@max7971 they don't always need them. I'm in the uk and those jobs don't have high turnover. They almost never come up. And the pay is really good. Unemployment centres don't get you jobs. They tell you to get a job or you'll be punished.

Jobs in sanitation in NYC or Chicago pay insanely well for not even needing a high school diploma and people never quit them because the benefits and security are phenomenal.

If the writers were actually good at writing complexity in their characters they could've had moments with jerry feeling guilt about Rick turning himself in along with feeling empty without him going on crazy adventures. i feel the season 1 2 and 3 Jerry is more empathetic and less scared and selfish i absolutely hate how the newer writers botched my boys character development.

So what's the downside of the Federation? They are good rulers, give people jobs ideal for who and what they are, have a wide intergalactic trade network that supports a nearly perfect economy, and honestly seem pretty chill so long as you aren't a rebel. Even the annoying bureaucracy seems to be at an absolute minimum. Sure, you aren't really completely free, but it's not like you're any less free than under current Earth governments.
