    I also need a 9 feet rod for my closet. I was searching videos for how to make one myself, but this is a much better idea. You just saved me a ton of hassle, time and money. Thanks! :)

      Hey, That's great! ...but be careful because you'll have to cut the rod down to the right size. I remember I had to cut it several times to get it to the right size. I know in the video I don't show you how to cut the metal but I used a hacksaw and made my first cut a little bit too long but had to cut again. Use several supports because 9 ft is not the standard closet width. Good luck with your project... I really hope it turns out good.

    Fixing my son’s closet is on my list of things to do. I’ll definitely try it. Thanks so much!

    Yo! This was great! THANK YOU! My wife and I just bought a new home and we have those weak wire frame closet hooks and selves. We put 4 coats on it and it literally fell apart. I’m going to add this to my weekend DIY projects (along with painting my front porch and changing my front porch lights)

      Closets are a pain...I know. I'm trying to update all my closets also. Just make sure you use adequate support especially if you have a closet with 10 foot or greater span. Good luck friend.

    😮😮😮😮 that is so awesome! I need to put a rod in my closet which is probably about the same length of yours. maybe even more so I'll have to double check with the length.

    Do they always have a "step down" in size at the ends rather than a consistent diameter throughout? The ones at my local store appear to.

    Will it hold heavy coats? I had an aluminum rod. I need 9 feet as well.

      @@steveslearninglab5961 ..what type of supports did you use? I am a novice. Thanks

      @@chm97chm97 they are just closet rod brackets. I had to do some customization based on my particular closet dimensions. When you mount the supports try to screw them into the studs behind the sheetrock. You'll probably need a stud finder. But you could use sheetrock anchors if you can't find the studs. It's called a top rail for a chain link fence....but I know everything has gone up in price. Good luck with your project.

    What end piece did you use to have top rail placed in

    • @steveslearninglab5961
      @steveslearninglab5961  Рік тому +1

      It's called a closet rod flange set. Make sure you get metal and not plastic.

    What is your recommendation for cutting to length?

    • @steveslearninglab5961
      @steveslearninglab5961  Рік тому

      It depends really what kind of bracket your using.... but as a rule....measure from bracket to bracket and cut the rod slightly longer than what you think it should be then trim down. I think I used a power saw with a metal grinding blade initially, then used a hacksaw to trim. Not sure if you are using power tools but its fine to use a hacksaw. Be careful, cut ends on metal will have sharp edges. Let me know how it comes out. Good luck.

    I made a mistake buying the actual closet rod, I came across this video a few days late. 😥

    • @steveslearninglab5961
      @steveslearninglab5961  3 роки тому +1

      believe me I made the same mistake also,...buying an actual "closet rod" that does not support even half of the weight this fence railing supports. Good Luck to you!

      Well, because prices are so high now, you probably can't get that top rail for $10 anymore. Good luck to you.
