

Cool! What's the signal chain? YOu really made those stock pups sound great though! I changed the bridge pup for a Lundgren M7. Very happy with that choice.
If I recall correctly, the signal chain was the guitar was going into the axe fx running a amp match I made of a Mesa boogie mark 5: 25.

Help!! I find the neck is heavier than the body and uncomfortable to hold, what should i do?
Zanky Watanabe that's pretty odd. I haven't had that problem. I would say try glueing some small weights in the control cavity to see if you can balance it out. Only downside is you are adding weight to the guitar. I've never actually done this, but I don't think it would cause any issues as long as they are secured well and you don't glue them directly to any components. Never tried this but it makes sense in my mind haha. Hope you can solve this issue!!!!

i just got this same one but its having some fret buzz issues. any tips to fix it? it has the factory 9 gauge strings
Cythix I would say adjust the trussrod in the neck just slightly to see if that fixes it. Shouldn't take much at all. This is common on any guitar. I even have to adjust my Music Man whenever the weather changes.

I got a question: I just bought that same guitar (JS22-7) and I don't know if is just my guitar or what, but it feels like the factory setup is wrong or something. Can you please tell me what's the action setup on your guitar and the right height for both pickups? Or at least what you recomend.

First of all, I'm a new subscriber, and I think your playing is awesome! I have two questions for you about this guitar. I've been looking at reviews for it and have found a lot of complaints about fret buzz. I have also seen about the same amount of reviews saying it's not an issue. Did you experience any? Is this what you were talking about concerning the low frets? Also, have you had a chance to compare it to the ltd M-17?

I have had zero fret buzz issues. fret buzz is however pretty common on ALL guitars, so I'm sure it will eventually pop up. a quick set up can take care of this no problem so I wouldnt judge too many guitars based on reviews that talk about fret buzz. its usually easy to fix.
as far as the lower frets comment what i meant was, I am used to playing 6 strings and the space between the frets is much smaller due to the shorter scale length. It just took some getting used with the bigger fret spacing.
This guitar is a very nice 200 dollar guitar. Its actually pretty light for its size. It feels solid and plays very well.
i actually did put it up against the LTD when I was playing all of the 7 strings at sam ash. I really prefered the body style of the jackson much better. it just fit me better. I also did not like the gloss black on the LTD and much preferred the matte black of the jackson. the Jackson pickups were much better in my opinion too. LTD sounded very muddy to me.
Gearing Up the stock pickups are pretty good and not bad i use heavy strings 12to60 gauges i get some buzz string on the 6th

Is that a JP70 on the wall? if so do you prefer the JS22-7 over the JP70? just in the market for my 1st 7 string and wondering if its worth it to go with the JP70 or get the JS22-7 and use some of the money saved to upgrade the pick ups at a later date. Thanks!
Dustin B The JP on the wall is the JP6. I think you could spend a lot less money and get plenty of guitar. Look at Legator guitars or Daimond guitars.

Jackson J22-7 for 150$ or Scheckter Demon-7 for 350$? (is there a huge difference in action/playability between those two? just to check if the 200$ difference is worth it)
demon has better pickups, but the jackson leaves room for buy pickups of you choice. The demon also looks pretty lol
I ended up buying the Dean MAB7x for 400$. Shorter scale then Schecter's and with Flyod Rose.
It will arrive in 2 days. I hope I did the right choice!

Can anyone point me to an affordable seven string with a trem?
Fender Stage master 7, Floyd rose. I think they are about $250 or so. had mine for 15 years. I love it. But the pickups are not as good as the Jackson.

Gearing Up I Own that guitar, i think it is a very good guitar, it sounds great, the stock pickups are really good. The factory settings for the action is bad but with a little work it plays fine. The intro you did blew me away with that groove and clean sounds! Good review overall!

What kind of distortion would you recommend for this guitar? I just purchased this same model. Waiting on it to come in the mail. I usually use my orange amp distortion or a ehx big muff
I would stick with your amps distortion and put an overdrive in front of it.
@@GearingUpShow I was always told not to mix them because they run on different frequencies. The more I talk to other guitarists though they like blending distortions. I always wanted to try the ibanez tube screamer
@@asleepon I don't know who's saying not to use them together but that's silliness lol. Set your tone the way you like it on your amp, then put the tube screamer in front of the amp. The trick is to turn the distortion all the way down on the pedal, but turn the volume all the way up. Sounds crazy but trust me.
