    Because the 7th String is another B String, it's a good extended range Guitar to learn on. The great thing about the Low B is that it makes it easier to transpose so you can match the ranges of other instruments & singers, especially on Church Gigs.

    Loathe- A sad cartoon, is a GREAT song for what you can do with a 7 string outside of metal but still retain some elements.

    Good info man. I just got a 7 string and I absolutely love it. Great thing is if you can play a 6 string you already know the notes of the low B. It really wasn’t too difficult for me. Hardest thing was getting use to the wider and longer fretboard

      My feelings exactly. The low B is a great natural extension to the 6 sting and any guitar player should take to it easily. All those cool sub 6 string bass lines you never had before. It's to die for.

    Because we know the B String on a Standard 6 String Guitar, the additional string on a 7 String is another B String making it a great extended range Guitar for kids to learn on. We know what the 2 E Strings are doing & the 2 B Strings are doing the same thing too. If you tune your G String down a half step to a Gb, the bottom 6 Strings are like a 6 String Baritone in B Standard plus a High E for soloing (similar to a 7 String Guitar in E Standard with a High A on top but down a perfect Fourth) this way it eliminates the need to put really Heavy Gauge Strings on one of your 6 String Guitars if you wanna cover songs by bands that tune to B Standard like Type-O-Negative.

    If your considering a 7-string guitar, I would recommend an agile interceptor. You can get them from Rondo music online and they are really good for the price

    I dropped my low string to an A. So far I've incorporated it into my 6-string by using 1-finger power-chords on the low 3 strings (AEA) and by extending my A-shape barre chords to include the 2 lowest strings (so instead of x24432 for a B-minor on 6-string or xx24432 on a 7, I go 2224432 and get a thicker chord).
    I've been playing a 7-string for 2 days! (And I'm not that good at 6 string yet, either). This is just what I found.

    I don't see the problem of switching to a 7 string. I had no problem switching from a 4 string bass to a 6 string.

    • @royalcat10
      @royalcat10 6 років тому +5

      The problem is more mentality than anything else. When some people hear the phrase "7 String Guitar" they instantly close their minds and think "That's only for primitive, percussive, playing on a single string that I am much too good for." completely ignoring that it is an *extended* range guitar and not a diminished range guitar, making that a completely stupid and ignorant way to think. Many others are simply intimidated by having more strings, which if you just go for it you quickly realize it really isn't that big of a jump.
      It's only a big deal if you make it one.

    • @773Spair
      @773Spair 6 років тому +1

      I think that mentality comes from seeing players who want to play lower, but can't find a 6-string with an appropriate scale length and pick-ups and buy a 7, 8, or sometimes 9 for the scale length and pick-ups, not caring for the higher strings. They don't think there are more than a couple people who actually use all of the strings at least somewhat equally in all the things they play.

    The thing about playing Extended range guitars that should be done more often is playing Spaghetti Western Baritone Guitar parts on them. Those were made famous by an artist that recently died named Ennio Morricone.

    I do not recommend a seven string guitar as a beginner guitar I would recommend except a string after you spend a little bit of time familiar rise yourself with a six string guitar but important note if you’re playing songs that are normally played on the six string guitar on the seven you need to muffle the seventh string because it could mess you up if you accidentally hit the seventh string but I have a seven string guitar I love it but I learn to play on a six

    You should have recommended the schecter sgr7 string. Ibanez is doing a terrific job at 7 strings except the prestige rgd. They make 7 string with 25.5 scale... you need at least a 26.5 scale. Schecter 7 string are all 26.5. This ibanez is not a good 7 string, it is just not. Sorry for saying that but this video is really misleading in this way.

    I started playing 7 string 26.5 scale length. Now for me it's difficult to play standard 24.5/25/25.5 scaled guitars with 6 strings. I feel them small. But I don't care. I still can play every songs on the planet. For me there's no difference at all apart from the thickness of the last string and low heavy sound.

  • @antonwilding9744
    @antonwilding9744 2 роки тому

    Dude way too complicated its pretty simple : the low B string just ads 4 extra notes (4 halfsteps ) on the 5th fret you are back at E . its the same transition like between the low E and A string there you are on A at the 5th fret on E :-). So when tuned to BEADGBE you can play it like a 6 string and enjoy the brootal deep powerchords at the 1st 4 frets or the brootal palm muted open low B string \m/ . Scales are easy as well same transition like between the high B and E string ...only difference on the high B and E you go up and on the low B and E you go down , but you gain more range with the 7th string . BEADGBE is the way to go , or if you like drop tuning just tune the low B string to A and enjoy :-D .

    • @FracturesInTheSky
      @FracturesInTheSky  5 років тому +2

      Hey, yeah, you can play whatever tuning you like on them. If I remember correctly the guitarist from Limp Bizkit uses it in drop D and just tunes the lowest string to the same pitch as the low E string

    what kind of strings do you use? i use 10 on my 6 string??

    • @773Spair
      @773Spair 6 років тому

      You may want to use 9.5s for a 7-string because of the longer scale length, but if you want to stick with 10s, I recommend a 49 for the "low E" (a.k.a. E2) string and a 64 for the "low B" (a.k.a. B1) string. The other 5 strings will most likely be the same as the 5 you're using. If you go down to 9.5s, your set may be {.0095, .012/.013*, .016, .024 wound, .034, .046, .06}. *because you can't find a .0125 string without custom ordering it, as far as I'm aware.

    Juat no dude. Youve been playing 7 5 years and missed the point. For all of you misled by this the great thing about 7s is all the easily useable alternate tunnings. I love deadgbe. Think about why its great... ben eller has an awesome 7 tuning. You can also tune eadgbe-whatever. Youre basically only using your 7 like a 6+bass. Learn some theory and your options are unlimites

    • @FracturesInTheSky
      @FracturesInTheSky  7 років тому +4

      Cd Reid hey, thanks for the comment. This video was for people looking to jump to 7 string and I thought I'd pass on some tips and tricks I have picked up. There's no hard and fast rule about learning how to use 7 strings, I have a decent knowledge about theory to know how to use it in my guitar playing, however for this video, being as this is how I approached learning extended range, I thought I'd leave it out as to not make the video too long. The tuning idea which you mentioned sounds interesting, I used the typical standard tuning for this as most people know what it sounds like and know how to play using it.

    • @keonejones7283

      Cd Reid stop complaining fucking elitist what if there are people who got a 7 string guitar for their first guitar and had no Idea what to do with it ? Or do you just like to think you are superior to everyone else? Nobody cares move on.

    • @royalcat10
      @royalcat10 6 років тому +1

      I think that is simultaneously the most elitist and ignorant thing I have ever heard. I don't even know where to begin...
      I guess I'll start here. First of all, Ben Eller did not come up with that tuning you're thinking of, BEAD F# BE, that's just B Standard with a high E. When the first mass produced 7 string was being introduced by Steve Vai in the late 80s, he originally had the idea to use the tuning EADGBEA, which is the same concept of Ben Eller's tuning, except in E Standard tuning, simply transposed up a fourth. Good Ol' Ben was still in diapers at this point, if that. And it's entirely possible that Steve Vai wasn't the first user of this tuning, as 7 strings were around for a LONG time.
      Secondly, I'm fairly certain you've watched a few videos online about theory and that's it. Let me guess, you played an E7(#9) chord once and now you think you're basically Paul Gilbert? You're not.
      Have you ever thought that, maybe, just MAYBE, an instrument can be used for more than one use? The way you're thinking of is great if you're playing solo, but if you're playing with multiple people then it just muddies things up. That's the reason you have multiple people, to get interesting and different chords that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do alone. 7 strings can be used for better soloing, for example, as they give you more notes in the same vertical range of your fingers. They have more than one use.
      If you ACTUALLY knew your theory, you would be creating all these obscure and interesting chords you *think* you know across an entire band to mix and match the different timbres of the instruments to make a really cool sound. But you don't because you're a big headed snob.
      *YOU* Mr. Cd Reid, are an ignorant, elitist ASSHOLE that I am ashamed to call you a part of the 7 string family, actually, more ashamed that you're in music at all.
